The Wrongest Day is over. One of the tube's most vigorous and inventive shows stumbled badly this year and the finale, imo, did nothing to salvage a very middling season. The good news is: they used every cliche in the book this time round. Still, their bank of good will is enormous and I hope they use their time off now to map out some fresh new ground and a brand new strategy. I haven't given up on the show by a long shot. I'm just sad to say that I was glad to see this season end. And I'm looking forward all the more to a new batch of Prison Breaks.

I have yet to see the finale and am several episodes behind here in Australia, but the news of a grim faced Jack brooding over the ocean at days end with a silent clock... wow. Cant wait to see it.

What were your impressions Vauxhall?

I'm in the UK, so have only just seen the episode via the internet, but I thought it was a very strong finale for a season which did struggle in the middle section. I had heard many rumours about the final scenes, and as I understand it the writers made far more rewrites than normal to try and finish the season in the best manner. The last two episodes had plenty of action - Bill in particular was fantastic in the field - and the final scenes as Jack tied up some loose ends were just right in my opinion; to me, the silent clock represents the audience feeling "where do we go from here?" - Jack has to move on, and I'm excited about season seven to see what direction the series takes. My immediate thoughts (partially based up on rumours from the US) is that next year could see Jack operating around the Department of Defence, away from CTU. Time will tell :cooltongue:

Cheers Vauxhall. The open endness of the finale leaves it open for new exciting possibilities for 24. I will diligently watch the series and wait for the great finale on the atrocious time of 10.30 here in Australia.

Indeed, I thought this was the perfect end for Jack's day. I no longer see this character as some mindless robot. But, as a human being. I can't wait for day, I feel big things coming. :cooltongue:

I thought the ending was pretty spot on. About the finale as a whole:

Pluses -

-No 'surprise' revelation about Josh being Jack (or Philip's!) son.
-All loose ends now apparently tied up

Minuses -

-Chang lives? And saved by Jack, even? If anyone needed a bullet between his eyes, it was him. We may yet hear the words "Mistah Bowaaaah" uttered again on 24 in the future.
-Mike Doyle blinded? No more Silver spoons next season then? Or he could come back with an eyepatch, Snake Plissken style.
-What was the deal with Milo's brother? I thought that was going to go somewhere, like he was going to flip out, grab a gun, and shoot someone as payback (I was thinking Morris). It was odd when he just vanished, I figured that was setting it up for a surprise later on.

And uhh what was that rumored ending where an old character shows up at the last minute?!

And WEHT Charles Logan!?!?!?!?

I think the rumor about someone thought to be dead returning, was Audrey. Its just that the rumor did not make its way around until after she was shown to be alive.

All in all this season was not as good as the last two. What killed it was that they had everone involded with everyone else. Too much romance. There is no way the government would let someone supervise their spouce.

The biggest eye roller of the season came in last nights final ep. As soon as Chole started to stumbe, my wife said "oh no! They better not make Chloe pregnant!"

That's funny. I felt the same way, Chloe has grown on me over the years.(in a way Kim, never will.) But, I think they went too far with this one.

All I could think of when Stuart (Milo's Brother) disappeared was "Oh no, not again." I would have been pissed if they repeated a relative of a dead agent killing the villian.

Great summary, Vauxhall. A lot of action on the oil platform & maybe the biggest action scene of the series. I was nice to get closure on a lot of the threads so next season can start a basically on a clean slate. Lots of possibilities for next season! I was glad to see Bill back in action. I never really liked the way he was fired from CTU so it was nice to see him play a key part in the ending. I'm also a big fan of the silent ending in this one. It worked perfectly for the scene & the expression on Jack's face.

On the season, I'm middle of the road on it (it just ended so I still need some time for it to sink in). Season 1 is still my favorite.

Did I detect a reference to YOLT last night - it was mentioned that the (never seen) Chinese submarine was heading back to "Ning Po".

Didn't much care for the finale myself, something about it just didn't work for me. It just didn't feel like a real climax should.

I dunno, I think they're more than familiar with Bond over at 24. Some plotlines have been, shall we say "homaged"...

In season 2, the villain detonates a nuclear bomb for the purposes of manipulating the world's oil supply. Hmm!

In season 4, a villain who bears a striking resemblance to a military pilot assassinates said pilot and takes his place.

In season 6, Jack Bauer is released from months of torture in an Asian prison, looking like a caveman.

Any more I missed?

I personally enjoyed the finale immensley. There was some terrific dialogue, the oil rig fight was stunning (watched it in HD, looked incredible) and the last seen leaves endless possibilities (was Jack thinking suicide for a moment?). It was a great end to an OK season.

OK. I'm a few weeks behind in catching up on my '24' recordings. I checked my recording of the 2-hr finally and only recorded the first hour. Does anyone know if it will be shown again, or would anyone like to do a trade for a copy of it? I have CR coverage to trade or other video also. Thanks.

Two quick options for you are to watch it on the Fox homepage for free or you can buy it for $1.99 from iTunes. If you search hard enough, you might find some other free options as well. :cooltongue:

There really wasnt much you could do with this season. Six years will take its toll on any show but I'm not going to say this was the worst season of 24 but it did have some fresh takes on old tricks (CTU keeping Jack in custody when they do a mission so he doesnt go rogue as we all know he will)

The end of Day 6 really did mark the end of the Jack Bauer killer character. He has done nothing but serve his country and has never been repaid for it. He's lost his wife, Audrey's gone aboslutely loco, Kim won't even talk to him anymore, all of his friends except Chloe are dead or forced to resign. Seriously... what does Jack Bauer have to live for? I was fully expecting him to jump off the cliff at the end to give us the old twist ending like they ALWAYS pull but no they didnt.

Still 24's given me a lot of enjoyment over the years so I'm not writing it off. I mean if I gave up on Bond after Die Another Day then I'd be kicking myself for not being there for Casino Royale. Hopefully Day 7 will be the "Casino Royale" of 24.

I'll rank em as Day 1, Day 4, Day 5, Day 3, Day 6 then Day 2. I'd go into the reasons why but everyone has their reasons for liking something!

Predictions for Day 7 anyone?

QUICK EDIT: This is from TV guide. I know its talking about Day 7 and this is a Season 6 thread but I think it'd be WAYY to early to start a "24: Day 7" thread... well at least on a Bond site!

COEXECUTIVE PRODUCER MANNY COTO SAYS: Jack [Kiefer Sutherland]starts next season in a very different place than any season so far. Let's put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if there's no CTU next year. CTU has become almost too comfortable, you know? "We need to carry out this operation - Chloe, grab Satellite X and get us a feed!" That's gone. We're pulling the rug out from under our characters. It's a pretty radical shift - a totally different context with a totally different villain. There will not be a ticking clock on a nuclear device. We're hewing much closer to real life: tighter, more personal, more difficult for Jack. There may even be a plot thread that doesn't take place on U.S. soil. In a sense, it's a reboot - in location and personnel. We're going to be introducing a new stable of characters, along with a couple of old ones. Jack's not living under an alias. He's found a place he thinks he belongs and a job he enjoys doing that doesn't involve the government. What's also refreshing is the choice of villain: it's not a Muslim terrorist. In fact, it's not a terrorist at all. And the character is fascinating, someone with a supremely dark past who's done something horrific. And whose ambition is to regain his stature in the world. I just can't say enough how exciting it is, it's going to be pretty damn cool.

Thanks for posting that, you saved me the time! Might we be getting a spinoff on the Telly Savalas Blofeld, who simply wanted a counthood in exchange for not ruining the world? The producers have been listening to someone--and it's pleasant to think it was us: new location(s)...new plotline (not another ticking bomb, thank god)...maybe goodbye to CTU and even the White House for now...And, jeez, what's this--downbeat Jack even having a job he enjoys? a love life? Be good to see him happy...if just for an hour or two.

Good find on that TV Guide article. I had heard that they were taking a different track on the show for Day 7. A change of scenery will be nice, I was kinda tired of the same old LA back drop. Hopefully we will still get to see Jack break some skulls, even with his new found contentment.

I have liked Mike Doyle and Tom Lennox this season, but I still think that season five is much better!! From various media reports, it seems that season seven will lead to a big overhaul of the programme, meaning that only Jack will return out of the current cast - but guess we shall wait and see!

Hmm, it'd be a shame if its only Jack who comes back next season, we already had the huge purging of the supporting cast last season with David Palmer, Tony, and Michelle all bumped off in quick succession. Hopefully season 7 will have Bauer leading his own hand-picked team of people he can trust, with Chloe, Mike Doyle, Nadia (gotta keep the budding non-romance between those two!), and some other new guy who will turn out to be a mole.

And Noah Daniels must be president next season, Powers Boothe has been fantastic ("We're gonna go to war over a piece of circuitry?")

That was one of the major complaints this season, is that Jack and doofy Chloe were the only "long term characters" left on the show. Also, another problem was the writing and character development, too much focusing on Jack and Jack's family and under-developed characters. Getting rid of CTU next season and making Jack the only character again isn't going to solve anything, what solves it, here's a thought: GOOD WRITING. 24 died in day 5 with Tony Almeida and David Palmer and became the Jack Bauer show.

You say that, but my own feeling is that Season One was the most focussed on Jack and his personal struggles. From then on, the plots became bigger with the United States being targetted. I think bringing the series back to a more personal level for Jack, and away from massive terrorist plots, could be an interesting choice of direction.

Well, some season 7 news:

24 is in delayed production for 1 month re: Season 7

Some parts of season 7 were to be in Africa, but since the money can't fit, the writers have scrapped the season and are starting over. BUt how cool would that be? Jack Bauer in Africa, eliminating the violence in Darfur, illegal diamond trading, and famine.

Oh, and I have more stuff on season 7-Jack is out of CTU? It looks like it, but if you ask me, can you see Bond out of the British Secret Service? No, put Jack back at CTU-but give him a new job in it. That's my thoughts anyway.

Season 6 available in the US on DVD Dec 4

Nadia and Chloe are still hot, btw!

Well, Africa or Portugal, they're starting to think now outside of the box. Imagine (per other reports): no CTU...perhaps a female president...Jack working as a gigolo (well, I made that one up)...

There will be a female President on the next season of 24. According to the Hollywood Reporter (I caught the link on Drudge), Cherry Jones will play the new President.

I guess this means Day 7 takes place 4 years after Day 6

Miss Jones has appeared in Ocean's 12, and bears some (slight) resemblance to Sen Hillary Clinton
