It was mid-summer, I'm quite sure. In fact I'm positive it was late July/early August or something like that.

CR may have spoiled us a bit, I'm afraid.

DAD teaser was released in may

Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer for a trailer... unless this is all just hogwash anyway. Was that Casino Royale teaser, first released on French TV, ever shown in cinemas?

I don't know how reliable this source is but if it is true I am a bit furious. With a movie that had a teaser poster a week and half into production you would think we would have a teaser trailer by, well now. It could even be a short one just some end shots from CR and ending with QOS. I do hope that is the second teaser because 3 trailers would be nice especially a short one by May. At the rate the Indy trailer came out I wouldn't be surprised if we get a theatrical one a day before it comes out.

Yeah, maybe waiting until July to release the trailer is sort of balancing out the mega-early release of a poster.

July just seems like an odd time for me. It's kind of right in between when the teaser and theatrical trailers were released for CASINO ROYALE. It should also be around the time that production wraps, so maybe they can squeeze all of their footage into this, as opposed to CASINO ROYALE when virtually everything we saw in the trailer was from the PTS, Madagascar, and Bahamas scenes.

Who knows... maybe we'll get a teaser before, but the timing would really be awkward then. Regardless, July 2 is a hell of a long way off.

July is plenty of time for a trailer, and they picked a good time to release it: Will Smith film, Fourth of July weekend; theatres will be packed to see Hancock (I might be one of them).

Yes, it would have been great to see it in front of The Dark Knight, Indy 4 and/or Iron Man, and perhaps someone can lend some insight into this, but I don't think studios can attach just any trailer to their films unless the two studios are affiliated. Again, I could be way off, but I don't think Fox (Indy 4), Marvel (Iron Man), or Warner Bros. (The Dark Knight) would want to promote a film from Sony/MGM (QOS). The only reason DAD was attached to Goldmember was because it was part of the settlement between MGM and New Line.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a small teaser sometime in April/May in the vein of TDK, consisting of just a voiceover from Craig and M over a sigle develooping shot, with a quick image or two shown at the end, along with "November 2008." Hmmm...

Sony/MGM/Columbia logos appear.

A closeup shot of a puddle of blood on the stone ground, which is slowly getting bigger; the source of it is offscreen.

M's voice: "She double-crossed you, but try to take solace in the fact that she did what she did to try and save you. Remember that, and don't let your feelings get the better of you again."

A quick shot of Mr. White walking away with the money from CASINO ROYALE flashes in the blood puddle, which is getting bigger and darker.

"Treat this mission coldly and objectively. Not personally. Is that understood?"

A man's voice becomes audible, which is screaming in agony. The camera slowly pans out and up to reveal the source of blood and screaming to be Mr. White, whose face is soaked in sweat and being shadowed by another figure.

The screen goes black, a familiar voice:

"I understand Italy is lovely this time of year."

The first few bars of "The Name's Bond...James Bond" from the CR soundtrack kick in.

The black screen fades into the final shot of CASINO ROYALE, with Bond looming over White whilst brandishing a machine gun. This time, it's from White's perspective; because of the sunlight and the fact that White is beginning to lose consciousness, we can only see Bond's silhouette, which quickly extends a hand to drag White away.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE logo appears, followed by NOVEMBER 7.

...thoughts?

Well, this is a little later than expected. One good thing is that it won't be such a long wait from trailer to actual release. I wonder if there will be some sort of very short teaser trailer in the meantime?

No, studios can't attach trailers to other studio's films, but in 99% of cases, studios will just send their trailers to theatres, and the theater owners will put them in front of whatever film they like.
I'm not sure I buy this story anyway. I have no doubt that there will be a QoS trailer attached to Hancock, but this doesn't mean the trailer won't be out sooner than that anyway. They're already putting the word out there about QoS, we've already got a teaser poster and a behind-the-scenes video, with the official website getting a makeover today, so they're hardly slacking in the marketing department.
Not having a trailer out until July would be different from what they've done for the last five Bond films, and would seem to go against this early buzz-building that we've been getting. I'll be surprised if they don't put out a teaser into theatres in time for the end of May, where we're going to get one of the biggest films of the year released on one of the biggest moviegoing weekends of the year.

There is a new pattern developing among A level movies - and that is the "less-is-more" syndrome. Spielberg adopted this approach with the Indiana Jones trailer that kept footage to a minimum - and released it about 3 and 1/2 months before the movie opens. We're seeing this more & more with high profile movies whose audience are already built in - and don't require large advertising budgets to get the word out.

Just so people are aware of how trailers get up on screen.

The studio releasing the film is allowed two trailers on screen with basically full placement. One is attached to the actual print of the film and one is enclosed in the canister of the movies.

The rest of the trailers are from other studios trying to get a spot on the film. The exhibitor then decides which of the studios will have their trailer playing on the film. Sometimes there can be 15 trailers trying to only get a few spots on the film.

As far a QoS goes I would be very very surprised if they didn't have a teaser trailer on Indiana Jones and Dark Knight. Hancock is a sure bet as it is the same studio and they be getting 100% of screening across the country. Less is more might work for Indy, but I believe Eon will go the route of doing as much marketing as possible as seen with the release of the teaser poster, which is now finally in theaters.

July? Hmm. Later than desirable, but it's fine. The marketing blitz doesn't really need to start moving until then, anyhow.

I remember hearing a while back that the first teaser trailer for QoS would be attached to Indy 4, which seems like a perfect match. But now as Indy's about to open (finally) tomorrow night, all that talk has gone to silence. So, does anyone know, will there be a QoS teaser with Indy? I know that whenever a Bond opens in the fall, the first trailer comes usually around mid- May, I know that TWINE was with Star Wars I, I think DAD was with Star Wars II, then CR was with DaVinci Code. Cause if they don't, and hold it off for Hancock or Zohan, it'll look really bad on Sony's part (like Paramount did by not putting the Indy trailer with National Treasure), for them to take a teaser for one of their biggest films of the year, and put it with one of their own movies that appeals to a small group of that films audience, or put it with another studios film where the audiences are almost the same. So, is there a teaser with Indy? Will it be a surprise? or a disappointment (although, I don't see anything being disappointing about a new Indy film).

I think if they would attach it tomorrow to INDY4, we would have already seen the trailer somewhere on the web. Usually Moviefone, Yahoo or some other stations present the trailer first.

Pity... I'll certainly watch Indy 4 in the cinema, but I really don't care about Hancock. I guess this means I'll have to content myself with the trailer on Internet

Nope. It isn't happening.

New trailers that will debut with prints of Indy are Kung fu Panda, Eagle Eye, and The Curious case of Benjamin Button.

Other trailers "looking for placement" are Hamlet 2, Australia, The Spirit, Traitor, Hancock, Twilight, Hellboy 2, The Dark Knight, Get Smart and WALL-E.

So, its still a long way to July 2...

The trailer was never going to be attached to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull because Sony do not holdthe distribution rights to Indy's latest adventure.
