It doesn't have to be trash, but a little more romance every now and again wouldn't go amiss. I loved Hitch's story. It was very good, very well written. If more were of that style, Bond would have a few more female fans. It was especially good because I could picture Tim perfectly. Hitch had me hooked and it was only a few paragraphs long.

One of my favourite Bond relationships is with Kara Milovy and I think that is becaues there is some gentle wooing and tenderness going on as opposed to wham, bam, thank you mam!!

The issue of Bond having a few more female fans can never be ignored, either. And in these days of low box-office returns, you can't have too many fans.

While I am aware that many would like to see the world of Bond maintained as a primarily male one, heavy on action, fast cars, and fast living, I still feel that there is room to satisfy everyone. Yes, Lady Rose, the relationship between Bond and Kara was a beautiful one! (loved the top of the ferris wheel!)

As my dear Alessandra has often pointed out, Bond belongs to females as well: as much is he is every young boy's hero, he has also been every young girl's dreamboat.

NO, it is not done, HITCH, you talented genius!

You cannot leave DALTON'S DAZZLING LITTLE WENDY in the proverbial lurcheroo!

Enquiring minds want to know what happens next between her and the magnificent, devastatingly attractive retired Secret Agent with the authoritative manner, the rueful smile, and the cruel mouth! :D

Absolutely not Hitch !!! You cant leave us hanging like that. This is great, Mills and Boon Bond !! Finally, something for the ladies ....

Excellent story. You really must do a second part.

Mills and Boon Bond? I'm curious. Is that really what women want to see (or read about)?

Like I said in an earlier post, there are those genre of novels called Silhouette Bombshell, which I'm pretty sure is published by Harlequin (who seem to have merged with Mills and Boon). They tend to be military or spy-type novels (or crime thrillers) and depict the women as tough cookies no longer dependent on men, but easily able to hold their own. Now that's fine, but some of the storylines are really utter trash. Nothing more than an excuse to get into a "romantic" scene (interpret that as usually a sex scene), with little emphasis actually on espionage. Although that's quite a broad generalisation (because admittedly, there are some of those authors who DO have a good military background and produce some solid stuff here), on the whole, they are pretty much trash.

Only a few decent stories in what is otherwise a rather plotless novel (imagine a Bond movie where his only mission is to extract information from a female spy by bedding her, and that's all the plot revolves around).

I agree it doesn't have to be trash, but all I was saying is that some of those novels are rather light on substance - well, they were probably pot-boilers. They might have lots of nice writing, but not anything underneath. It's a bit like having nice wallpaper but no solid walls.

I'm not saying to go to the other extreme of real technobabble jargon like is usually found in Tom Clancy or some of these military novels. Even Dan Brown, who probably has a slightly more reader friendly style (and some not that great writing too) tends to go off on his own frolic about the likes of the composition of icebergs and meteorites for several chapters. Like we care.

But there are writers in the romance genre who ARE better than others - one which comes to mind is Vicki Hinze - I believe she writes military novels but it gets more the right balance between an actual plot, romance and technical detail. Not that I make it a habit of reading these sorts of novels, but I have been known to take a peek to see how women write within the "spy" genre mixed with romance.

What I'm not into, however, is what is essentially an endless set of scenes around which some vague semblance of a spy plot is constructed. To me, it's like some of those awful late-night so-called adult flicks you sometimes find, where the plot summary says, for example, its about 2 lawyers doing something or other, but there's not ANY law going on whatsoever, but only copious amounts of sex. Gah!

Oh, Joyce Carrington is a fictional character? I always seriously thought she was just a poster here on these boards with that name.

I suppose next we'll see the adventures of someone called Dalton's Wendy? No wait, you've already done that! :D

So in summary, as I'm too lazy to read it all myself just now, who's this Joyce Carrington (don't tell me someone from Dynasty :D ) and what's it about?

But beware what you're getting yourself into... Off Balance is a brickload of a book and it's only the first part of a trilogy. I've somehow told myself I should write somewhat of an epic, so that is what I'm trying to do.

In response to Welshcat's question: Joyce Carrington (OO9) is an adolescent in a thirtysomething body that has somehow gotten herself into the British Secret Service. She is not the right person for the job... or is she?

No publication, no revenue.

Fan fiction isn't meant for profit, just entertainment. IFP holds the rights to the character of James Bond and his world and since I use those elements to tell my story, I can't even think about publishing this.

Like you, I could also picture TIMOTHY perfectly . . . which is doubtless the reason for my having gone off into spirals of ecstasy, and squeals of delight -- yes, friends: I was singing! -- when I read HITCH's final line!

And I love the idea of an older, more mature Bond. I feel that he would be very attractive to the Baby Boomer generation; he would certainly be someone to whom they could relate, more so than to a Bond, whom, for the first time for many, is now younger than are they.

HITCH's idea of having a father-and-son Bond team provides something for everyone! And I further think that someone as attractive as DALTON would inevitably attract some of the younger females, as well.

I want the full monty: excellent package, with life experience, style, class and knowledge of the heart. too much? heck no! there's always time in life for second best! It's a rule I live by. :D
I have a strong character, so I absolutely need someone with a very strong personality, who can keep me guessing. Someone who keeps me interested, and laughs, and is full of that, a la Scarlett O' Hara "anxiety for life"
I'd never want Cavill! HE would make me feel like a child molester, as you said!! lol [censored]
I am for the Brad Pitts and Patrick Dempseys, as opposed to the Timothy Daltons for Wendy! Pitt and Dempsey are both around my age! (bit older .. but not too much! [censored])
now the guy whose picture I posted, and who is Bond's son, is more or less my age, around 30!
What I meant is that I, in general, don't like men who are significantly older than I am.. because I am "always in motion" and am very lively and like to have lots of fun. which things combined, have always wearied out my one(!) significantly older boyfriend. They just can't handle me if the age difference is too big! lol [censored]

Here's why EON hasn't hired me yet. They have Purvis and Wade I suppose...

Sorry about the format.

INT. CASINO
ANGLE ON
a pair of delicate hands as they play the piano. A breezy Gershwin tune.
PULL BACK
to reveal the casino gaming room in all it's glory. The Baccarat tables are busy, catering to the rich and glamorous.
Bond enters and lights a cigarette. He moves to an empty seat at a table near the piano.
The piano player, ALESSANDRA, a gorgeous Italian, follows him with her eyes, never missing a note.
ON BOND
as he places his cheques in front of him.
The DEALER deals the two hands of two cards from the shoe. Two cards go to a PLAYER standing across the table from Bond. Her face is hidden by the lamp, but her body is spectacular, tightly wrapped in an elegant gown.
Bond's eyebrow goes up, noticeably.
She leans over and looks at her cards. Her face is still hidden. She turns the cards.
A QUEEN AND A THREE
The Dealer turns his card. It is a four and a deuce.
PLAYER
Carte.
The Dealer sends her another card from the shoe.
The Player looks at it and turns it over.
IT IS A KNAVE
The CROUPIER removes her chips.
The Player's bare shoulders slump perceptibly.
Bond tosses two 100,000 cheques onto the table.
BOND
Banco.
All eyes turn to him
Including those of the PLAYER who leans into his sight line.
She is a raven-haired beauty, with large, brown eyes.
The Dealer deals four cards from the shoe. The Croupier slides Bond his cards.
Bond looks at his, then flips them up.
AN EIGHT AND AN ACE
The crowd MUTTERS in amazement.
The Dealer turns his cards.
A KING AND A FIVE
He takes another card from the shoe and turns it.
A QUEEN
No help at all. Bond has won the hand.
Bond meets the gaze of the Player. She is looking at him appreciatively.
Bond picks up his winnings and rises from the table. He circles past the Player, never breaking their gaze. She follows him to the exit.
INT. CASINO LOBBY -- CONTINUOUS
Bond is cashing in his cheques. He turns to see the player standing behind him.
PLAYER
I'd been losing to that guy for six straight hands. You play one hand and draw a natural nine?
BOND
It's a gift.
He extends his hand.
BOND
James.
She takes it and shakes.
PLAYER/WENDY
Wendy.
BOND
Have you eaten?
WENDY
Unfortunately, yes.
BOND
Perhaps I can interest you in some dessert?
She smiles.
INT. CASINO RESTAURANT -- LATER
The table is covered with the remains of a plate of strawberries, large and ripe, a bowl of cream cheese whipped with marshmallow fluff and a bottle of Bolinger champagne.
BOND
Satisfied?
WENDY
What do you think?
Bond reaches out for a strawberry, dips it in the cream and lifts it to her mouth. She bites into it hungrily.
They rise from their seats and move toward the door.
WENDY
Will you show me that gift of yours again?
BOND
Certainly.
WENDY
I've never had a natural nine before.
They stop. He helps her on with her cover.
Alessandra appears in the lobby, radiant.
WENDY
Do you mind if I bring a friend with?
BOND
(smiles)
Natural eighteen is just as easy as a natural nine.
They go.

What I meant is that I, in general, don't like men who are significantly older than I am.. because I am "always in motion" and am very lively and like to have lots of fun. which things combined, have always wearied out my one(!) significantly older boyfriend. They just can't handle me if the age difference is too big! lol :D

Well, thats fine and dandy for you Alessandra, but it looks like there could be a three way cat-fight between me, Pam and DW :D

There is a lot to be said for the 'older' man. A little world weariness and expertise ( ) goes a long way in my book. :D
