Yes isnt that strange? he had that, even the "human" Craig has way too many personalities to mold and contend with to please the 50+ year franchise, Laz only really had to distance himself from 1 other actor.

Lazenby's Bond suffers something the others (prior to Craig) just don't. They get hurt sometimes lose a colleague or girl, but bounce back for a happy ending. The Lazenby Bond proves he's not the invincible guy in the end. Hell, he even has to deal with letting Blofeld escape on top of losing Tracy.
I wonder how much of this aspect of OHMSS colored people's opinion of the film and Lazenby, particularly the average fan or moviegoer, prior to its rediscovery.

I prefer Die Hard 2 as a December essential.
AMC, we are of the same mind! Always prefer 2 to the original when it comes to a Christmas film.
As for OHMSS, I've always felt that Laz improves upon repeated viewings, but I do understand why audiences at the time were not thrilled. Simply put, he wasn't SC, and I think whoever the 2nd chap was, he was always going to be on a hiding to nothing. At the time SC was Bond, Bond was SC, and unlike now, where we're used to characters turning over, replacing SC was unthinkable.
That, coupled with a storyline that re-centered Bond as a more "human" character, was always going to hurt OHMSS. I disagree with the notion that it's a great film that has been "rediscovered" - it was a great film then, it just wasn't what the audience wanted. Splitting hairs, I know, but isn't that a forum is for…..!!

I also am suffering from a case of OHMSS addiction haha! When I first saw it years back I didn't think too much, but since a year ago or so I've really come to love it. No doubt a Top 5 Bond movie, at least in my eyes. I actually love Lazenby's take as Bond, despite what many say. I just love the entire story, villains, Bond woman, and music... oh the music... there is nothing unnatural with OHMSS addiction! Excellent Bond film.

If you're going to be addicted to something, it may as well be something of high quality.

I feel like Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's and Casino Royale, all belong in a league far above above all other Bonds. There's just something about those movies that set them apart from the others. Of those, CR and OHMSS sit at the top of the tree, for me.
