I'm not saying he's the best future choice for the role, but I think he's one of the guys, Eon Producers are keeping an eye on.

BEN BARNES

I'm sure that Connery was by far the best option for the role at that time!

More like the cheapest. This is Eon, remember.

Could be, but still nobody has matched him so far in my list!

At least five of them have matched him on mine.

Yes, Grant did have a dark edge, but not physically dangerous. I can't see him pulling off a brutal fight with Red Grant on the Orient Express.

I can. Cary Grant was a former acrobat. And you can tell by his body movement. I'm certain that he could have pulled off a brutal fight with Red Grant with ease . . . when he was younger. What am I saying? He managed to do fight scenes just fine in 1963 when he did CHARADE.

Actually, Grant was in better shape longer in his life than any of the Bonds. He was very fit well into his 60s and early 70s unless you count his eyesight which was very poor since his 30s without glasses. Grant in his 30s would have been a match for anyone.

Has anyone considered Mel Raido?

He's a relative newcomer, but delivered an excellent physical and dramatic performance in last year's 'Clubbed'. To some extent, he reminded me of Craig quite a bit.

He has an interesting look, but I have not seen him onscreen. I did see "9" this afternoon. Daniel Day Lewis would have been a great Bond during the Brosnan era. Today he would make a superb head of Quantum!

Eh, I don't know about that. He certainly looks a touch on the aged side in The Crucible, and that was only in the year between GoldenEye and TND! That aside, I do think he could have made a good Bond at some point. The early to mid eighties, or even mid to late eighties perhaps, but not so much the mid-90s. One aged Bond is quite enough.

Good point, however he would have been a very interesting Bond. I would love to see him as the head of Quantum.

Was he not offered the role of Alec Trevelyan?
