Not a spoiler. Moving to regular forum. General rule: If you can expect big ads containing words like ‘Bonds wears/uses/brushes with...’, it’s not a spoiler.

And if it were a spoiler, why would you put the ‘spoiler’ in the topic title where (most) everyone can read it?

Not a watch officianado, like many on here, but doesn't the bracelet on the watch in the second photos look more like a Seamaster bracelet?

It does from afar. But I think it is definitely a PO, probably a 45 of diameter like the one he wore in CR but in a steel bracelet instead of the rubber strap

Yeah, they said it would be a whole new watch, a sort of Seamaster 2220.80.00, just in black. Glad to see Daniel has the same watch as his alter ego

Pant pockets won't last long shoving a giant watch like that into them repeatedly!

Still nothing on Quantum of Solace on the Omega site yet but it's probably a bit to early to start on the marketing end just yet. I'm curious to see what the 007 Edition will look like this time around.

I don't know jack about watches, but I gotta tell you if I hadn't already committed my tax return to home recording equipment, I'd really seriously consider some type of Omega. Those things are beautiful.

If memory serves, it was well into May when Casino Royale was being filmed before Omega SA started releasing its "official word" on the then-new James Bond wristwatch.

But if it helps w/ current interest, here are some links to current Omega production models.
From the links I've included above, you can navigate around the Omega SA site and see that there are further versions w/in these versions. This led to a lot of confusion for folks purchasing Brosnan-era James Bond wristwatches due to similarities even when model numbers were known.

2008 Quantum of Solace Omega Planet Ocean.
I found this Image of a 007 PO on omegablogger.com. Check it out Sir James & Mr. Deaton (I've visited your pages numerous times).
It looks legit to me, and if it's not, then someone has a great way of doctoring up photos.

Unless your link is coming up wrong for me, and I quote, "This entry was posted on Sunday, October 16th, 2005 at 8:53 am," including my first response approximately two months later. And this is very much and admitted to be a doctored-up photo.

The responses to which I was referring here are my original Posts on the blogger website. I haven't weighed in much on the rumors about a potentially new Quantum of Solace watch, although I can see anticipating something featuring a variant of the OMEGA calibre 8500/8501, which is their latest move toward a larger manufacture status. Similarly, it was certainly great to see James Bond w/ exclusively co-axial movement watches in Casino Royale, because this represented what Omega SA considered its most advanced technology at that time.

Now for a trivia question to the historians among us--

It seems that Ian Fleming actually specified "a 'Quantum of Solace' wristwatch," after his own unique fashion. Anyone care to name the original brand of this time piece?

Just off topic for a moment. As much as I like the Omega Seamaster, you can't beat the Rolex Submariner in my opinion.

What's the deal with the watch contract, any chance of it making a comeback? - Or has the line in Casino Royale "Rolex?" - "Omega", sealed the deal for good?

... What's the deal with the watch contract, any chance of it making a comeback? - Or has the line in Casino Royale "Rolex?" - "Omega", sealed the deal for good?

Omega SA certainly hasn't sealed the deal for good as exclusive James Bond watch.

Off the top of my head-- the original product placement contract began w/ GoldenEye, and a subsequent multi-picture arrangement was made beginning w/ Die Another Day. So there was never any question that Daniel Craig would wear Omega in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. I also seem to recall that no cash changed hands, but, rather, there would be cross-promotion in advertising, and that physical wristwatches would supplied to production, but retained for ownership by Omega.

The question of Rolex making a comeback is a complicated one. At a basic level, you have the question of whether or not this manufacturer would go for the sort of product placement situation that EON has established here. Second, you have the ROI question: Omega sponsors 007 to sell watches. The post-Brosnan watches come at a price point considerably higher than the original James Bond quartz model or subsequent mechanicals. The current Rolex Submariner (though Ian Fleming only ever specified brand, not model) sells for something like a third more than the Planet Ocean. So, will the James Bond affiliation add anything significant to the Rolex bottom line, as it clearly does for Omega? (The Rolex Submariner Date, which Timothy Dalton wore as James Bond and is a more likely, practical choice, commands an even higher price point.)

Two watch collector Forum Polls I've run may be of interest--
  • 66% of those responding to my November 2006 Poll said "Rolex" when asked to name their first choice for the 007 brand (and 55% of the total specified the Submariner model).
  • 68% of those responding to my January 2008 Poll said "Rolex" when asked to name their second choice for the 007 brand (and 39% of the total specified the Submariner model); note that this did no preclude Rolex from also being their first choice, since there have been numerous models featured in the films.
I've come to enjoy the various James Bond wristwatch brands and models just as I do the differing actors in the films. Each has strengths and weaknesses, and the variety of interpretations makes this subject all the richer for me. Whatever that means for Omega and Quantum of Solace, I'm sure I'll enjoy that.

Personally I just love the look of the blue on blue Seamaster. It's my all time favorite Bond watch. Of course, all of the Rolex and Omega watches are more than I would ever pay for a watch (Yes... Considerably.). But I'm more than happy to settle for a pale imitation...

It was "a slim, attractive Cartier wristwatch."

After seeing the PO on a rubber strap in Casino Royale, I fell in love with it. I opted for the stainless bracelet, because I wear it every day (and its dressier). I tried both seamaster on and the planet ocean, and liked the look of the PO better, just my personal preference. Plus, after Casino Royale, I thought it would be a strong candidate for the next "Bond Watch," and buying it would put me ahead of the game. This way, in November when I'm sitting in the theater watching QOS i could look at my wrist and say, yep, I made the right decision! I'm a bit of a freak with watches. My wife says its a fetish!
