You're right, I did way overthink that. Plus it didn't help that I somehow had it in my head, not having watched LTK in some time, that the Stingers were fired from one of the larger vehicles, possibly even one of the trucks, which would keep "little hornet" from making any sense at all. So I was really getting in my own way!

Moving on:

This vehicle launched a satellite, but not into orbit.

Ok, Major, another stab---to the casual observer, this guess may seem wild, but the definition of the word "satellite" gives me good reason to guess:

Aston Martin DB5 from GF?

You mean because of the ejector seat? That's brilliant, and absolutely valid. I love it! I wish I'd thought of that!

But no....

Good guess. And you're getting close in one aspect of the clue.

EDIT: Maybe this is a good time to throw in a qualifier:

The "launch" was neither deliberate nor what one would call successful.

I'll bump this with a little more info.

This vehicle launched a "satellite," though it wasn't much of a launch: both the vehicle and the "satellite" went down rather than up.

It's a slow starter, but once you really open it up, it's quite an exciting hangout, especially if you like the high life.

Is it the AMC Matador Coupe from "The Man WIth THe Golden Gun"?
(The one that transforms into a plane)

Well, the clue you're quoting is an old one--the answer to that one was the Hercules cargo plane from TLD. But your answer doesn't solve the current clue either.

If I get this right, it's thanks to Jeff007 and to your updated clue?

Is it the "motorcycle" from GE Bond uses to go over the cliff, grab the plane, yadda yadda?

No, not that either. I'll unknot the deception a little further:

This vehicle didn't really launch its "Satellite." It basically plummeted along with him.

(There's one more addition that would make this still more penetrable, but we'll see if it's needed.)

Nope. Note that the "S" in "satellite" is now capitalized. That's a clue.

Is it the truck from Goldfinger that had the laser to break into Fort Knox?

Nope.

"Satellite" isn't so much a metaphor as a pun.

Is it the Hovercrafts from Die Another Day?

We have a winner!!

Specifically, the one hovercraft that "launched" (okay, not so much) Colonel Moon (hence the pun "satelllite") to his apprent demise.

Congratulations! Over to you!

This sounds like a right answer. Any response from the originator?
