However, it's a great advertisement for region-free DVD players. Glad I bought one years ago. Since I already own the SE's, maybe this is one boycott that might take off...

The menus sucked royally and very time consuming as you can't skip them and goto main piont. The covers were also tastlessly designed and the only thing I loved were the deleted scenes and Goldeneye documenteries all others were nothing special.

Whoah! $90.00 for each set. With CR, it'll cost almost $400 to get all 21 dvds.
You know, do I really need to buy these again?
[/quote]
In a word, yes. The Ultimate Editions may not be quite as "ultimate" as all that, but they're nonetheless well worth it for Bond fans as hardcore as thee (and me). Some of the restorations aren't anything to write home about, but with other films (including your favourite, MOONRAKER) the leap in quality from SE to UE is akin to the difference between VHS and DVD. No, really./quote]
I agree; although I'd go further because I think all the films look better on the UE; but some are just awesome. I agree about Moonraker; the picture/sound quality just about take your breath away. And the odler ones (especially Dr. No) look like they were shot yesterday.
Why they are being released like this in the States beggars belief. And it's a shame you're missing the case, because, as I've posted elsewhere, that in itself is a thing of beauty and not the usual corporate tat.

I seriously doubt it they'll be sold individually. It seems the whole idea behind the crazy order of the boxes is that you have to buy Golden Gun to get Goldfiner, and Die Another Day to get Thunderball, etc.
That's what it's beginning to look like. Only five films pre box set is ridiculous.

Here's an f.y.i to any who are interested, you can get a really decent Multi region/Code free DVD player online for around $200.00 inc delivery.
Here's another f.y.i, I truly think that Daniel Craig is going be such a knock out!, I think that Cubby is smiling from ear to ear.

I'll still be picking these up, but I really wish I had a region-free DVD player.

I'm not buying them. All I really wanted is DN through TB anyway, just to see the improved picture and hear the improved sound.
No, that's not true. I'm lying. I want them all.

So they've turned off the ordinary consumer who'd like his favorite film, and they've turned off a hardcore fan who would buy the whole set if it were offered to him now.
Guess it's all about greed (if you want Goldfinger and Thunderball, you have to buy 2 box sets -- $180 please), and about selling sets as Christmas presents which, as I said, is some old fashioned thinking.
Why to

Yep, me too. Warner gets my cash this fall.Well then I will feel no shame in blowing all my money on the Superman DVD collection instead.
You know, it's funny, but if the news was of a monster box on Amazon, even at a high price, I would click pre-order today and that would be it. I would have my Bond DVDs and they would have my money. But asking me to wait is also asking me to think twice.

Same here...looks like a click over to Amazon UK is in order.

This is the worst Bond news for some time... Starting to look like I'll be skipping the Ultimate editions altogether... Can't be all that long until they release an HD/Blu-Ray version...
Oh yeah you know that's coming. They'll put out the standard DVDs in Nov and May, and then put them on moratorium after a couple of months...so when May 08 rolls around and Bond 22 hits theatres, its time for the Really Ultimate blu-ray editions
Sony honestly can't afford to wait that long. They're in the middle of a format war here. Bond is one of their biggest assets. I highly doubt they'd wait that long. 2007 around the time Casino Royale gets released on "home video" that's when it'll happen - at the latest. That's when it should happen.
One of the main reasons (or so some analysts believe) that Sony bought MGM was to get their hands on Bond for this very reason. 2008? Blu-ray could be dead by then. PlayStation 3 does not have the strength (currently) to pull off the victory alone - they blew their biggest advantage right there and will most likely lose a lot of market share because of it and not just video games, but in this media war, and to Microsoft for control of the living room - Microsoft didn't get into the console game biz to compete and profit, they did it to stop Sony from taking over the living room. MS isn't even close to breaking even. I don't think Sony is looking too good here. They're bleeding as it is and the forecast looks rather grim. I'm thinking Bond may once again become the crutch of another major corporation until they get their act together.
I seriously doubt it they'll be sold individually. It seems the whole idea behind the crazy order of the boxes is that you have to buy Golden Gun to get Goldfiner, and Die Another Day to get Thunderball, etc.
They'll be sold individually. They did it the previous times and they're doing it overseas now. Of course..... I honestly didn't think they'd be this stupid to go this route again. So who can say?

And even I, the hardest of the hardcore, have serious reservations about collecting the full set if it's going to cost me $400.
I'll say it again, though: $360 seems a real bargain for all 20 Bonds. In the UK, you'd be looking at paying about $100 more than that for the monster box set. Or maybe DVDs tend to cost less in the States than they do in the UK and I'm just used to the extortionate prices of what we refer to over here as "ripoff Britain".

I find the case a bit of a disappointment, although it's certainly no POS. It's just a bit.... boring. Not that I expect it to be anything other than, well, a case, but remember that really rather far-out planned design for the packaging that was featured on some fansites a couple of years ago?
http://www.dvdactive...james-bond.html
Now, like it or loathe it, they clearly put in some effort with that, and it was undeniably something new, something worth collecting. The case is just rather safe, conservative and unimaginative - I also find it a letdown that the discs inside are packaged in exactly the same way as if you'd bought them individually. They could at least have given us exclusive artwork for the box set.

This is distressing to hear from a fan of your caliber. The really sad part is it likely won't send a message to the geniuses who made the decision. Is there any set of genre fans who suffer through marketing and merchandising issues as Bond fans? This whole mixed 5 box set thing is old fashioned thinking. They should be released individually for these who want to pick their favs, and in one box set (at a high but reasonable cost) for the hardcore. Just like they're doing in the UK. No ordinary consumer is going to pay $90 for one of these boxes just so they can to get one old Bond film--which is shown on Spike every month anyway. And even I, the hardest of the hardcore, have serious reservations about collecting the full set if it's going to cost me $400. And with a long wait between boxes...I'm starting to think I need to wait and see what's going to happen with Blue-Ray and just rent these new discs on Netflix for now.
So they've turned off the ordinary consumer who'd like his favorite film, and they've turned off a hardcore fan who would buy the whole set if it were offered to him now.

Why toup, MGM Home Video.
I would really like to understand the thinking behind this move on MGM or Sony or whoever is responsible for this. Why is the Region 2 market able to have this full box, while Region 1 is split this way? Wouldn't you think somebody in the marketing department would be monitoring sites like this to gauge fan reaction and know maybe a complete box set is the way to go for the hardcore fans?
The Digitial Bits DVD Web site sometimes has live chats with people from various studios. It would be interesting to get their answer. Then again, it may be a completely goofy answer.
What would be really annoying is if they put out these four separate boxes and THEN decide to offer a special set with everything in it.

They probably have statistics somewhere saying that someone who is a casual fan of Bond and really likes (ex) Sean Connery will purchase a couple other Bond films that they probably wouldn't normally buy if sold in the collectors set. They've done it at least twice before to my knowledge. I don't deny that this is true, but clearly they're alienating their customers which can't be good either.
