RIP to the first and best Miss Moneypenny of them. Pamela Salem, Caroline Bliss and Samantha Bond had nothing on you.

We'll miss you, Lois.

It really is very sad i watched Thunderball last night and when she was on screen just like Q i brief moment flickered across my mind where i realized that she too had been lost. Very sad but good tribute by Roger.

We have lost another keeper of the flame in the world of James Bond. Miss Moneypenny was one of the main links in the James Bond chain, and Lois Maxwell was always the lady I pictured when reading the books, regardless of the author. And while we can debate who's the best James Bond until the bomb drops, there's no denying that Lois was the one and only Moneypenny.
RIP and sincerest condolences to her family.

I am quite saddened by this news. She really was the definitive Moneypenny. I'd like to find some of her early films. There are also a couple of great Saint episodes as well. She always had great chemistry with Roger Moore.
My condoleces to her family and friends.

Oh....Moneypenny...

What will we do without you?

Tears are actually falling on my keyboard right now.

She will always be the "gold standard" by which all Moneypenny's are measured.

RIP Lois.

same here, Bryce. for some reason this has hit me hard today. So sad.

Ditto 003.

She was Monneypenny the way Andress was the Bond girl. A standard by which to judge all others.

Quite a lady. She was certainly perfectly cast as Miss Moneypenny. The first time I ever heard the idea of 'M' being a woman was in reading her interview in Pfeiffer/Lisa's book "The Incredible World of 007" where she recalls being informed by Cubby Broccoli that she would no longer be playing Moneypenny. She suggested she stay in the series by playing 'M'. Cubby was taken aback, saying, "well 'M' is traditionally played by a man." To which she replied, "traditionally, the prime minister of England was a man."

Years later, when it was announced that "GoldenEye" would include a female 'M', my first thought was remembering what Lois Maxwell suggested nine years earlier.

This is truly a sad day in Bond fandom. One of the biggest icons of the 007 films is dead. I have to say I was quite shocked and saddened at the news. My thoughts and prayers are with Lois Maxwell's family.

From all accounts that I have read and heard, she was a wonderful, nice, and remarkable lady and one who was very generous to the fans. Lois Maxwell is the definitive Moneypenny and we'll always be grateful to her for that and fondly remember her.

Thanks for the memories Lois. R.I.P.

So sorry to hear of Lois Maxwell's passing. While I only had the, admittedly great, pleasure of seeing her as Miss Moneypenny in the Bond films, her appearance in OHMSS being my favorite, everything I have read about her indicates she was a lovely woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. I wish the very best to her family and friends during the difficult time.

This most recent CBn article on page one is a lovely tribute indeed.

So very nice to hear from Mr. Connery and Mr. Moore. And that Ian Fleming anecdote from Ms. Maxwell herself is a joy.

Lovely thoughts to hold on to.

I was sorry to read of Lois'passing. I had met her at the Spy-Fi Convention in 1993. My wife took some pictures there and I had written her a letter and sent copies of the pictures (in care of the Toronto, Canada newspaper she had done some work for). She responded with a nice handwritten letter and even gave me her address in Canada. I sent her a Christmas card that year, but never tired to write again until a couple of years ago. The letter came back and I later found out she had gone to Australia.

Perhaps it's already been mentioned, but the memorable chemistry between Lois Maxwell and "her Bonds" was so wonderful despite her minimal screentime, and it's something that CAN'T be duplicated. The omission of ANY Moneypenny in CR is so glaring! I think that just might be Miss Maxwell's lasting contribution to the series: She accomplished more in a minute or two than, say, in all of the babbling that went on between Brosnan's Bond and Dench's M ever has. It's not how much one does; it's what one does with the time alotted. Maxwell's Moneypenny made every second count.

Nice pic. I think I would have reversed the guns though. No big deal. Still a nice pic. Lois still wins out as my favorite Moneypenny of all time. Irreplaceable.
