Check out the link, on Nov 7 there will be 2 sets of 5 films released in the US. Grrr...why? No attache case is one thing, but only putting out half the films at once?!? (Presumably the other half will be out right around April/May to coincide with the CR DVD). I KNEW the US release of these discs would be messed up somehow :)

[censored]ing [censored]!!! They pulled this crap with the last U.S. release.

I bet we won't see the full set until well into 2007.

This sucks! :P

God. Well that's all [censored]ed up then. Just like pretty much every other US DVD release.

Whoah! $90.00 for each set. With CR, it'll cost almost $400 to get all 21 dvds.

You know, do I really need to buy these again?

Thank goodness for region-free DVD players.

This is messed up, but not really a surprise at all.

It's nice to see the States getting [censored]ed over on this again. I'm so sick of these random 'collectors' boxes. I mean God forbid they sell them either all at once or in a chronological or ..hell... "logical" order, but no.

I may hold off on buying now. Total let down.

I'm thinking the same thing. I think I may just blow my money on something else.

Yeah, that really sucks. I'm wondering how big a discount we'll see on sites like amazon.

Usually it's around 25% but that's still about $70 per set.

Well bear in mind that's the 'suggested' retail price, these things are always listed higher than they actually sell for. If you scroll down, it lists the retail price of Mission Impossible 3 as 29.99, yet we all know it'll be available for about $15.99 in its first week at least.
I'd expect to see a real price of $49.99 or $59.99 on these (perhaps with a buy both sets and save $10 offer at whichever store wants to sell them aggressively), and no doubt Best Buy and/or Circuit City will have some kind of "Free Casino Royale preview DVD with purchase".

I remember getting an awesome deal on the Universal Hitchcock set off of amazon a year or so ago, so I'm hoping for the same here. :)

That's not bad though. 14/15 bucks per DVD. Die Another Day is on sale for 13 bucks right now at Amazon. So.. decent comparison.

I don't have them all on DVD. Just one random set (DN, GF, TMWTGG, TSWLM, LTK, GE, TND) that someone bought me and the rest of the Brosnan films which I bought. I have them all on VHS though, so this is probably a must for me considering I dislike the quality of the DVDs I have, but I may wait for the entire thing or when they come down in price now. I had previously intended to buy them all right away. I just don't want to put up with this random collection [censored].

Well I do sort of understand the reasons for mixing them up in random order. Everyone would buy a Connery set, not everyone would buy the Moore set, and not everyone would buy the Brosnan/Tim/Laz set.

But what's wrong with letting people buy them all at once? The alternative here is that people are just going to buy the Connery's individually. So there really isn't much of an advantage to this random collector's sets. They probably have data to the contrary, but this is exactly what I would do if I was only a fan of Connery's and none of the others.

I don't know why they aren't going to put all the films out at once. As I hinted above, I suspect we'll get the second lot at around May when the CR DVD hits (with some 007 in 2007 promotion, perhaps). Every other region gets all 20 films at once in a nice collector's case; we get a half-assed release. I don't understand it.

In a word, yes. The Ultimate Editions may not be quite as "ultimate" as all that, but they're nonetheless well worth it for Bond fans as hardcore as thee (and me). Some of the restorations aren't anything to write home about, but with other films (including your favourite, MOONRAKER) the leap in quality from SE to UE is akin to the difference between VHS and DVD. No, really.

And $400 is a bit less than you'd probably spend in the UK picking 'em up, whether you went for the one-by-one campaign or the in-one-fell-swoop box set option.

But I just don't understand why "you guys" can only buy 'em in these apparently randomly slapped-together five-film sets. I gather it's the same thing in Japan. Seems really weird. I suppose there must be some logic behind it, but I can't see what it might be. Why not offer the consumer the choice of buying the films individually and going for a monster box set? Why this curiously-compiled Mickey Mouse box set business?

(I believe the Fleming reissues were also published in instalments Stateside, whereas in Blighty you could go and buy the lot right from day one. Is it some kind of cultural thing? :) )

I was worried about this and only consider it a minor annoyance. I only have a select few of the original DVDs I bought individually, so I'm still excited to get the rest (and the ones I already have again in "Ultimite" format).

This is the worst Bond news for some time... Starting to look like I'll be skipping the Ultimate editions altogether... Can't be all that long until they release an HD/Blu-Ray version...

Oh yeah you know that's coming. They'll put out the standard DVDs in Nov and May, and then put them on moratorium after a couple of months...so when May 08 rolls around and Bond 22 hits theatres, its time for the Really Ultimate blu-ray editions :)

DVD Empire has them up for pre-order for $62.98 each. I bet Deep Discount DVD will have them for $50-55 or so. In that case, we're looking at about $200-$250 for all 4 sets... that's not too bad.

I should also add that Deep Discount does their 20% off sale at the end of November, so if you wait a few weeks longer than Nov 7th you can get a pretty decent price.

I feel sorry for you guy's over in the USA. I just don't know why you should have to wait, and have to pay so much for these new DVDs considering as you made them possible in the first place. (Lowry Digital)

Hopefully, the extra 'bucks' you are paying for gives you more that we Brit's have.

The UE's are pretty good, but they've got a long way to go before I can say they're the 'ultimate'.

Cheers,

Ian

Interesting, but I bet on the first week of release, one of the major retail stores (Best buy, Circuit City, Target etc) has them for around the same price, and as I mentioned earlier, probably with some kind of promo preview disc for Casino Royale. I guess we'll see later on; if I hate the prices I can always ask Santa for them :)

Whoever is in charge of marketing and sales of Bond dvd's in the USA is really unworthy of his/her job. Could they have mucked this up worse if they tried? What a joke. But not funny. Grr.

Someone should start a boycott...

Yep! Whereas they were all released at one point in 2002...they had to draw it all out through 2002, 2003, and 2004 to reprint 14 books.

The US really blows sometimes when it comes to Bond releases.

This may sound like a silly question, but we can still get those 10 individually, right? If so, I'll just forgo the box-set (I refuse to pay money for a collection three-tenths of which is DAF, AVTAK, and DAD) and pick up the Daltons for now. If I like those, I'll go for the first four Connerys and OHMSS when I get the chance. Expand from there if I have money to kick around.
