Well, now you've put time pressure on this (in the other thread). If only that were some kind of help . . .

Okay, here's my guess, based on the fact that the only license plate I can remember from any film is Goldfinger's AU 1. Could the "passengers" refer to Goldfinger's Slazenger 1 golf balls? That is, AU's 1's? And we know there were at least two because he lost one and played a second?

A particular licence plate would be an ideal clue for at least two "passengers" that rode in this vehicle.

I've got it! Bond and Mr. Solo, who were both in Goldfinger's car! B)

You are both so close....

Okay, I think I have it. Mr. B, if I'm right, you get half the credit.

The vehicle is the sedan Solo was crushed in. The clue is the license plate on Goldfinger's Rolls. Solo, (i.e., "1") was one passenger in the sedan. His gold (AU) was the other.

Howzat?

Thanks, trs! My derby is off to you (in a totally non-steel-rimmed way, of course)! You are the master of ingenious puzzles. I tend to rely on wordplay, but you actually make devilishly intricate connections that can be maddening...er, deliciously challenging to work out. Superb!

Enjoy your time away.

I'll post the next clue in a while....

Okay, here we go:

It was the perfect place for a taxi, but what Bond caught instead was a tank...sort of.

No, sorry. Actually, I was going to edit my clue, but you beat me to it. Here's the revised version:

It was the perfect place for a taxi, but what Bond caught instead was something a little more than a tank...sort of.

How about the BMW Z3 from GoldenEye? It had stingers (missiles) and never did anything but get driven around a bit by Bond and Wade.

This one's tough. I note that the genus for hornets is Vespa - is there a motor scooter somewhere in the films that I'm not remembering?

I cannot recall one offhand, and the answer is not a scooter.

To have you stumpted, Major, rare praise, indeed.

I assume it's nothing obvious like Little Nellie or the Acrostar, both of which are small and arguably insect-like aircraft (and Little Nellie also has "stingers").

How about the little AMC that Bond and the sheriff jumped the lack of a bridge in The Man with the Golden Gun?

Wow, if that's the answer, and I was fooled by the intricate wordplay to think it wasn't the obvious Hornet, then I believe I will jump a bridge.....as in off of.

None of the above. It was not the AMC Hornet Hatchback from GG, nor the aircraft mentioned.

Double 07, an excellent read into some really potential deviousness. Wish I had thought about it like that, although if I had, the puzzle would have been solved.

*sniff, sniff" I might be smelling the presence of a HINT pretty soon.

Excuse my jumping in with a guess, it looks like you two have been at it for quite some time.

I just leafed through a few of my 'about Bond' books and nothing jumped out at me, so I'm not much help!

OK, let the avalanche of guesses commence:

A vital part of the answer was commented on at least twice, but with wrong vehicles. If you can guess the part, and then deduce the film, you'll see why that mades sense.

Hmmm..would that be missiles, which I mentioned twice? If so, my first guess would be Zao's Jag in Die Another Day, which made an unintended jump into icy waters rather than across a bridge.

Wow. I am really at a loss. I just can't get he whole thing to fit together. From your last clue, it apparently involves something part of which is missing. (Can't be the sawed-off taxi in AVTAK because we did that already, and besides "hornet" doesn't fit.) And I'm wondering if "avalanche" a few posts back was also a clue. And/or maybe even the "sniffing" bit earlier. But I can't connect them with anything.

And I still don't know how to interpret "little hornet"--something that flies? Something with a "stinger"? Something that looks like a bug? Something with a small horn? Plus "never even jumped a bridge" is still wide open: is a bridge actually involved? The lack of one? Is there a film I'm forgetting where part of a bridge collapses or is missing, and some small vehicle is involved? (Or is "little" ironic?) Or a bridge didn't get jumped but something else did?

I did think of the BMW roadster in TWINE, which also had missiles, and it met its end on a collapsing pier, which has certain bridgelike aspects, but I didn't mention it because I don't think it's that either.

Is there a villain's lair somewhere I can blow up? That would be very satisfying right now....

Major, Major, Major. I think our prior puzzles are causing you to read way too much into everything that is being said. Avalanches, sniffs, etc are not hidden meanings.

OK, one last hint, at which point, you will brilliantly solve the puzzle and smack yourself for not seeing it sooner, or *GASP* concede the game, I will do a reveal and then place another puzzle.

ADDITIONAL CLUE: A true man would ride in this CAR!

Take it down, Major.

Oh--the car in LTK (no idea of the make or model) that held Sanchez's henchmen, including Truman-Lodge at one point, and from which a Stinger was fired at Pam's plane, and which eventually went off a (really, really high) cliff above her plane?

And there you have it. Correct on the car--a Masserati. One slight trivia correction, THAT car never went off a cliff, that was the henchmen in a pickup truck. If memory serves, the Sanchez car is still sitting on the side of the road.

Hornet was a clue for STINGERS, this car had the case in the trunk (boot). The bridge comment was simply to avoid a guess from Golden Gun.

Major, back to you. . .
