Women! Setting impossible bars for us common mortal men to reach. When a man is macho they say he should be more in touch with his feminine side, and when he is sensitive they say he should boss them around more! You just can't please them!

Yes, you can!

You can please this writer!

Just give her TIMOTHY DALTON!!!!! :)

we DO get the point AnGer! :)
speaking of which, let's turn the question on you guys.. I'm curious to know. Who would you want as Vesper Lynd and why? We'll compare women's and men's views on this.
Vesper must be beautiful, but very self-confident and mysterious at the same time. To me she also has that sort of "timeless" charm and grace that very little women manage to have. I think Elizabeth Taylor, or Vivien Leigh would've portrayed her wonderfully!
but we have to pick someone from nowadays...
Spy has already ruled out Keira Knightley whom I thought could've been nice as Vesper, so I take his word for it and settle on another one.
Can't help thinking about Ashley (Judd), whom I just LOVE.
And what about Winona Ryder?? too popular huh?? darn. lol :)
Diane Kruger?
just please, I beg you: NO Angelina Jolie!! :)

View Post

Vesper Lynd? I honestly don't know. No-one really well known at all. I'd ideally like another Lucianna Paluzzi-type or an unfamous Famke Janssen. That would be my ideal Vesper - someone not American and not British either, but European. Definitely not Knightley or Judd. And Jolie? Well, not in one of my nine lifetimes! :)

Kruger? Hmm - I'd rather save her for another film and have a dark-haired Vesper.

I wouldn't mind someone like Monica Belluci, but perhaps simply someone like her, but not her per se.

Now Welshcat darling.
you don't know about Vesper Lynd, but you DO dream of Pierce being back as a mentor to the new Bond?!?!
must do something to fix your dreams here! :)
Many mention Monica Bellucci as Vesper.. well I'm Italian (So I'm all for promoting my country's actresses) and I think she's gorgeous, but seriously: the woman CANNOT act at all!!!! especially in English!!!
Same applies to Cucinotta (I still have to understand why they chose her for Bond, just beyond me..). You want an Italian beauty to play Vesper, and unknown to the big public?
then go for Giovanna Mezzogiorno! She's a dam fine actress.. and her looks are both sexy

Very nice. :) I'd really prefer they get someone English, though - Vesper Lynd is a very English-sounding name (if it's anything) and the whole point is she's an MI6 agent, so how can she be any other nationality, anyway? :)

:) Wow! She looks gorgeous! That's how I'd like Vesper to look like, not any of these British or American actresses. I've never heard or seen this Giovanna before, so that's a good thing. I want to be able to see a Bond girl on screen for the first time and think "wow, who is that girl?" not "groan, not HER again! This ubiquitous Hollywood actress is simply interfering with the part."

Great find! Now if only Sony/EON would take notice.

And I'd like to clarify for those of you wondering about Alessandra's reference to dreaming of Brosnan - that was an actual dream over which I had no control, not any yearning on my part to see Brozza back in the role. You can read about the bizarre nightmare version of CR here:

I like Heike Makatsch; http://www.kabel1.de...era_2004/17.jpg. I just saw her in Love Actually this week. She's odd looking, beautiful, captivating, not the ordinary beauty. I really like her, I think it would be an off-beat and interesting choice. Sort of the total opposite of a Knieghtly (too skinny and cute) or Sienna Miller; someone unexpected.

Isn't Vespa the Italian word for Wasp? Alessandra will be able to clarify that for us. Whatever the case, Vesper sounds more exotic and continental than a mere British name, even if there is a British word like that.

Of course Welshcat darling, Vespa means WASP! :)
I am very glad you did like Mezzogiorno.. I don't know why I never thought about her... she really is a very good actress, and yes I agree.. GORGEOUS.
She has the guts, and the looks. Would be very good. Of course that is only IF you want a foreigner playing the part, or if you ACCEPT a foreigner playing the part.
I will make sure I send Eon/Sony a picture of the girl. And then have her pay me a fee if she does get cast! lol :)
I perfectly understand Spy's feelings in prefering an English lady. Although I don't think Mezzogiorno has features which can definitely identify her as Italian? (Aside from being beautiful and classy of course LOL :))

Here goes:

Catherine Zeta-Jones (Kinda looks like the woman on the paerback re-release)
Monica Belucci

Emilia Fox-I think bears some resemblance to Rhona Mitra, which brings me to-

it's very interesting to see how you all have a number of different picks. Means you guys see very different features in Vesper, which I find cute. Men DO pay attention to details... when a gorgeous woman is involved! lol :)
aahh thank you so much hcmv for your sentence on Jolie, *SMACK*! lol :)
I seriously cannot stand the girl, in Italian we say "e' una questione di pelle", it's a "skin" thing.. just the thought of her makes me nervous! lol :)
I already said I liked Zeta-Jones. No Bellucci but Mezzogiorno. All the others, very interesting picks.
so explain us your WOW for Rhona Mitra! :)

Rhona Mitra? :) Hmmm. That's a bit like picking Jolie, isn't it? They both have their associations with Lara Croft. While I acknowledge that Bond might be fittingly called "Womb Raider", I think Daniel Craig needs to shake off any of that kind of association when playing Bond.

As for Zeta-Jones - well, maybe a few years ago she might've been suitable, but isn't she looking more and more maternal these days? More like Dylan's mum than the sleek, sexy spy.

Regrettably true -- but I felt that comment could only originate with one born under the banner of Wales.

I like odd looking beauties much better, actually, especially for Vesper. So many beautiful women are virtually interchangeable. Can you really tell Julia Stiles, Reese Witherspoon, Erika Christensen, and Estella Warren apart without squinting? I think most of history's amazing beauties have been off-beat.

She is breathtaking! And she does fit the book's description of Vesper: "Her eyes were wide apart and deep blue . . . "; "the clear and beautiful line of her jaw."

I particularly like the upper of the two pictures which you posted.

Without being branded too sexist, let's just say I ain't gonna kick her out of the hot tub. Or, well you get the picture

I have had a crush on her for quite a while. The fact that she was the basis (or so the urban legend goes) for Lara Croft hasn't hurt her too much in my eyes. The way she is, um proportioned is perfect, and she can play the mean girl part well. I think her recent work on Nip/Tuck is outstanding, and she is an improving actress.

That being said, I also like your pick, Alessandra of Mezzogiorno. But I would prefer a British actress, if possible for the part.

I agree. she has a very intense look...
and I LOVE the red dress one that welshcat posted! :)
the good thing about her is that, unlike Bellucci and Cucinotta, she is a VERY good actress.
the thing with her, is that she can either look perfect or look like a complete mess without any problem.. which I think is very useful when playing a lady in action like Vesper! :)

Of course you are correct, Kara. And, for that very reason, I would be extremely surprised if more than one of the four you have mentioned will still be around in ten years' time. It is character, it is personality, it is talent, which augments initial beauty, and makes it all the more radiant. When none of those qualities is present, surface beauty tends to fade.

Same with a man, too.

As my mother always told me, "If you fall in love with a good-looking guy -- he's only going to get worse!"

That would be Flicka - A tried and true kick-butt-spy-chick. She's notorious for climbing things late at night - The smoke stacks of the Queen Mary in Long Beach, the dome roof of the Waldorf in New York, Limo's, Pyramids etc...

Here's something for all the guys who have visited this thread. She's a great partner in crime.

The "Amstel Ad" with her and Athena could sell a million bottles. :)

Actually, given all this casting talk, Flicka would be a great Vesper.

Hey, just looking at these pics of Giovanna Mezzogiorno again, don't they seem to resemble Dalton Wendy's avatar a little bit? (I realise her avatar is actually Liz Hurley but that's an atypical pic of Hurley which doesn't look so much like her). Perhaps it's the hairstyle or hair colour?
