Well, the Russian spacecraft is inside the SPECTRE ship so it might be a bit cooler - doesn't have to use its own heat shield. "Bird 1" on the other hand would be red hot I imagine. As a kid I thought it pretty smart at the time, a rocket base inside a volcano but if you think too hard about how it all works - a spacecraft landing without parachutes and with pinpoint accuracy back in the place it took off from - nobody could do that in real life at the time.
But then it's best not to think too hard about these things!
