QOS is back to MGM, it's not the same studio anymore.

Quantum of Solace is still Sony. MGM doesn't get Bond back until 2010 for Bond 23.

It was pretty obvious that there was going to be another release of the movie on DVD so no one should be shocked by it. They almost have to release a three disc set regardless of whether or not they fill the discs with content. The average consumer looks at quantity as value. Three discs is more than two discs so it must be better. Besides, they already put out a two disc set so how would another two disc set look? On the plus side, I'm glad to see this will be out in June vs November.

Actually, Quantum of Solace is just at Sony as a theatrical release, any Home Video, TV, etc. rights belong to MGM. A couple of weeks ago, our reps from SPHE came by the store I worked at and they told me, cause I complimented them on the awesome Ultimate Editions (which, IMO, were 100% thanks to Sony, Fox just slapped their logo on it afterwards at the last minute). I actually think that it was MGM's fault for the crappy release of CR (and those awful single disc releases), because I remember hearing that MGM/ Fox was gonna release the DVD, but at the last minute Sony won out for some reason. But they told me that the Quantum would go to MGM/ Fox (which has me concerned since Fox really knows how to screw us, especially those with Blu-ray).

I personally hope that Sony tries whatever they can to get more of Bond out of MGM's hands, cause they've sucked lately. IMO, if MGM did CR, we would have go in 05, with Pierce Brosnan back as Bond, some big name idiots in the supporting roles, an action heavy script from P&W (sans Haggis), and a sloppy promotional campaign. Sure Sony did a lot of product placement (with even more being found each time I watch it), but they were the ones willing to delay it by a year, bring in a new, more established dramatic writer, bring in fresh faces in the supporting roles, and a new Bond they knew some people may question. They really saved Bond, hate for them to loose the series.

But anyways, getting back to the news about the new DVD. Does anyone know if this is coming to Blu-ray? Been itching to pick CR up on Blu, but have known that an SE was obviously in the works. And hopefully, especially if Fox releases over here, that any special edition Blu-ray would carry over the same features.

But, when's the North American release. I'm gonna say probably October 14 or 21, then bump up QoS' release to October 31. Or is that last part wishful thinking.

3 DVD releases in two years. I know I don't have to buy but it still feels like they are taking the piss. When Lord of the Rings was first released on DVD they made it clear that there would be a future definitive edition

95% of DVD buyers don't care about most of the extras. When they release a special edition is basically for us fans. Most video stores and people bought the first version and that is where most of the DVD revenue came from. We fans should be grateful that they are putting together a special edition for us to enjoy. And yes, the studio's are a BUSINESS not a charity. If they can make more money by doing this...why not. It is what makes the world go around.

Can't wait to see the deleted scenes. It'll also frustrate me watching them as I will be wishing they were in the final film. It would be so great if they had another disc with the complete film with the deleted scenes edited back in there. Why not? What does it hurt? They've done it with other films. They have nothing to lose. Please Sony or MGM or whoever, do us fans another little favour! I would like to edit the entire film together with the deleted scenes copied in there myself. Don't know if it's possible though. You can't copy these DVD's can you? Does anyone know?

What frustrated me the most was them cutting back the pre titles sequence. I would have loved to have seen Bond at the cricket game, tailing his first kill into the bathroom. This would have been a nice, more traditional spy type scene. It also would have built more suspense. It's a shame they have to cut so much good stuff out in replace of all the action they have to make room for.

They usually cut out scenes, because they didn't work or that they missed some shots necessary to the storytelling.

As for people wanting the longer cut, if EON won't santion it, bet it will appear on fanedit pretty soon.

'm grateful. I'm so grateful that they are putting together a special edition to fleece us that I won't buy any of their DVD's again

Wasn't this edition already talked about even before the first release ? I seem to remember that.

As for this type of attitude, I cannot understand it, where were you fleeced ? Did you buy a product claiming it had things that weren't in there the first time around ? That's fleecing. You knew what you bought, now there will be an alternative. It's not a con, it's a choice. Get it or don't. It's like buying a TV, then complaining that the same model have been improved and is available two years later for others to buy.

"They usually cut out scenes, because they didn't work or that they missed some shots necessary to the storytelling."

At times. It's also very much about running time.

I know the scenes in Apocalypse Now Redux certainly worked for me! The deleted scenes in CR sound great and would have added more suspense, colour and atmosphere to the film. I would have much rather had them in there and had them trim back on the action somehow.

I would adore a CASINO ROYALE: EXTENDED CUT. Odds are we'll never see one, but it would be a nice move. I'd love to see how the film would play with some of these missing bits and pieces.

Personally I wouldn't want it- I think CR's probably a little too long as it is and I'd only be watching an extended version to be looking out for the new bits anyway.

I'd like a recut PTS fight with some more of the stuff they filmed added in, but that's all I'd want recut.

Ok, it's nice that they are releasing more stuff from Casino Royale - documentaries, cut scenes and all that. I doubt I'll buy it though. I've already shelled out for the original DVD and the BluRay disc. No way am I shellin out for this movie a third time.

Assuming the bonus were produced in SD, there would be no point in rebuying the same Blu-Ray.
In fact, I fail to understand the rationale these days of including on a Blu-Ray disc SD bonuses. Why not just add the 2nd disc of the SD version, like they did for Blade Runner ?

It's true scenes are sometimes cuts for lenght, but regarding the 007 saga, I doubt there have been Apocalypse Now extensive in shooting, these people runs a very tight operation, mostly the cut scenes they have found in the UEs are of no interest.

I think they cut it more because of effect than anything. They wanted to slam you into the flashback with all the brutality of Bond's memory. Flashing back to Bond slowly trailing someone through the crowd doesn't have the same effect.

I dont see what everyones problem is here.

The problem is that the first release was a piss-poor effort, and people are now being asked to fork out again for stuff that should have been on the original release.

Die Another Day had ten hours worth of extras when it first came out on DVD in 2003. At the very least Casino Royale should have had a commentary track and some trailers and TV spots. Instead, we got discs that were padded out with trailers for every other upcoming Sony film, and a barely revised version of Bond Girls Are Forever.

Brilliant.

I think Mharkin means there's more special features from this 3 disc set to be announced :D
Listing the commentary as a "Crew Commentary" is interesting though. I really hope it definetly is with Campbell and the producers and not just one with say the 2nd Unit Director or something.

I really do hope we get an Extended Version of Casino Royale!

It would be great to get a "Director's Cut" with all the missing footage restored, although I suppose as long as all the deleted scenes are included as special features, I'll be satisfied.

I won't be. Not satisfied. I'll be happy (as I already am), but there will always be a little EE-shaped hole in my heart until I get to see the film with the 'good' scenes worked back in. (Useless, awkward or otherwise bad scenes, if any exist, should remain on the 2nd and 3rd disc as features.)
