Which do you think is Connie's worst/ weakest Bond film? Can't be any from his first innings (Dr.No, FRWL, Golfinger, Thunderball). It would be either his second, third or fourth innings as Bond: YOLT, DAF, or NSNA. All three are pathetic excuses for Bond films & Connie is awful in all three.

I go for YOLT, the rotten apple of the 60's barrel. All style, no substance. Connie gives his worst performance as Bond. Apart from exotic Japanese locations and a bit of insight into Japanese culture, it has nothing.

The finale of YOLT is a great set-piece which sustains its action for a prolonged period of time successfully and takes place in one of the most imaginative sets of all time. As for "Connie" being awful in it, I recall one critic remaking that Connery is more interesting on auto-pilot than Moore is working full pelt. I don't agree, but you can see where he's coming from.

I think NSNA is his weakest. It has its moments but its poorly paced, garish and just kind of flat.

Indeed. Connery did not star in a Bond film I dislike either.

"Connie", well thats gonna have to stop...

DAF, most certainly. Not just because Connery himself is looking weightier, and acting far less naturally cool, but also because its a simply awful follow-up to OHMSS. I wanted a nice meaty revenge story, but instead we got a 'Carry On' film, culminating in Blofeld receiving a minor bashing in a suspended bumper car.

You do know that it's Connery, right? Just because you havent mentioned it in any of your posts.

And just for the record, his worst was You Only Live Twice, I actually rank Never Say Never Again above Dr. No and You Only Live Twice.

I think YOLT is my least favorite performance by Connery as Bond, but I think the movie on the whole is better than DAF. He seemed a bit bored in YOLT where he seemed to be having more fun in DAF and NSNA.

In my book, it's a damned sight more fun to watch than the dreary Thunderball.

I agree on the performance aspect in You Only Live Twice. Connery did seem rather bland in this movie compared to any of his other Bond outings. Still, the story & soundtrack are good so they sort of compensate for it.

DAF for me--in fact, the nadir of the whole series for me. Compared to it, AVTAK is a bloomin' masterpiece. Even so, I hope that 'Connie' doesn't catch. No sense completely demeaning his four superb outings as Bond.

Everything after Goldfinger is pretty much worthless as far as I'm concerned, but I do think DAF is exceptionally awful.

Well said, that should be MISTER Connery!

Anyway, his worst film IMO, is also one of my all time favourites: DAF.
Tomorrow I shall consider his worst film to be NSNA.

YOLT just has way too many classic elements in there. The cinematography, music, locale, sets, Tiger is one of the greatest allies, that 60s atmosphere, and it really did the 'big battle finale' the best of them all, i also like it over the dreary Thunderball.

So it comes down to DAF and NSNA. I pick DAF, even without the gunbarrel or classic theme, NSNA doesnt become such a parody like DAF does, and NSNA Conster actually looks better than his too much of a good living DAF self.

What if my choice happened to be one of Connery's first four films? Like Dr. No?

I must throw Thunderball to the lions...what a bore! Lop off 20 minutes or so of fat out of the first hour and it would be in better shape.

Me too although I can't really think of any of his bond films as that bad. None of the RM films are worthy of bond imho.

Never Say Never Again.

Hands down the worst Bond movie ever made. WHY Connery starred in it when he had Thunderball amazes me.

CBn needs to take a second look at NSNA and take the 1983 part off Connery's thread title. He had a graceful exit with Diamonds are Forever and even tough it wasn't a good film, at least that one has some good moments.

Never Say Never Again drags a bit, but I'm not that fond of Dr No. Sure it was the "Birth of A Screen icon" ™etc, but its not aged well, the music is a bit clunky, some of the acting is on the hammy side and it looks as cheap as it apparently was...

Never Say Never Again isn't a real Bond film. NO IT ISN'T NO IT ISN'T ISN'T  now that we've cleared that up, Diamonds Are Forever is his worst, if not one of the worst in the series. It's just a complete mess that is ridiculously camp for no reason at all. The title song is about a penis for Goodness sake  Connery is there for the money, period.
