I hadn't seen a Connery Bond for some time and I really wanted to watch one. While considering my options I remembered Claudine Auger's Domino, and that immediately settled it. I had to watch Thunderball.
Good choice. I haven't watched a Connery or a Brosnan Bond for some time, either. I need to rectify that soon.

Really appreciated a lot in this film, the plotting (not smooth but it's all there), Moore's more Fleming-like Bond performance, the locations, Lee's great Scaramanga, both leading ladies (Goodnight grows on me somehow), the action, Barry's cool score... just a shame the few bad bits stick out so much and it feels not as well put together as it could be. Here's a rare opinion: not 'til CR do we get a better Bond film.

Yes,it's a shame this film gets stuck with the reputation of being a bad Bond film. The Man With The Golden Gun

I don't know if I would say there wasn't a better Bond film until CR but I will say that after TMWTGG the series lost something intangible. I agree with your other points and its probably my favorite Moore film and has a place of nostalgia for me since it was the first Bond film I saw as a kid when my dad watched the usual Bond marathon on TNT.
Casino Royale
What can I say that anyone else had not already said. IMO its the best in the series and before I thought some of the action scenes were buffer and maybe they are but they are executed to perfection so it really does not even matter. Did I mention this was the first time I have seen it in HD and it was amazing!
Quantum of Solace
Another great entry in the Daniel Craig era but not as good as CR. However, despite that I thought for an action thriller inspired by 70's spy thrillers like The Day of the Jackal it turned out pretty good and what a great ending to it. Unlike most people, I really like the gunbarrel sequence and I would not mind seeing it at the front of Bond 23.
Die Another Day
I really did not have any expectations going into this one but I wanted to revisit it to see if it was as bad as I remembered. Fortunately, it was not bad as I first thought and there was a stretch at the beginning that was pretty good but when they move to Iceland it gets silly but I still kind of like it because it comes off as a weird self parody of Bond. I think this is one of the biggest problem with Die Another Day since it does not know what its trying to be, a serious action film or a self parody of the Bond series.

For me what was lost was Fleming's style of thriller with a few push/fantastical bits thrown in (granted TMWTGG stretched that but more in a generational way IMO than abandoning it outright), in favor of straight-up fantasy/quasi-spoofy adventures:The Man With The Golden Gun

The not-knowing-how-to-be is pretty much a safe read on Brosnan's Bond in general IMO, although I think he gets it right in TND for the most part.

Thoroughly enjoyed 2 films I haven't seen for years.
Amazing that the bigger the screen that I watch Moonraker on, the more I enjoy it. I'd love to see it on the big screen again.
Lovely locations and photography and you can see every penny they spent up there on the screen.

It was on TV on Friday night.
There was a short scene I hadn't seen before - just before Onatopp is killed by being squeezed between 2 tree branches, there was a 4 second moment when Natalya tried to wrestle her off Bond. Onatopp shouts "Wait your turn!" and appeared to head butt Natalya.
I had never seen that bit before.

It was originally cut from the UK version to qualify for a "12! certificate, and the cut may have carried over to other countries,

Thanks. It looks like it was restored on the Ultimate Edition.
