I'm going to wait for the price to drop on this one, though. I don't want to pay more than about £25 for it if I can help it.

"I would! And I, in fact, just talked with Steven Spielberg recently - we e-mailed back and forth, and I said, 'What should I say? I'm doing this publicity, what should I say if people ask me that question?' And he said, 'It's in George's [Lucas] hands! I'm game, Harrison's game, and now it's up to George to write the script or to get the script organized, and the story.' And so I think it's - they want to do a fifth, from what I understand, but they don't want to do it just to do it, they want to do it if they can come up with a story that everybody is happy with and that everybody likes."

Well I never knew this thread existed..brilliant.
I hope they show 'Raiders' in other cinemas, not just IMAX - but they would defy the IMAX release I guess, so I'll have to wait for a re-release sometime maybe.
All cracking films in their own right, and I can't wait for the deserved Blu Ray transition and boxset due in the next couple of months!
I just found this thread when searching. Awesome. I love these saga of movies, I am not counting the 4th one which is terrible. The first and the third are my favorites.

To think that there could be many more Indy films - to have him possibly celebrate a 50th anniversary, too...
But after the sale of Lucasfilm I would not be surprised if Disney at some point will re-boot Indiana Jones with a younger actor. I would love that.
To expect Ford to return to that role is probably unrealistic, even if he is open to do one more Star Wars film. Han Solo never had to endure what Mr.Jones went through.

I hope not. Let's leave a good thing, preserved for generations forever.
If they want to continue in someway, I'll be for that as long as it's not trying to remake the character. Imagine a 50th anniversary for Indiana Jones - that's ace.
Star Wars too I expect.

... I guess it´s the same situation as with Connery after stepping down as Bond. True, Spielberg´s directing is a huge element in the success of the four films. But another director and another actor could still work magic because the character is the main attraction here IMO.

I just don't know if they'd continue with the era Indy is based in, say the 50s after 'KOTCS', or if it would be modern-day version.

The character of Indiana Jones is something of cinematic legacy now, I agree, but I can't see him being handled well enough to continue... saying that, the Star Wars prequels certainly proved new generations of fans can be found in a series and new direction can be taken.
I just don't know if they'd continue with the era Indy is based in, say the 50s after 'KOTCS', or if it would be modern-day version.
I think the only way to go is BACK, have not the teenager Indy but the young adult Indy. Something interesting must have happened before "Temple of Doom" and before and after "Raiders", so many adventures are possible during that era!

As you say, we've had versions of a childhood Indy and teenager with 'The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles' - they were great! So I'd hope for a young adult Indiana Jones, nothing too young mind as most heroes seem to be now (bar 007!), but I'd be up for cross-film adventures too.

I dunno, not sure it is. I tried Young Indy and it was rubbish- that Spielberg wit was entirely missing and without that I don't know if there's much left. If something has 'Indiana Jones' written on it I want all of the elements that the films supply: pumping action, funny gags, visual wit- trademark Spielberg stuff.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is my all-time favorite movie, but it's just not Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Bond can endure with other actors, Indy cannot. In fact, I would even say it's not Indy without battling the Nazis. The Russians were terrible villains in Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom is the worst of the original three. And don't even get me started on the crapfest of games that bear Indy's name.

I think it depends who they cast for the role, I didn't like Shia though.

I don't think Indiana Jones can work post 1960s era - something about him has to remain in the golden era of B-movie settings, with those real life, yet cartoon character, villains.
It'd be a big risk to cast another actor as Indiana Jones...but who are we to say "risk" when Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond and launched the series into the outer limits?!
Could be a welcome return one day...

Eh maybe, I just really don't want it too. Of course with Disney now owning the rights, we could soon see Jack Sparrow as Indy (ugh). Indiana Jones was designed to replicate the serial films of the 1930s and I think that's where it needs to stay. Also, just as in that classic episode of South Park, DON'T CHANGE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK!!!!

Well think about this too, I mean Daniel Craig made the James Bond comeback so maybe another actor can revive Indiana Jones. It definitely is risky but it could work if pulled off correctly.
