I've seen posts above I agree with stating that Bond does NOT have to be gritty like Bourne Identity, and is not xxx even.
Bond is suave, has class, is DREAMY in a way. It's something not everyone can have, it's not ordinary people, it's extraordinary.. it's extra-rich stuff, extra-gadgets, extra-clothes, extra-everything!
and yes, like somebody else was saying, he makes women go crazy for him in a sec!
And that just doesn't go with Daniel Craig.
I agree.
People want to watch Bond movies because they know what to expect. They want to see exotic locations, extra gadgets, beautiful women and action. Bond is a diffrent world, every one who watch bond movies want to be there, in those locations. If people would want gritty Bond that means DAD would be a major flop in boxoffice, but it didn't.

The whole situation is not a disaster. Years from now, we 'll be discussing about the cult film with the ugly guy, who did only one. And we 'll enjoy it. Some of us may even say it was the best ever...
LOL
that is actually true.
Except for the fact I do not enjoy ugly types! lol

First sentence sums it up very well. They know what to expect. which is exactly what you listed.

But even if it is Craig, don't you think you might still be able to enjoy CASINO ROYALE if it's a decent film? In the end, it's the quality of the film that really matters, no? I mean, I consider Connery the best Bond ever, but there are a couple of Bond films of his I'm not particularly fond of. Given the choice, I'd rather have a bad Bond in a good film than a good Bond in a bad film.

But regardless, I'll deign to contribute to the topic.
DAD was a box office success, sure, but another DAD probably wouldn't be. Since it came out, I've lost track of the number of people - non-Bond fans and Bond fans alike - who have told me they hated it. The invisible car! The CGI! And so on. Dalton's first film was pretty successful. People voted with their feet with his second. And if they'd done a third similar film with Dalton, it would probably have been the series' last.
The public do *not* want another ridiculously over-the-top and implausible sci-fi Bond film. They don't even want another GOLDENEYE. They're crying out for Bond to raise its game and have car chases that are actually suspenseful and plots that make a bit of sense and twists you don't see coming a mile away and effects that aren't overdone and fewer one-liners, and so on. They wouldn't want Bond to become just like the Bourne films, or THE RECRUIT, SPY GAME or SPARTAN, but the critical and commercial success of those films (with the exception of the latter, which was just a critical success) shows that they're hungry for this. So does BATMAN BEGINS. It had all the stuff Bat-fans expected - but it got rid of a lot of the excesses of the last couple of films, had a better script, and went back to basics. It was a pretty big success, and has reignited that dying series.
The same will happen with Craig. The public are no longer in the mood for an extended piece of product placement with explosions. They want a proper thriller. Craig's the one to deliver that.
Still - am I the only one looking forward to finally seeing Hugh Dancy announced?

I can just see the teaser trailer now, a la Pierce Brosnan. A mysterious figure emerges from the shadows and says "You were expecting someone better looking?"
How about: Craig enters, "You were expecting someone else?", a massive voice of thousands of people reply: "Yes", then the floor opens, he falls in it, and Jackman appears?...
Yeah, I know, wishful thinking.

Well, Alessandra, it's possible that we've all been had and that the new Bond isn't Craig. Who knows? This time tomorrow, CBn may be groaning with a zillion Alex O'Lachlan threads after he's revealed as the new, 28-year-old 007. And there'll be a fearsome amount of embarrassment and backpedalling from the pro-Craig brigade.
But even if it is Craig, don't you think you might still be able to enjoy CASINO ROYALE if it's a decent film? In the end, it's the quality of the film that really matters, no? Lol Loomis. true, it's possible that it's not Craig.
I DO enjoy Bond movies like yourself, because I enjoy the elegance, the classy environment and all the action (yes including all those gadgets, without those it's not Bond!!). But the one thing I enjoy the most is JAMES HIMSELF! lol
Which is why I wouldn't enjoy a movie with Craig as Bond.. still you're right, if it's a very enjoyable movie I may as well watch it. (on DVD ) but there's nothing I can't do, I won't like it with such a man as Bond! lol ;D
so ok I am a woman and very partial to good looks! that's one of the reasons why I love Bond! he's attractive and elegant. Those are qualities I DO LIKE in a man!
Seriously, you're right. I won't go to the movies but I'll watch it on DVD, and maybe will be even entertained for a coupla hours.

WOW! now that's what I would call a spectacular presentation for the film!! great one pgram
and maybe then end it with Jackman watching down the floor to Craig and saying "come on over Felix, time for YOU to appear now"

This thread will be forgotten in a week anyway so suck it up and let people vent their disapointment about Craig.
I don't like Craig as Bond, I've said it before. I am a huge Bond fan but there is a small part of me that would like to see this be a one shot deal if Craig is the ONE. Not the end of the series, an end to Craig.
A larger part wants to give him a chance , wait for the previews and hope he is great in the role when I see the movie.
One thing that worries me is that the press is already poking fun at him and he isn't offical yet. If this would continue through production it could be a train wreak that could derail the series into the next decade.

God how petty are you people? You complain about every little nit picky thing there is. It's a thread to complain about Craig, if you don't like it, don't read it and go to another thread.

Lol Morgan.. feeling a little nervous about the complaints?? LOL
your line about thread being forgotten in a week cracked me up.
I didn't want to mention the press poking fun at him but err.. YEA I kind of thought about that too today.
Still, even if I don't like him at all, I don't think it'll be such a disaster. He'll only do one movie, and then they'll cast someone else if things don't go well. Amen.

Stuff you.
(It's not offensive, apparently.)
Nah, not petty - I just don't want CBN to turn into the kind of forum where all the thread titles are 'BOND IS DEAD AS A DODO'S CORPSE TO ME NOW', 'How can we assassinate Barbara Brokolee?', 'Please sign my petition for Adrian Paul as Bond', 'Flemming was such a DULL sadist!!!!!!11111!!!!', 'Pls txt me if you wnt 2 B stffd 2' and so on.
Oh. Sorry. It's already happened since I last visited... yesterday.
A 'thread to complain about Craig' seems to me pretty petty, but there you go. You've got it. Enjoy it. Knock yourself out.

Lol Spy . your titles for threads have cracked me up.
but hey... let's try and not quarrel over this !! come on, it's just a thread title, I am serious, moderators surely know their job and if it were seriously offensive they would have removed it by now?
still if a lot of people feel strongly against it, I think it should be changed. This said, let's stop the quarreling over the title puhhhleeeeeeezeeeeeeeee:D
come on spy, you'll have Craig for Bond tomorrow and you'll be all happy!
concentrate on the bright future! (bright for you at least, but I'm always glad when I see people who are happy! )

yep that`s it. As Director Campbell said "it is hard to find the guy every woman goes crazy for and every man wants to be..". And that is embodied by Craig?
There is something about Bond that shouldn`t be changed. Ok, make a more darker movie, make something that goes into that "Bond Begins" direction. But don`t change things about Bond which should always remain: his classy style, his sex-appeal, his wonderful irony. Craig can`t do that,no chance-big mistake.

beautiful imagination
I had another daydream. They all rush in,Babs, Michael, Martin, there is that wonderful tune "what`s your flavor, tell me what`s your flavor.."
and then Bond comes in..and it is.. CRAIG David!!

Damnit Spy! I wanted to make fun of them with the internet-speak! You stole my idea ....U R teh Lam3.... n00|3!!!!111
And yes, terribly petty...frankly I'd rather take Daniel Craig and maybe choke on him than sit here and talk about how horrible a movie is that won't be filming for another 2 months. The first option just seems a lot less tressful. Who knows? If I'm choking on Daneil Craig, maybe Sienna Miller will give me the heimlich...

I could just about live with Brosnan leaving if the new Bond was Jackman or Owen.
And those 3 seem the most popular of everthing I've heard from fans.
True. Infact, even in the MSNBC poll they were in the top three spots. Brosnan and Jackman in particular got a massive amount of votes compared to others.
I would just book my ticket NOW if Jackman were to be the next Bond, but hey, I'll live even if Craig is da man. I just won't go to the movies. lol

I don't understand some people who think that a change in actor is going to kill the series. I mean I hated Brosnan as Bond but I still went to see the 007 movies because I am a Bond fan.

For those of you who don't like the choice of Craig, could you email me the footage of his Bond screentest? I'm one of the people who didn't manage to see it, so I can't really say how good he would be, like you.
I don't like Danny DeVito for James Bond but I 'm afraid I can't send you his screentest, either.
