1) Jeff Donovan is starring in Clint Eastwood's upcoming The Changeling with Angelina Jolie. This could be the big break this 'overnight success' deserves.
2) He has a black belt in karate and has studied aikido for six years plus a Brazilian martial art for one. No wonder his fight scenes, at best, are so hot.

I'm not sure why but every time I watch this show for some reason I think of Magnum P.I. Is it something I ate or might there be valid reasons?

I agree, and I am very glad to see that the fight choreographer is details oriented, like getting the styles right when the fighter is supposed to be from a specific locality. Two items of interest for BN fans. Per the latest TV Guide:

I just watched the last episode...and found myself wondering about Michael's new Handler. This is either the second or third time that a Handler has sounded like Michael: same inflections, tone, smile. What gives?

I'm not really sure but I had the same impression you did. Maybe they teach them that in spy school?Could someone help me out here? I'm feeling a little confused. And here's why:

I did like the ending of the episode. It had a dramatic edge & really sets up the question of what that item will be used for down the road - possibly the season finale. (Just keeping it spoiler free here.

It's the narrative. Magnum was always more introspective and personal, but Michael is almost a "how to be a spy" type thing. I hope someone compiles all of them into a book somewhere down the line. It's great stuff and expertly delivered. And, based on real world experience gleaned in my own experiences and those of real operatives I've known and met, it's damn well gospel.

Dear Professor,
Thank you. I now have one additional question....I've felt that Michael's accents have been slipping badly the past few episodes. Last week I couldn't tell where the heck he was supposed to be from? I still love the show to pieces but am stumped by this--since Donovan's previously shown a decent flair for accents.
Cheers

His Russian accent was very good. Not sure on his native accent. I keep changing my opinion on this one. At times I thought it was kind of like an Americanized Australian accent but I'm not sure. I've checked around on this one but no definitive answer. For the show, it's probably a combination of accents from where he has lived around the world but it should stay more consistent. In real life, Donovan is from Massachusetts so he probably tries to keep the New England accent to a minimum. Come to think of it, Finoa's accent started as a thick Irish accent but there are times when she has almost no accent at all. Maybe the producers can work on this one.Dear Professor,

They actually explained Fi's lack of accent in episode 2. She did not "want to go around Miami sounding like a freakin' Leprechon"

Actually, as my own accent varies wildly, frequently in mid-sentence (including from Mid-Atlantic, whatever sort Danielle Radcliffe has in the Harry Potter role, and South Eastern US), it strikes me as entirely plausible. I've been told by native Japanese and Mandarin speakers (bear in mind, I'd been hearing the languages in question, results of going in cold would be considerably poorer) is quite good. My suspicion is that anyone who is good with accents would tend to vary their accent unless they were making a very concerted effort to lock it down.

I also hope for a tie-in book with all the advice. I'd love it if they would include the Ask-A-Spy advice on the website as well. Those really are fabulous nuggets of tradecraft.I'm not sure why but every time I watch this show for some reason I think of Magnum P.I. Is it something I ate or might there be valid reasons?

Last season there were 12 episodes. Tonight's episode is #8.I thought I read somewhere that BURN NOTICE would have a split season this year --so many episodes in summer, a hiatus, followed by more episodes in the winter. Anyone else hear this? Anyone know what the episode total is?

So a split season with two blocks of nine episodes each sounds a likely possibility. In any event, I'm sure they'll let us know after next week's episode.

It was nice to see Tim Matheson (he also directed the episode) and Zachery Tyler Bryan (typecast forever as a wuss) in something again.
