It's the same as the 2006 UK cinema and 2007 UK DVD versions.

OK, so is the version being released in North America the UK version? My understanding is that that was edited differently than what we saw in the U.S. and Canada (longer stairwell fight scene), etc.

Also, is the sound any better on this one (the HD version)? We really had to play around with the sound on our stereo (admittedly not for audiophiles) to make it sound halfway decent.

No the version released in the U.S. is identical to the original DVD released in the U.S. so its the PG-13 cut of the film and the audio on the SD DVD is the same as the old version (however this was on a regular TV and not a sound system) however the video quality did improve slightly (sharper and this improved the colors). I don't know about the Blu-ray since I do not own that.

Well, this is interesting. I got it this afternoon at the local Blockbuster store. I've only got as far as "You Know My Name" and the freerunning sequence, but that told me everything I needed to know in terms of sound. To my ears -- and on our Sony compact stereo system -- this sounds vastly improved over the DVD we got before; the sound is crisp, and I can actually hear Chris Cornell's vocals over the accompaniment. with the original DVD, we had to play around a fair bit with the sound levels to get it to sound even remotely close to what it sounded like in the cinema.

Granted, we have a limited stereo system, so I expect some of that, but it was rather disappointing to pop in the DVD and get all excited to watch one of our favourite films of all time, only to be underwhelmed by the sound quality. That doesn't seem to be the case this time around. Maybe we got a lemon with the original release? Dunno. I'm quite happy with this, and am looking forward to watching all the new extras. (Especially as the forecast is calling for 25 to 30 centimetres of snow tomorrow . . . ack!) I also appreciate the coupon for a free "Quantum of Solace" ticket . . . though if last time was any indication, I'll be a repeat customer, so they'll make a few bucks off of me!

I watched the third disc last night. Fantastic, in-depth stuff for us Bond enthusiasts. John Cork really knows his stuff. I found all the background info fascinating - the inspiration for the Solange character, Bond's long history with the Bahamas...I actually improved my knowledge by watching the docos.

I agree. The new docs by John Cork are brilliant. So much info I didn't know.

Someone should ask this John Cork why the skinny dipping scene with Bond and Vesper has not been included in the deleted scenes.

I finally managed to pick this up today. £14.99 in Harrods. The packaging is absoloutly beautiful. The Campbell/Wilson commentary is indeed very satisfying.

I'm looking forward to watching some of the documentarys.

I watched my Blu-ray last night to get ready for QoS last week. I have both it and the standard version and believe me, there is a difference. I can see why a lot of people say CR is a reference quality demo for Blu-ray. Everything pops on this film and in many ways made it as exciting if not more exciting than seeing it in a cinema.

I haven't watched many of the special features, but did check out Bond in the Bahamas and was impressed. It's the type of subject DVD was made for and included a lot of great stuff. I especially liked some of the behind-the-scenes footage from TB and wondered why that never made it into the TB ultimate edition.

Quick Question for anyone: I'm pretty sure that I'm getting the three disc edition of CR for Xmas. I've heard rumours that the disc with the actual movie doesn't work unless you have a Sony/blu-ray player.
Can someone let me know please?

I got CR deluxe edition for christmas, and the extras are quite good, particuly the documentarys.

The deleted scenes were good and was just ashame that they never featured in the film. What did annoy me was there was no footage of the naked swim with Bond and Vesper. I thought that would been a vital point in the film. It seemed pure Fleming and can't see why it never made the deluxe edition.

Did anyone noticed that there were unseen footage in the documentaries of the 3 disc edition? For example, I remember one of Bond in a tux looking thru a window drinking whisky. It was featured in a TV spot.

Yes! I adore this. I love all of the alternate and unused angles aswell.

I received this for Christmas. I've watched the movie as well as the deleted scenes and a couple of the documentaries. My only disappointment with the special features is that Bond and Vesper's swim was not included. Other than that, the documentaries are excellent. John Cork really knows his Bond stuff, and I found out a lot I had previously not known. I'm looking forward to watching the rest as well as the audio commentaries.

Also, the packaging is great. This is the easily the best looking Bond DVD that is available, and it is great that Casino Royale has finally got the DVD treatment it deserves.

Guess what: I also got this edition for christmas! I'm halfway through now. The featurettes I've seen so far are very well put together. The Campbell/Wilson-commentary was very informative and entertaining as well (the Skyfleet being a model? Wow!). The cricket pavilion is my fav deleted scene.
Have to say, it was worth the wait.

I think the Casino Royale DE is probably the best DVD release ever! Seriously, the whole package is fantastic. The artwork is great, the extras are excellent and the film is, well, blinding!

I don't know if the NTSC/PAL thing works for BD too, I mean, I don't really know if my Blu-ray player (Sony BDP- S350) could somehow play not only Region A, but Region B also.

Anyone from Britain can answer me if your BD's Deluxe Edition is all regions (A, B, C) or just B??

NTSC/PAL does not for high definition material, but if supplementary materials are in SD then they will be either NTSC or PAL. A lot of UK supplementary material is encoded in NTSC anyway as UK players are designed to cope with NTSC, but some UK only releases (such as Escape to Athena on ITVDVD's Blu-ray) do have some supplementary material encoded in PAL which American players can't handle.

Most of the CR material is HD anyway so will play on any player, but I think some pieces may be in SD (such as Chris Cornell's music video). My guess would be it is encoded in NTSC as the Sony disc is not UK specific, but don't hold me to that.

Why would I want to import the UK version?? Because it includes the booklet that the BD's USA version doesn't have, and arguably has a better looking package too. But unfortunately for me, I already bought the USA edition for DVD (hence I already have the booklet for this format) and BD. It was too late when I noticed the differences between these releases. Besides I think that I'm not that mad for the littles- cuts- to get the French or Oz version, just for the sake of the uncensored version.

I have a quick question that could use a quick answer and it concerns Canadian and U.S. fans mostly.

I've been told from somebody that the version of Casino Royale available in the U.S. is a supposedly cut version with certain edits made to the film. This same person told me the Australian version is completely uncut and is even a tad more violent.

My question is: Do any Canadian fans who own the Collector's Edition know which version of the film is available in Canada?
