Devil May Care
I like what you've done with your hair.
Was it for a dare?
You're so devil may care.

Devil May Care
You have a really funny stare.
Left eye looks elsewhere.
That's so devil may care.

Devil May Care
You smell like an old frigidaire;
That perfume you wear,
It's so devil may care

Devil May Care
Like a sandwich in Tupperware
Laced with pubic hair,
You're so devil may care

Devil May Care
Frankly you're an utter nightmare
More than I can bear,
But I'm so devil may care

[Lengthy cowbell solo]

[Key change]

Devil May Care
Doesn't rhyme with Harare

Devil May Care
Now you know it's time to prepare
To bid your life fare
Well.

I think I love this.

He's tall and he's dark, but he sets fires a-spark
And causes men to tear up and swear;
Though the angels may not give a damn,
The Devil May Care.

So he goes throughout life, thriving all through the strife
In a way that you cannot compare:
The angels may not give a damn,
But the Devil May Care.

And I know
He's a killer;
He'll soothe any dame like vanilla,
But when the time comes
To do whatever must be done,
He goes off-- and leaves you with scintilla!

But, though he makes a man feel much less than he can,
The competition's still only fair:
The angels may not give a damn,
but the Devil May Care.

Oh, the angels may not give a damn,
but the Devil May Care!

That DMC mySpace page is great, BTW. The blog updates quite often.

I couldn't vote for any of those. Personally speaking they were non-descript attempts at songs, let alone Bond songs. And why the centenary comeback of a literary 007 needs a cinematically inspired theme tune is beyond me. I know it's marketing, but it demonstrates the same sort of blinkered early 90's take on the Bond wagon that these songs seem to be stuck in.

SAL had my vote. The less "pastichey" IMO, and the one I could honestly listen to more than once on a radio.

I'm leaning toward SAL myself. Although I think Ellison might be a better match to the book.

And - for the record - can we please leave the following phrases out of all future Bond songs...? Chris Cornell and David Arnold manage to do so okay without the following lazy use of lyrics...

Man
Stranger
Gun
Death
Game
Love
Deadly
Death
Ice
Fire
Death
Ice
Lies
Death
Adventure
Danger
and death involving ice...

Otherwise the songs end up sounding like a bad mix between the LIFE OF BRIAN opening theme song and The Simpsons SCORPIUS...

[To the comedy brass of the LIFE OF BRIAN theme tune]
"Bond...the babe they called Bond!"

Otherwise the songs end up sounding like a bad mix between the LIFE OF BRIAN opening theme song and The Simpsons SCORPIUS...

Scorpio!
He'll sting you with his dreams of power and wealth.
Beware of Scorpio!
His twisted twin obsessions are his plot to rule the world
And his employees' health.
He'll welcome you into his lair,
Like the nobleman welcomes his guest.
With free dental care and a stock plan that helps you invest!
But beware of his generous pensions,
Plus three weeks paid vacation each year,
And on Fridays the lunchroom serves hot dogs and burgers and beer!
He loves German beer!

On a more serious note, none of those songs do anything particularly for me. I'm a bit disappointed with the shortlist to be honest.

Well, they are all what they are. I'll have to listen some more, but SAL does hit me like some classic Pat Benatar which to my ears in kind of cool.

I'll give it some more thought before voting.

LOL. I also thought SAL sounded very Pat Benatar. In fact, I remember thinking back in the day how great it would be if Pat Benatar did a Bond theme. But I knew that would never happen. She was too much of a rocker. This was back in the days of 'All Time High', mind you.

The first two are very good, my favourite out of the two is probably the first one, Chantel and the Dry Martini's - not listened to the other three yet.

Listening to them I was afraid I wasn't going to like any of them, but SAL isn't half-bad. It's the most original and the most .. 'radio-worthy' IMO.

SAL's tune is actually stuck in my head after 2 listens. Is that a good sign? I don't know. Maybe.
