Definitely did not expect to read this when I logged onto CBn today.

The one and only Miss Moneypenny.

Roger again shows his class in that radio interview, such a great guy. But did anyone else find it inappropriate that the interviewer is asking Roger, who clearly sounds upset at the news of his old friends death, stupid questions like whether Bond and Moneypenny had sex? Roger sounds like he tries to change the subject an get back to talking about Lois.

The last member of the original triumvirate has passed.

The one and only Miss Moneypenny.

Very sad news and the end of an era.

Farewell to Lois, by all accounts a class act both on and off screen, and destined to be always fondly remembered as an integral and enduring part of the magic. Looking back now, the screen time may not have always amounted to much but it is impossible to imagine the series without her - the mark of a true professional and a special lady.

RIP

Roger Moore embodies class, as once again is shown in his interview.
And I had forgotten that Maxwell had grown up in Canada (she had enlisted as a soldier in the Canadian army)- thankfully no trace of an accent in the films!

I find it incredibly sad when news like this appears. Lois was the definitive icon of Miss Moneypenny. Similar to other actors who will never be forgotten for their famous screen roles. Basil Rathbone, Sean Connery, Clark Gable et. al. You hear their names and immediately remember their scenes and how real they appeared as that character.

Now that is what they call acting.

Sadly, we will probably experience other older Bond alumni passing on in the near future since many are retired and having health issues.

If you are like me, it's the one part of life I hate facing, the death of a person who has made such an impact on your life.

RIP Lois.

This is very tragic news :cooltongue: We have all lost a tremendous woman and fantastic actress - the Bond series wouldn't be what it is today without her. God bless and take care Lois! We love you.

My sympathies for her family, my thoughts are with you.

What horrible, sad, sad, news.

I always used the line "flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying!" to great success.

May she find a place as a Great Angel in Heaven.

I shouldn't be shocked by the death of an 80 year old but was shocked by reading this. Lois was not only a major part of the Bond films (and made a role that could have been nothing into a unforgettable character) but she was also a great ambassador for Bond after she had left.

In a previous post of mine, I had said that the Bond phenomenon was largely based on the outstandingly high quality of everyone involved in the first films. Lois was definitely one of them. This is not the time to make comparisons with her successors. It just suffices to say she was the best.

Condolences to her family and everyone that loved her.

Yes. She was certainly a vital element of the Bond series. No doubt BOND 22 will be dedicated to her in some small part - with or without the inclusion of MONEYPENNY (which seems even less relevant now than it did before Lois Maxwell died).

I thought she looked her best in YOLT, as she was lovely in her naval uniform as she put the breaks on Bond's would-be romantic encounter with Kissy on the ubmarine. They could never replace her, and they should never even try.

I was shocked to hear the news yesterday evening. Lois was wonderful as Moneypenny and will always be fondly remembered by Bond fans. I hope she's given a fitting tribute on the next Bond movie's credits.

Here is Sean Connery's statement on Lois Maxwell's passing, via his MySpace bulletin:

Many will always remember Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, but to say that would be a understatement. I had the pleasure of Lois Maxwell's company when I portrayed James Bond and Lois was a talented actress. Lois occupied only a minute or so in each James Bond movie, but It's not easy to play such a part and be credible for one film, let alone a whole series. Lois proved to have many talents and have a unrequited passion burning inside, which made her invaluable. Such characters are rare today and Lois is worthy of our respect and remembrance.

I had the very real pleasure and honour of speaking for some time with Lois Maxwell in the early 1980s. She was, as others have said, a genuinely nice and funny lady; a real class act in my view. She will, of course, always be remembered as the definitive Moneypenny, but I also like to see her pop up in reruns of stuff like The Saint and Randall & Hopkirk, not to mention hearing her voice in Stingray.

I must admit that I was shocked by the news, and the realisation that she was already 80; it seems only yesterday that I was looking forward to seeing her flirt with James Bond in each new movie. I suddenly feel very old.

I would like to thank Lois Maxwell for all the pleasure she has given me over the years. Her legacy is 14 appearances as Moneypenny over 23 years. That's not a bad legacy to leave - and it's one that will be enjoyed for as long as people continue to wacth James Bond movies. R.I.P Lois.

There has been debates for years who is the best Bond, but start a poll and favorite Moneypenny and we all know Lois would walk it.

One of my favourite stories about Lois Maxwell's time as Moneypenny was an out-take from Octopussy where Moneypenny introduced her new assistant, not as Penelope Smallbone, but rather as
