I wasn't expecting Mikkelson to look anything like this. But this is just fantastic.
Looks like we truly are getting the faithful adaptation we've been promised. I truly can not wait.

Marilyn Manson, anyone?
Mads Mikkelson looks very creepy. Exactly the way a Bond villain should look!
My thoughts exactly...

Apparently no Marseilles accent--this is how Mikkelsen describes Le Chiffre in the Aftonbladet interview:What's his voice like? Is it deep, menacing or what? I picture Le Chiffre with a slightly deep, slow and slightly rough (smokers) voice, of course with that Marseilles accent (but I am sure Mads could act that well enough).
"A mysterious person. No family. Presumably he comes from Montenegro or Albania. He is a maths genius and has shady dealings with terrorists."

Swedish newspaper claims in this article that they are the only swedish newspaper to visit the Prauge set of CR and have a talk with Mads Mikkelsen. Their article is shown with this picture. The makeup and hair AND scar is quite similar. This can in fact be the Le Chiffre look. Think he looks better on "my" picture though, not as pale as the other one and a bit less lipstick :-)
Oh, found this one also! Case closed I'd say.
I like the "dead eye." This version doesn't make it look like he's wearing lipstick.

Looks great to me. Bond villain stuff. Like Zao, a tad, but without the stupid diamonds in his face
And er, not Chinese? Hair? lol
Or North Korean, even.
His character was (as far as we know) but the actor, Rick Yune, was Chinese.

A real sleazeball for a villain will be a nice change of pace, but I do hope they drop the lipstick. The "dead eye" is gimmick enough, and along with the mussy hair, pale face, and hopefully (at least slightly) overweight physique, should seal the deal without making a cartoon of him.

I've not seen the TV version - but I thought of Lorre as well.
Very wormy looking! Kind of reminds me of Peter Lorre (who I always pictured as Le Chiffre -- probably from seeing the orignal TV version of CR).I think it is the eyes. Good look for Le Chiffre BTW - I''m not against Bond Villains having a slightly "supernatural" vibe - not literally I mean, but something to show that they are not just your run of the mill gangster. Its a classic tradition that its good to see even this apparently iconclastic CR may still uphold
The TV version (which is public domain) is available on ebay. It's really worth seeing, if nothing else for grins. James Bond is now Jimmy Bond and is American (Felix Leiter is, in turn, British). It's extremely loyal to the book, complete with torture scene (although being 1957 TV, they don't beat his privates).

That is the kind of style I have imagined Le Chiffre to have (minus the overweight).

I belive Rick Yune is indeed Korean. It was his North Korean character of Zao that was strange in that Zao is a Chinese name, not Korean.

I think that these two pictures look much better than the first one. If he looks like he does in these two pictures, then he'll be fine. I think that he was a bit too pale in the first picture and he had a bit too much lipstick on, but with these two pictures, the paleness isn't as overdone and his lips don't stick out as much.

I hope that's not his CR make-up. He looks like Michael Jackson.
That or Johnny Depp in Scissorhands/Wonka form... but I'm still a fan of the look.

I always pictured Brendan Gleeson when I read it, but this guy looks the part. When I saw the scar, I thought they were going gimmick again, like Zao, but if you think about it, the gimmicks are only disappointing when the characters are disappointing. What's important above all is that he has a strong, memorable character.
I'm hoping also that he looks more than a mere 4 years older than Craig on film, mostly because I'm hoping that they keep his brief "Red Indians" monologue (which would probably be re-written as "cowboys and Indians"; I know it's not PC, but remember it comes from the mouth of the villain.)
