Still, if this is but a first pass, then I am sure Leo and co will get it right by throwing this out and starting again.

Leonardo DiCaprio is already Howard Hughes!! He Can't Be Ian Fleming TOO!!!
That is why they need to think about these actors first, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, Sam Neill and Hugh Laurie. To see if they fit the role as Ian Fleming. If not, then Leonardo DiCaprio can step in for the role, and only then can we start to say so what he is already Howard Hughes!! He Can Still Be Ian Fleming TOO!!! Not before that and also not if those other actors have not been given try out and asked if they want to do the role at all.

Which means I can again ask, who will play Connery playing Bond - if the films tracks through to the filming of Dr No?
Matt Damon.......

As I understand it the picture is to take place mainly in World War II so probably no Connery.

Perhaps they'll include a shot of a young Scottish boy loading a truck and getting a tattoo saying "Mum and Dad" or "Scotland Forever" to make all those eager to see the film cream their pants.

Those Lonely Island guys certainly will do just that if they see it.
I read an early synopsis of the film, and yes it occurred mainly during WWII. But I hated it because it was all fiction, and a contrite attempt at making a Bond film based on Fleming's life. I understand some creative licence will need to be taken, but the film needn't be complete BS to work.

When he's written something that is a bit more artistically worthy than his previous output? Just a guess...(?)When will they make the Raymond Benson biopic?

Believe it or not, I could have taken a crack at it. Last year I had several meetings at Appian Way re another project. I was sent 'Fleming' at one point, and I could have come back with a take. But I wanted to stay focused on the other project and see it through. Ultimately that project got tangled up and stalled because of rights and whatnot. Oh well. So, when does Zencat get a crack at this?

I have a feeling that this pic is going to make McClory look like some sort of great visionary.
Its take will be interesting to say the least.
Anyway the first casting rumours we get is for McClory? Interesting....

Well the rumor was that DiCaprio was going to do Fleming himself possibly so there's that. I never really thought of him playing Fleming before, but honestly, I can see it.

So this film is going to go to the late 50s at least? Who's going to play Irving Allen? Ann Fleming?
Or Sean Connery!?

I could imagine Billy Zane as young Fleming. He has similar eyes and mouth, only the nose would need to be elongated.
I could see him in the part. He's a tremendously underrated actor that doesn't get the attention he deserves these days. At least he's a better choice than his Titanic co-star Dicaprio.
If they could afford doing the de-age techniques of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on Geoffrey Rush, I say give him the role.

But I think DiCapro has his sights on the lead, i don't actually have a probelm with it though, he's a good actor.

That is not to say there is not an interesting story somewhere in there, but a court case about two or three warring authors involved in the mid-1960's world of Bond is a very nuanced parameter. And one that a very skilled writer would have to sift through. And I'm not sure Kevin McClory would come out all that well in something like this.
I can't help thinking these titbits of production "updates" are - ironically - all a bit Kevin McClory (i.e. "If I announce it, they - and the financiers - will come").
Tell me I'm wrong by all means.
