As everyone else has said, a very, very sad day. One of the things I always notice when I look back at the older Bond films, and a thing not often mentioned as she wasn't a traditional 'Bond girl', is how extraordinarily beautiful Lois Maxwell was. I can't imagine how the role of Moneypenny would have worked without her. Actually, it wouldn't. She made Moneypenny and the character is nearly as well known and loved as Bond himself. There's no better tribute to Lois Maxwell than the work she has done.

Listening to the news today it brings to mind a wonderful story. I was introduced to George Lazenby at a hotel in London near Pinewood. Sitting not far away was Lois Maxwell. George asked me who she was. "Lois Maxwell" I replied. "I have not seen her for 25 years since OHMSS". He walked over to introduce himself. She seemed so pleased to see him. As a old Bond fan I find this news incredible sad. I am so grateful I met her. A legend, part of the original team. Only Connery left. RIP.

I wonder if they'll dedicate Bond 22 to Lois Maxwell - Seems unlikely though.

I guess it's possible since GoldenEye was dedicated to Derek Meddings.

I noticed that Lois' passing made Yahoo's front page news. That's a tribute to her as well as to the Bond series. I do hope that, as someone suggested, EON pays tribute to her in the next movie. Sir Roger implied that she did not get the tributes that she deserved in life. I hope that they can come up with something in the next Bond movie to pay hommage to her.

I'm feeling very depressed now, but as someone mentioned Bernard Lee, Desmond Llewelyn and Lois Maxwell are together again.

Here's an absolutely gorgeous photo of Lois I found online.

At 32, I'm beginning to see what's hardest about growing older. All these great icons and loved ones from our childhoods keep on dying. With each death we all grow infinitely sadder.

I just read about her death on the Web. Being a major Bond fan, I'm in shock. Not only did she appear in all of Connery and Moore's Bond films, she made a few appearances on "THE SAINT" with Moore. They're old friends.

My condolences to her family.

I'm in shock too. Wow, I can't believe it. She was the best Moneypenny. The chemistry she had with Sean, George, and Roger was amazing. She will be missed. R.I.P Ms. Lois Maxwell.

RIP Lois,

Condolences to your immediate family and know that your extended family of Bond fans feels your loss.

The Mower
by Philip Larkin

The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.
Now I had mauled its unobtrusive world
Unmendably. Burial was no help:

Next morning I got up and it did not.
The first day after a death, the new absence
Is always the same; we should be careful

Of each other, we should be kind
While there is still time.

@ Mharkin007: Truly a worthy picture you've choosen.

May the producers dedicate Bond 22 to Louis Maxwell.

M :- "Miss Moneypenny give 007 the password we have agreed with Japanese SIS"
Moneypenny :- "Yes sir. We tried to think of something that you wouldn't forget"
James Bond :- "Yes?"
Moneypenny :- "I...love....you. Repeat it please to make sure you get it"
James Bond :- "Don't worry I get it"
