PS: while it was not up to the par of other 24 seasons, season 6 i think in the long run wont be viewed as badly as most people think it is now.....

Even Kim Bauer, dodge?
I saw her on a recent magazine cover (the name escapes me now) & she looked quite lovely. I'm looking forward to tonight with some giddy anticipation.
Yes, the actress herself is a knockout. Any pain evoked by the mention of Kim's name is caused only by the hapless plotlines the poor thing got involved in. I have no objection to seeing her return if they can steer clear of such miseries from her on.

True, but the justification for the Bush torture memos basically boiled down to, "Hey, if Jack Bauer can do it..."It's just a bloody TV show.Am I the only one who really hates 24 right now? In light of the Bush Administration's disastrous torture policies, Jack Bauer's refusal to feel guilty about "extreme interrogation" puts him in league with Gonzales and his ilk.
Lighten up, get a life and this isn't a political thread, this is entertainment. Besides, Bush is out in a week, so just let it go.
Now on to last night-awesome! Tony's turn is scary, yet I sense something strange is afoot. This has the intrigue from Day 1, and the excitement of Day 2 rolled in. 24 is back! WAHOO!

Totally agree! I've been containing myself to express my contempt for this show, at the risk to be called a bitter man, the one who spoils the fun, or something like that. But this is exactly what I think of "24".True, but the justification for the Bush torture memos basically boiled down to, "Hey, if Jack Bauer can do it..."It's just a bloody TV show.Am I the only one who really hates 24 right now? Besides that, artistically speaking, I find weak and exhausting the trick of keep an eternal tension (I mean, the plot's device of the 'ticking time bomb') without any tiny bit of comic relief- I know that all happens in real time, but after seven seasons it's becoming a little unrealistic-.
P.D.: Anyhow, I admit that I don't have seen too many episodes of "24", just a reasonable amount to form an opinion about that.

Just like real government agents expect to get Aston Martins with ejector seats because James Bond does.
Seriously, I think real agents at that level are smart enough to know that 24 is just a TV show for entertainment and not much like the real world.

Well, I had my doubts, when I heard that some lawyers were applying Bauer's actions as arguments. And when some soldiers admit that they're inspired by "24".True, but the justification for the Bush torture memos basically boiled down to, "Hey, if Jack Bauer can do it..." mad.gif

Nope, I despise it for that very reason. It's not something that should be taken lightly, but unfortunately it HAS by way of mainstream entertainment such as HOSTEL and SAW and various other slasher films.Am I the only one who really hates 24 right now? In light of the Bush Administration's disastrous torture policies, Jack Bauer's refusal to feel guilty about "extreme interrogation" puts him in league with Gonzales and his ilk.

I must admit that I dislike this attitude on the show as well. It's the only fly in the ointment of what seemed to be a pretty good season so far.
I read this 2007 article - "24 - Torture Teacher" - about the torture shown on the series. It was written by Heather Mallick, a Canadian journalist. For a woman that critized the right-wing ideology of the show's creator, Joel Surnow, and the scenes of torture that popped up, she came across as incredibly bigoted. Especially toward Americans. Her summation of how Americans, British and Canadians think made her seem like the worst kind of bigot. I was nauseated by the entire article by the time I finished it.

Question: due to the pressure of a new job, I nodded off for a moment, it seemed: can anybody tell me, using a SPOILER alert, how a certain bad guy ended up in a hospital bed with tubing in his neck?

Hey, it wasn't that bad...
I thought so. That article really pissed me off.

Definitely a great opening & set-up to the season. I also hope the conspiracy thing doesn't get too out of hand. The plot twist was a bit predictable but I'm sure we will be in for a few more anyway!
I'm really digging the change in venue to Washington DC.
One of the plot twists will surely have to do with the surly computer guy who looks to be a mole. That would be too obvious, I think.

Half the fun, for me at least, of watching 24 is playing cat and mouse with the Dream Team. Sometimes we can outguess them--but when they're cooking, now and then, they'll leave us with jaws hanging and with thoughts of 'I can't believe they did that!'

As far as my thoughts on the premiere go... good, but not great. So if this episode really kicks things into gear, then I definitely want to check it out.

I'll have to watch it. I wasn't able to catch it last night.

I'll be interested in hearing if you share my enthusiasm. to be honest, for the first part of last night, I found myself thinking "Well done, good stuff, but maybe Harms is right and it's getting a little bit old..." But then--wow.

So far this reminds me of the 1st season as far as the set up for what is to come. It's good so far, but I hope there is a big payoff coming soon...And what is the deal with
SpoilerThat aside, this is a damn fun ride.
A nice thing about episode 5 was the lack of CTFew - as the Bill/Chloe command centre is destined to be called. I say that not because I dislike the characters, but rather out of relief that this year the writers aren't shoehorning main cast members into episodes where they aren't needed. It's little things like that which are most encouraging.
Overall, another very strong episode. I'd predicted one of the two twists which materialised, but the other came as a shock. I'm finding the Henry Taylor subplot (the twist that I hoped for) to be fantastic.
