On T.V., during news..... but I agree, I think it's only rumour again. But I can't understand why serious T.V. channels relay this kind of rumour without verify the truth....

Without having seen him in Layer Cake (which seems to have impressed some people on this forum)

I watched it last night- only a fiver in Smiths. Quite a decent flick and Craig is good in it. Plus you get to see him at Stoke Park (Goldfinger golf scene) so you can picture him as Bond there!

Hey guys, I just thought I would let you know that I was watching Fox News(for those in the UK who don't know, its America's top rated news outlet) this morning and they had a program on called, "Fox and Friends" (which is like the "Today Show" on NBC) and they said that Daniel Craig IS Bond. What I find interesting is that they didn't say something like, "sources have said that Daniel Craig is Bond" but they just said that, "Daniel Craig IS Bond"

They also had a poll question to the people who were watching to see if they wanted a "blond Bond" and alot of people said no no no no and no.

Welcome to the new world of journalism, my friend. Verifying is too much work and only ruins a story. :)

From GoldenEye to golden hair

Staff and agencies
Wednesday October 12, 2005

Daniel Craig appears almost certain to become the first blond Bond. Reports that the British actor is set to be the next 007 are rife in Hollywood, and on the internet, even though there has, as yet, been no official confirmation.

However, the fact that Craig's agents, ICM, have not denied the suggestions, has increased speculation. Instead they have said that they can't comment until Eon Productions (the Bond producers) make an announcement. This will have to come fairly soon, since shooting for the film is scheduled to begin in January.

If Craig, 37, is cast, he will become the star of the 21st Bond film, Casino Royale. It is being directed by Martin Campbell, whose credits include Goldeneye - the film which introduced Pierce Brosnan as the smooth-talking spy.

It's been a busy week for Craig when it comes to newspaper coverage. Not only has the star of films including Enduring Love and Sylvia been firmly touted as Bond, but the tabloids have also reported that he had a "fling" with Sienna Miller - with whom he starred in Layer Cake and who has herself been mentioned in rumours as a potential future Bond girl.

Meanwhile the Bond bandwagon rolls on apace with the news that Warner Brothers are to make a film about 007's creator, Ian Fleming. Variety reports that "Fleming" is to be produced by Andrew Lazar. "He was an extraordinary thinker who helped shape what the modern spy was, both in his work at MI6 and in his novels," Lazar said.

Rumor, official news or not, if Daniel Craig gets the part, I for one will be very very VERY happy. Damn, reading all these comments on here, people only seem to care about the guy's hair color!!! What about his acting abilities? And sorry, the man is NOT ugly! He's look extremely manly, perfect for Bond ... blonde or not. I mean, Clive Owen (who was my ultimate choice), isn't a male model either. So, get over it and be ready for at least three Bond movies with Craig as 007! Houray!!!! :)

Pierce had a full beard when he was named Bond -- did the media assume he would be the first "bearded Bond"? Ridiculous.  :)

Well, he was. Not until his 4th movie, though. :)

True- 'The First Black/Irish/Blonde Bond' sounds better than 'Another vaguely well known and talented actor becomes the second English James Bond'.

Hey all. First time poster, but I'm a huge fan of the Bond films.

I just wanted to weigh in on Daniel Craig. He will make an excellent Bond in the gritty mold the producers have alluded to when discussing Casino Royale.

I think he is probably the best actor to take on Bond. He has more of an emotional range than any prior Bond, though I doubt he will get to use it.

He was excellent in both Layer Cake and Enduring Love. He has an everyman quality that seems understated for a character of Bond's grandeur, but it will definitely be a step in the right direction if they are going for gritty and realistic.

A lot of people in the movie industry are seeing that people want better acting and direction in their films, and less campy, silly movies that rely more on special effects than on acting, writing, and direction. They are going to successful indie movie makers and actors to get the job done.

Batman Begins with Christian Bale, directed by Christopher Nolan, is a great example of this, and it worked extremely well.

I have the utmost confidence that Craig will be a fantastic Bond, certainly more Connery and Lazenby than Brosnan or Moore.

Dead on. Casting Craig is/would be another indication that EON is raising its game and means to deliver on its promise of a serious-edged Bond film. This is a good thing.

This whole "the first blond Bond" thing is out of control. Obviously if he gets the part they will dye his hair (or return it to its natural color). Just because he's blond now doesn't mean he'll play the part blond. Pierce had a full beard when he was named Bond -- did the media assume he would be the first "bearded Bond"? Ridiculous. :)

Speaking of this, wasn't Moore a blond? I've seen him with dark hair, "sandy brown", and blond hair, but I'm not sure what his natural hair color is.

I do agree that the "first blond" (right or wrong) is pretty ridiculous.

CNN seems less than certain that Craig has nabbed the role. ON their online story there's a big old question mark in the headline.

Wanted to wait to see how the news got out about this but last night Jay Leno made a joke stated that it was official that Daniel Craig was the new James Bond and he was last seen in Sienna Miller. Also E! ran the story of the daily mail reporting that Craig has been confirmed. It may not be true but with all the attention Craig is getting from Media Soureces around the world it will be bad news for EON if he isn't Bond.

Yeah. I know that commenting on speculation doesn't seem to be Eon's thing, but:

If the official announcement of the star of CASINO ROYALE is indeed just days or even hours away,

and

If Craig isn't the new Bond,

then I don't see why Eon hasn't issued a statement denying the Craig rumours. Otherwise, Craig would surely go down in the public mind as "the guy who at the eleventh hour lost Bond to so-and-so", and in the meanwhile must be fielding hundreds of congratulatory phone calls, e-mails and letters that aren't warranted.

If we're so close to an announcement, then telling us that it won't be Craig would hardly make people any the wiser as to who the real choice is.

Or maybe The Powers That Be are indeed still trying to decide, as that Eon spokesperson said (and an announcement could be a long way off).

It really doesn't matter the least bit who else reports it, unless they have independent confirmation. Otherwise, all they're doing is reporting that the Mail reported it. That's how journalism is done these days :), and it's a sad thing but I guess it's a lot easier than asking a journalist to actually pick up a phone and look into a story themselves...
