It looks cool, but I think he would look much better without the lipstick.
as I said earlier, le chiffre in the book has big, red , wet lips and pale skin. Doll like eyes too.

Like the scar, very retro-Bond (Blofeld from YOLT, anyone...?).
indeed, you beat me.

Mads Mikkelson looks very creepy. Exactly the way a Bond villain should look!

Looks great to me. Bond villain stuff. Like Zao, a tad, but without the stupid diamonds in his face
And er, not Chinese? Hair? lol

As a HUGE Mikkelsen fan, I must say, I've never seen him look creepier!! I love it!!
For those of you who are not familiar with him, don't be surprised if steals the show!! He has a tendency to do that, even in very minor roles.

A good Bond villain should be on par with 007 in holding the screen, sometimes making Bond appear weak, until he eventually defeats them

What's his voice like? Is it deep, menacing or what? I picture Le Chiffre with a slightly deep, slow and slightly rough (smokers) voice, of course with that Marseilles accent (but I am sure Mads could act that well enough).

I get a very frightning vibe from the lad, something I've never had from any Bond-villain before.

AVOID ANYTHING REMOTELY CARTOONISH!

I don't think it's overly cartoonish such as the other characters. What concerns me is the lazy critics, or tabloid journalists, who will bring up how he is a repeat of the YOLT Blofeld or, worse, Dr. EvilThis is the first publicity shot I have seen that I didn't care for. I like my Bond villians a bit more realistic. Yes many have an oddity but I prefer the eye patch of Largo or the weight of Goldfinger, but the eye scars have been done too death (Blofeld in YOLT, Renard in TWINE, etc) and too much makeup is distracting. Please EON, every few minutes please recite this phrase:
AVOID ANYTHING REMOTELY CARTOONISH!

It's not just a scar, it seems to be a glass eye, which has never been done in a Bond film.

It's probably just the picture, though. He should make a really good Le Chiffre. Besides, all the other pictures of him are pretty badass, so I'm looking forward to seeing where this all goes.

Anyway, I'll add this:
They have died his hair reddish brown. This is another indication that they are trying their best to keep to the novel as much as is possible. I have also heard this from script reviews.

Yes, His voice is smooth and a bit deep, and when he speaks English he has a very nice accent, not a Marseilles accent, but like you said he should be able to pull that off with no problem. And he apparently smokes like a chimney, so that may help some. I actually met him last fall at the Toronto Film Festival and I don't remember him sounding all that rough though....his voice was very soothing and as I said, a very nice accent.

I've not seen the TV version - but I thought of Lorre as well.Very wormy looking! Kind of reminds me of Peter Lorre (who I always pictured as Le Chiffre -- probably from seeing the orignal TV version of CR).

As far as the lipstick goes, when combined with the rest of his look, I get a Goth/metrosexual vibe. And with the novel Le Chiffre being a sleazy owner of several brothels, I can see where EON might be trying to make their Le Chiffre sleazy looking enough to where it would be believable that his character would own all sorts of places of ill repute. I also wouldn't be surprised if EON includes in Le Chiffre's background--particularly with regards to the torture scene--that he is also heavily into S&M--which would certainly give new meaning to the phrase getting your rocks off.

Regardless, this is certainly turning out to be an interesting looking film.
