Watched OHMSS today. It's easily the most regularly played of my Bond DVD's. Can't get enough of the film. The plot, the acting, the action, the cinematography and the godly score - it's all so terrific. It's truly a fantastic piece of cinema and a great adaptation of Fleming's work.

Quite frankly, it's James Bond at his best.

I agree wholeheartedly. It always pains me to realize when watching the film that there isn't any other George Lazenby 007 film in existence. He nailed it.

By the way, does anyone know the name of the music track which plays when Bond is escorted to meet Comte de Bleuchamp for the first time? Is it on the soundtrack album?

I'm not sure on the track name, but I am pretty sure it is on the score. The soundtrack is a must have btw.

I'm hoping to watch OHMSS again soon as time permits. I recently watched Diamonds and Moonraker.

It is a shame that George only made one film.

I love OHMSS.  It has that psychadelic 1969 feel and an intriguing plot.

I would have liked there to have been more of a visual consistency between OHMSS and DAF. It goes from the beautiful white slopes of Switzerland to the dry unappealing Nevada desert and to many day time shots of Vegas IMO. I would have liked to seen another film directed by Peter R. Hunt.

Hunt totally deserved another Bond film or 3 or 4.

Only if you watch them back-to-back. Wait two years in between and you'll be more appreciative.

I guess you would if you watch them back to back you go from a master piece to something which is a big disappointment imo

I saw DAF first, and it wasn't until a year later that I saw OHMSS, so I found all the differences easier to take - including a different Bond, as I was already looking forward to seeing Roger Moore's debut.

This same ability to accept differences in things I cannot change served me well when the new Addams Family movies came out. I had never seen the TV series when I was younger, but when I sought it out on video I didn't consider that Raul Julia or John Astin had 'got it wrong' (IMO the only misstep was 'Addams Family Reunion', but it wasn't the cast's fault).

I admit OHMSS is superior to DAF, but as DAF was my first I'll defend it to the last, as any Bond fan would (even those who cut their teeth on AVTAK).

OHMSS works with FYEO. DAF goes with YOLT.

I find that DAF and TMWTGG make a good double-feature.

I like to think the mobster killed in the pre titles sequence of TMWTGG was the same one from DAF.

Sometimes it takes a setback - like the departure of Connery (or Saltzman or Brosnan or MGM) - to inspire the production team to get up off its laurels, pull out the stops and make a real cracker of a film.

OHMSS is definitely one of these - under-rated in it's day, 'forgotten' for a while and now appreciated for its high quality. It's easier to accept a Bond film without Connery now than it was then because it's been done - and this is the first one to prove it could be done.

One week to go until my annual viewing!

Yes you are right how strange a lifespan this movie has had so far.

The 70s, 80s, 90s must have sucked for this one.

Majesty's is my favorite, so I try to keep my viewings at a minimum to keep it fresh. I do watch it around Christmas though to get myself pumped for skiing.

Watched the first half of the film last weekend with the GF (she despises Bond). She gave it a chance, and since I haven't seen the film in ages, OHMSS still holds up. The pacing and the plot is still top-notch. Will finish the rest of the second half this weekend.

I've never watched OHMSS during the Christmas season, which I've always wanted to. I have Die Hard on Blu-ray now too, so maybe a double feature.

I prefer Die Hard 2 as a December essential.

Tomorrow is my annual OHMSS party. With my kids going away for the holidays, this will be like our Christmas eve.

(Singing)

"On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me:

Twelve Fleming Novels

Eleven Barry soundtracks

Ten Gorgeous girls

Nine Rolex watches

Eight Moonrakers

Seven cancelled countdowns

Six Aston Martins

Five Golden Guns

Four hijacked subs

Three tuxedos

Two Lotus Esprits

And the one with George Lazenby"

I used to hate OHMSS, especially Lazenby's portrayal of bond.

Over the last few years i've changed my opinion completely and regard OHMSS as one of the very best of the series. I even like Lazenby's bond now, which has several elements (e.g., vulernability, relatability...) that none of the other bonds have. Somehow he makes bond seem more like a 'real' person.
