I got mine at WalMart. A pleasant consumer purchasing experience. $21.61 (tax inc). I got the $100.00 chip. :cooltongue: The Texas Hold 'Em Rules & Strategy Guide. And the Vacation Royale (Atlantis) ad. And just look what else came with my Casino Royale Exclusive DVD.... :D :)

Why so high of a price? My Wal-Mart was selling the same set for $16.85. If you wanted just the movie it was $13.85.

My opinion on the 2-disc set is this:

1. Great transfer of the actual film. Obviously they opted to compress the film as little as possible in order to get a sharper image. Sound is fantastic and at times I had to adjust the volume before I disturbed my neighborhood.

2. I bought the set with the playing cards. Nice little touch, I already had Bond On Set and the Corgi car looked cheap. Perhaps the reason they added the extra memorabilia to this set is explained in #3.

3. The extras on the 2nd disc is fair. Although I love watching behind the scenes on any film, and CR is no exception, the idea of adding the same trailers that plagued the opening of disc 1 was ridiculous. What happened to the actual trailers to CR? Where is the commentary track and the deleted scenes? And whose idea was it to offer Bond Girls Are Forever again? I bought this special when DAD came out. Although they have gone and updated it with 5 minutes of added interviews with Eva Green and Caterina Murino, I still feel ripped off.

4. The black and white menu vignettes were just plain weird. They made me feel that the producers of this DVD did not put much effort into it. Anyone seeing this film for the first time will probably get a wrong impression. Did anyone feel odd seeing an extreme close-up of Eva and Daniel kissing lips?

If Sony was planning to impress us with this set, they failed. I can only guess that they will release an extended version in a year or two, probably before Bond 22 (see Spiderman 2.1 trailer). Unfortunately for them I will probably view that version on Netflix and not opted to buy it.

Overall grade: B-

Wow, I couldn't agree with you more. Yes, the Behind the Scenes documentaries are really good, but other than that, what is the point of a dual DVD??? I can't understand why they didn't put any of the excellent CR trailers on the DVD. Just plain strange.

I have the $100 chip too. Perhaps it was the "Do I look like I give a damn" martini that came with yours.

Just as a reference, it was $15.86 for just the DVD or $19.96 for the set here in Michigan (prices before tax).

I went out Saturday and picked up the Target set and the Best Buy one to get the Aston Martin. The nearest Circuit City was out of the coins or I'd have probably picked that up as well. I have no idea whether I'll end up keeping these or not. I just got CR fever right now. :cooltongue:

I noticed the $13.99 price tag as well...after I bought it from Best Buy for $16.99. Oh well, it's only money. :cooltongue:

Not sure if these deals are valid beyond the pre-order stage, but for those in the UK...

WHSmith offer a copy of the movie tie-in edition of Casino Royale with pre-order of the DVD.
Asda are selling the DVD for the very good price of

Got mine (Region 2) from Play.com. As usual, they delivered ahead of release date and I got mine Saturday.

I've either dropped lucky with my copy or the Region 2 is fabulous quality. I could not believe the picture/sound quality. For me, both equal the UEs - and I have them all.

Also I don't know if this has been mentioned but Woolworths are doing the DVD with a pack of Casino Royale themed playing cards.

I've been waiting a long time for the DVD to come out and got it a few days ago, but now I feel really disappointed. I was hoping the DVD would contain some of the deleted scenes from the movie or maybe even a commentary of the movie, but it had neither. Does anyone else feel ripped off?

I do feel shafted about the DVD, even though I knew it would have a lackluster set of extras beforehand. I almost wish I'd just stuck with the R3 rip I already had.

You'd think with Sony's Columbia flagship film industry line, they'd pull out all the stops with extras. Instead we get three featurettes and a music video.

Now for those who don't know much about Sony's film lines, here's a basic rundown of the three main branches:

Columbia: Their actual movies.

Sony Pictures Classic: Obscure/Foreign stuff (i.e. Pulp Fiction, Kung-Fu Hustle)

Sony Screen Gems: Stuff they refuse to pre-screen.

I own three of their "refuse to pre-screen" movies: Ultraviolet, Underworld: Evolutions, and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. And all three of them easily have more special features than Casino Royale did.

In this day and age, people like having lots of special features. They may never watch them, but they like them to be there. For a DVD to be good, token stuff like "filmographies" and "trailers" and "only three featurettes" just doesn't cut it anymore. At least throw in some commentary track.

Die Another Day: Perhaps the most unremarkable Bond film in ages, and yet it had more extras than you could shake a stick at. A mountain of extras can redeem a bad film sometimes.

It's Sony, they have a tendancy to piss every fan off a movie series of with the DVD release, then make it alright by releasing a 'double dip' with more extras on a few years later. - Science :cooltongue:

If and when an Ultimate Edition is released there's a possibility that deleted scenes will come along with a commentary by the director.

Well I've finally taken the plunge & got the DVD. I was going to hold off & wait till the 'Special edition' I realised I just couldn't & purchased the special cardboard covered CR. Well I tell you what, Sony must have decieded to spend the money on the transfer rather than the extras. The transfer is lovely, giving the film it's realistic quality, but boy...are the extra's naff. I will be disgusted if within 6 months we get another 'Special Edition' that's worthy of 2 discs

There will be one eventually, but I bet it'll take a little longer than six months for it to be released.
