People on the FOX forum are whining about it, but I thought it was fantastic. Especially

So did I. I thought it was very emotional at times. I understand there was some predictability, but you can't have seven different plot twists in the final hour every time either. A great finale and I think many on the Fox forum are missing the point.

What a stupid bitch and I'm talking about Renee Walker. It's bad enough watching Jack Bauer indulge in this barbaric behavior, time after time. Now she decides to get into the act, as well.
And lucky Jack! He gets away with his crimes, thanks to Kim. Tony has to pay the price for trying to get revenge for Michelle's death. Olivia Taylor has to pay the price for getting revenge for her brother's death. I have to listen to Jack moralize about seeking revenge to Tony, yet thestill has not confessed to murdering Nina Myers for Teri's death, or murdering Palmer's killer. Hypocritical prick.
Well, Jack was dying, and he sought forgiveness for his "sins". A lot of people change their ways when they know they are dying.
However, I have a feeling things will change again come next season.

I liked the way they handled her character. Renee had a very bad day and had never been through what Jack had been through. So no surprise there.

The humanization of Tony--with that last unexpectedly explosive scene...
And yes, yes, yes, Walker's brilliantly acted, directed and edited scene where she takes one look at the sneering Wilson (You're out of your league, little girl)...debates for a couple of seconds...then shuts the door to grill him. The look on her face is priceless.
Kim's breakthrough as an active, aggressive, shrewd heroine, no longer daddy's hapless girl.
Jack's near-deathbed visit and his long longed-for sense of forgiveness and redempion.
I can hardly wait for next season.

A solid finale to a solid season. I don't think they could have finished the day any better. Though there were a few lulls, on the whole this was a great year for 24 fans, and makes up for last season completely. I hope season 8 is even better, and that the series will be able to once again reach Season 5 standards.
I thought Season 5 was a little over-the-top with the President being the head villian. I for one was glad to see a strong leader back in that role.
I agree that this was a perfect finale. I don't get what all of the fuss is over on the Fox boards. What did these people want, all chaos to break loose? That would've ruined the whole season for me!
I actually think this may have been the best season of the series. If not, then at least close to Season 2 which I think was my previous best. I think the writers and producers really will have their work cut out for them next season. But hopefully it will at least as good if not better than this season!

- Jack calling for the imam to seek redemption was a wonderful touch.
- The Ethan-Aaron Combo to bring down Olivia was perfect. I hope they both turn up next year in some capacity.
- Kim (and Elisha Cuthbert) has never been better.
- Carlos Bernard's performance confronting Wilson in Episode 24 was incredibly powerful.
- Will Patton (Alan Wilson) as a villain was phenomenally creepy for such short screen time. The smirk he had when Renee was sizing him up was awesome.
- Renee was absolutely fantastic, and I'm delighted she is returning. This season has had some of the best female characters in 24 history. I also think Renee's actions at the end were ambiguous.
- Minor complaint: Alan Wilson should surely have recognised the name Tony Almeida if his past crimes are correct.

Yes he was very good, I hope he makes a Mr.White-style return next year. Interesting that they've left the door open for Tony to come back too. I wonder if after all this, he can work with Jack again. Maybe Tony will have some vital info about something or other that they'll need to use him for.Fantastic finale, and I found it surprisingly emotional. Possibly my favourite season overall, alongside Season 5. A few points which I have:

Vauxhall, do you know which cast members are confirmed as coming back next year? I assume Jack, Renee, and Chloe are a given, but with the move to New York I don't know how that will affect the rest of the cast.

I'm not sure which of these are season regulars and how many are only in a few episodes, but so far I've heard that the following will appear in Season 8 at some point: Jack, Renee, Chloe, Kim, President Taylor, Ethan Kanin, plus Kim's daughter Teri. I'd also assume Aaron Pierce will return to keep up his 100% record, but that's just a guess at the moment.Vauxhall, do you know which cast members are confirmed as coming back next year? I see your point. The problem I had with the Jimmy Smits/Bobby Simone death is that is really did drag out forever. They milked that for one or two more episodes than they needed to. The 24 team did manage to keep this one less drawn out (which was, no doubt, helped by the real time format of 24).Keep thinking back to this magnificent season and finale. The genius of the team, for me, lies much in their ability to borrow yet make new. Jack's prolonged 'fatal' illness is reminiscent of Jimmy Smit's wrenchingly drawn-out death on NYPD Blue. Yet the 24 team found ways to keep Jack active on the way--with one of his better fight scenes occurring only hours before his expected death.

It was good to see Renee take an extreme chance at the end (this is a fantasy world after all), and it sets up the next season very well. Jack will not die, but it will take him a long time to recover. And the good news for him is that he can connect with Kim and try and establish a relationship with his grandchild. So why do I think it wasn't great? Normally the most gripping part of the show is the final moment-Day's 1,2,3,4,and 5 had excellent endings; but this one reminded me of Day 2. I think we will see a mellowed out Jack in Day 8. And hopefully they bust their budget to deliver all the goods in what seems to be the final season of 24.

A good (not great) finale to Day 7 IMO.

I think you're right. Jack must be changed in some fundamental way...without losing his spirit completely. I think we may see Renee getting more and more into the groove of the old Jack. Then, of course, if Renee's killed off...old Jack will be back with a vengeance.
