The fact that he can't act in any other respect and is as camp as Christmas wouldn't help his chances though!

John Barrowman is actually Scottish not American but can move between the two accents with perfect ease - so an English one wouldn't be too much of a stretch for him.
The fact that he can't act in any other respect and is as camp as Christmas wouldn't help his chances though!
Whoa, hang on there! Camp, Perhaps. But Barrowman's actually a bloody good actor. I've seen him many times in the theatre and he's always been fantastic. I once saw him in "Rope" (which I was reviewing) in Chichester and it was one of the finest performances I have ever seen.
But Henry Cavill is surely the front runner come the day Dan hangs up the shoulder holster? Cavill will be the right age, looks fantastic and has proved he's a good actor.

(Barrowman) cannot act to save his life. He is a West End Wendy.
I could not disagree more, Zorin. And it annoys me that actors who specıalıse in musical theatre are dismissed so airily. Musical theatre is the purest of all theatrical forms and it takes a very rare actor indeed to reach the top of that particular tree. Like light comedy - Cary Grant, Roger Moore, etc - it is dismissed by critics who don't know what they're talking about. Oh, and my information is that Eon have had him in... although, admittedly, one could possibly say that about every British actor (which he is) who can stand unaided and has his own teeth...

Henry Cavill is the frontrunner and always has been. I don't get or understand the completely inappropriate Goran Vis-whatever, Sam Worthington or Clive Owen hankerings. They would not be James Bond.

Hopefully many years to go before this is an issue
but whatever... so...
.....John Barrowman(he's Scottish but grew up in the US and now lives in Wales) is too camp and too old to play Bond. I don't have a problem with an American playing Bond. If he can do the accent, then what's the problem? Just get it right and no more Brosnan weirdness. There are plenty of great American actors who can do an authentic English accent.
But what's the point? There are numerous british actors oozing with talent and could pull off the Bond image, why outsource and get some yank to fake an accent? Lets keep Bond British please.

I wonder if anyone else has considered BRONSON star Tom Hardy, who would be a bit of an off-the-wall pick, but certainly has some acting chops and has currently got "rising star" buzz in the UK. He did a Beeb version of Wuthering Heights (following in the footsteps of a certain Mr. T.Dalton), and had a small part in Layer Cake as well, for trivia fans. Currently aged 31.
Not to disparage any one else's comments, but this is the first time I've read a "potential Bond" case put forward which I've found genuinely intriguing. I would certainly be behind such a choice.

Interesting.
He's a cracking good actor of the calibre, range and onscreen appeal of Daniel Craig and - career-wise - he's certainly at the same place that Craig was a decade ago. There are some issues why someone such as Eon would maybe have to not consider him, but yes - good call there. We will just pretend there is no such thing as STAR TREK - NEMESIS and that he was in that (!!?).
Incidentally - Tom Hardy's best performance to date was a superb one-off drama called STUART - A LIFE BACKWARDS. I would urge anyone to check that out. Hardy takes you to a dark and starkly honest place most actors only dream of.

Yep, I have considered him and think he'd be a great choice. He's a chameleon as an actor, can do anything, and he has a great voice. It's kind of low and sexy.I wonder if anyone else has considered BRONSON star Tom Hardy, who would be a bit of an off-the-wall pick, but certainly has some acting chops and has currently got "rising star" buzz in the UK. So, what should be the age of Craig´s replacement? The producers screwed the opinion to start out with a young Bond age about 28-31 with Casino Royale,so after Craig doing another two or three,he´s mid-to-end in his 40´s.If the next Bond is around 30,is this a reboot of the reboot then?
Connery was in his late 30s when a 29 year old Lazenby took over only to be replaced again by a 40 odd year old Connery again. Any potential actor to take over should be anywhere in his 30s.

tbh i think clive owen would have been a great replacement but he's 44 so i doubt it. He would have been my pick if daniel craig wasn't bond.
You know, prior to CR, I felt that way, too. Then, Craig does CR and QoS, and for me, totally becomes Bond.
Meanwhile, seeing several Clive Owen films (Shoot em Up, The International and Duplicity), I've lost interest in Clive as 007. He has the looks and can do the action--but the voice has me off the Clive Bandwagon.

I think Brosnan would be in a floppy enough shapy by then. Currently, he's not quite floppy enough...

Interview with Henry Cavill.
JJ: What was your biggest splurge since becoming an actor?
HC: I just bought a car, so that will be the biggest one. I got an Aston Martin DBS. It was one of those things that just ended up happening, like, “Right, okay, just treat yourself.”
Going in the right direction then.

I think I prefer DC's approach, he doesn't try to be he just is.
Perhaps. But you only have to watch The Tudors to know Cavill has "it" in spades. He's not the star of the show, but you don't look at anyone else when he's onscreen...

Yup

These whole replacement discussions to me sound a bit like - "The King is dead, Long live the King" Only this king has just started and is far from dead. So a "Long live the King we have" sounds better to my ears. Just my two...

Cavill will do all right but too polished and pretty 4 my taste...
But if the producers will try to make the next Bond different to DC, make it more Brosnan-like so it may do him favor.

But another actor I think could do the part is Nigel Harman, he's getting good reviwers at the moment for his part in the play he's doing in London with James McAvoy, so he is more then just an Eastenders actor. He could work, he has a Christian Bale-ness to him.

The Fass may not be interested but he's one of the only actors who could attempt to match DC's intensity in the role, forget Cavil he's more like Brosnan. Some of the other choices like Hardy are quite interesting but Fass is top of my list.

Thank God the casting team don't have the time to look round here for inspiration. Not that I've seen any yet...

No inspiration? Honestly, I don't think so. Some of the guys might actually be interesting. If perhaps not in the kind of series EON does produce, but still interesting. And I think Cavill would still be a pretty good Bond in any kind of production, particularly EON's.

Cavill would have been a great replacement to Brosnan. But I can't see him in the role now after the indelible mark that Craig has left on the franchise and the role. Really does anyone want to go back to the old stuff?
Frankly I am hoping for Christian Bale or Alex O'Laughlin. As both men can do a combination of suave and rough around the edges. But really I would prefer to have a wait and see approach to the actors who are available when DC steps down, not to mention the audiences general tastes and appetites.
Good lord... Batman playing 007... I wouldn't even bother watching them if Christian Bale gets the part, hes Bruce Wayne and John Conner... screw that for a joke. Alex O'Laughlin is a joke aswel, look at him.
Dont get me started with the jock strap Nigel Harman.... he looks like a orge crossed with a caravan.
Much rather Henry Cavill, its a no brainer.
