Moderators, if this belongs in the spoilers forum, feel free to redirect.

Now, as we all know, Casino Royale introduced an entirely new and different gunbarrel scene to the Bond lore, having it take place in an actual location and not having Craig strut across the screen and whatnot.

My question is, how would you like the gunbarrel sequence in Bond 22 to play out?

Personally, I'd like to have the scrolling dots, but stop in the middle to reveal MICHAEL G. WILSON & BARABRA BROCCOLI PRESENT like in the gunbarrels for Dr. No and OHMSS; it'd be a nice little throwback. The dots would then continue to the edge of the screen, the circle would widen, and Craig, as he puts on the familiar trilby, would stride across that wide backdrop in a menacing fashion, then BANG! The CG blood would then drip down, darken the hole, and we'd open up into the first scene of Bond 22.

Also, I'd have the Bond theme sort of segue from the Columbia logo, by having the dying notes of the Columbia theme linger for a few seconds in darkness, then suddenly transform into the brassy middle section of the Bond theme as the dots begin. It'd be sort of cool, I think. :D

So, what are your ideas? Any suggestions?

I don't want the old gunbarrel anymore. Either they will use a new version of the CR one using the same footage, or make up a new version with each movie, will be fine to me. But not the old one, we got what, 20 versions of it already ? Tired and old.

I'd be happy with the traditional gun barrel sequence, but re imaged to how it looks in CR, and I image that is what we will likely get.

I want Kleinmann to have the license to redesign the gunbarrel like he's always wanted to do (one of his concepts shows up in the TOMORROW NEVER DIES theatrical trailer). If he just wants to reuse the awesome re-design from CASINO ROYALE, that's cool too.

I would have them keep the CR gunbarrel design and blood drip. I would have the traditional gunbarrel opening and the walk across the screen intact.

I love that idea. The Columbia music could linger into a drum roll, then BANG!

I prefer the traditional gunbarrel with the dots. But they should redesign it, so that it looks closer to the one Binder used in the beginning.

I always thought that the way Brosnan shoot wasn't realistic. The power of the shoot would pull his arm up. I asked my father (who was a soldier), that what is his oppinion. He agreed with me and said that Moore did it the most realistic way. I think that should be brought back.

Like the one in The Man With the Golden Gun

I'd like to see it go back to the traditional gunbarrel sequence. The gunbarrel in CR worked well in the context of that movie but, now that he is Bond, time to get back to the dancing dots. I'm fine if Kleinman wants to give it an updated look or use the 3D blood again.

Actually.... after reading the first post I started thinking. Why not stick to the CR way of doing things. Start with the PTS... stuff happens and at the end Bond shoots and we have the gunbarrel. I think it would be a cool new style.

Obvoiusly it is also a highly restrictive style - each PTS would have to end with Bond firing his gun. Not really ideal... but it could be done.

Could also go further and simply abandon the idea that Bond has to shoot into the gunbarrel - it could simply be a way to end the PTS and bring on the credits.

Any takers?

I've heard that the Bond 22 is suppose to take place directly where Casino Royale ended, so if they do recreate the gun barrel sequence again, we could see Bond shooting Mr. White in that gun barrel style.

I could go with that, sure.

But I'm personally hoping that Babs and Michael will give Kleinmann the task he's always wanted: redesigning the gunbarrel introduction. He did a sample redesign, which ended up in the TOMORROW NEVER DIES theatrical trailer... I'd be interested in seeing something like that. I loved his redesign for CASINO ROYALE.

Just take the one they used from 1977 to 1989, and create a CG version.

Isn't that what they did from 1995 to 2002, though?

Personally, I hope it takes most of its' style from the original Binder gunbarrel.

They tried to. But they made the dots and gunbarrel too big.

Agree! Also, I think the gunbarrel is more effective if you really cant see Bonds face.

The way I see it, the gunbarrel doesn't have to be explained or built into the actual film. The white dots followed by Bond shooting at the audience is a trademark: EON's Bond. Even if they change everything else it would be nice to keep this.

Kleinman's own 3D-version worked well... in the TND-trailer. I'm glad they didn't use that one for the Brosnanfilms.

Ah, yes; that's right. It made it look rather panned-and-scanned, sadly... :D

I really hope Eon will keep the Gunbarell design, created in Casino Royale, but I really want to have the white dots and Bond walking. The Gunbarell sequence, imo, is a trademark and should ALWAYS be at the start of the movie. We can all make an exception for Casino Royale as it was used for dramatic effect (and most importantly, continuity). But I hope they go back to the traditional way.

ps. Who else thinks Daniel should wear his three piece suit in the gunbarrel and fire his machine gun. :D

Well, I'm not saying I wanted that exact version (though it would have been interesting to have it for one of the films), but I do want something very aesthetically different from the rest of the franchise.

Only if it's really Craig's stuntman.

Well, although Connery's locked-knee position wasn't exactly the best he could have done, Lazenby did the gunbarrel with such coolness and precision that the familiar hat looked right at home on his head. :D

I would like to see the traditional gunbarrel sequence make a return. I loved what they did in CR, but now I think Craig has earned the right to do "the walk."

I'd like to see Craig get to do the traditional gunbarrel. To me, the gunbarrel opening always excited me; it was Bond time again!
I don't mind a reworking of some kind but I'd love it to be the first thing we see.

I loved the rendition of the gunbarrel music that our own Rich Douglas composed. You can find it in the Music forums. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend that you go and listen to it right now! Very well done with the hint of YKMN at the end. I would love Arnold to do something similar with B22's gunbarrel. Or EON should just let Rich do the music instead. :D

David Arnold is doing the music for Bond 22 but I would like to see him do a fresh twist on the gunbarrel music. Just as long as the visuals are traditional.
