Last nite I saw Layer Cake. It blew me alway. And I was very impressed with Mr. Craig. This can be a bold choice. He has all the right stuff, (no I still want PB.) for a new direction. But, I have heard this "new direction" jazz for years. Do you actually think at this stage in the game. That Eon is going to take a risk, and GO BOLD. After all these years of fantasy Bond, we all going to get a down and gritty Bond. They took a step with Dalton, and pulled back. I don't think they have the nerve.

View Post

HEY - I am ALL FOR BOLD...cast Goran.

Bring back Pierce Brosnan. Casino Royale is a project he wanted to do, it is something I have wanted to see for years (as I am sure most REAL Bond fans have), and he is someone who can do the story right...have him "resign" at the end, and leave it "up in the air"...

It's perfect.

Hell, I'll even sign on for a SMALL percentage as another screenwriter.

I am going to watch Layer Cake this week...but honestly, it doesn't matter how I feel about it...I still want Pierce Brosnan for Casino Royale. It just has a ring to it. He wants it, and I want it....and millions others clearly do, too.

Why not forget bold and go right off the edge...et's convince Eon to cast a Polish Acvtor who walks with a limp in his right leg, wears an eyepatch, and has only two front teeth?

Throw out EVERYTHING about James Bond...this Bon's only weapon will be the forgotten ice cube recipie :)

Sorry, Atticus, wasn't directed specifically to you. I was directing this at Lord Kemsley and the general "Craig is too ugly for Bond" contingent which is really starting to get old. I removed your quote from my post. Again, sorry.

:) when I woke up this morning I tried to reflect on this latest news about Craig. I simply cannot imagine that Bongo Craig to play Bond. This guy will destroy everything I ever had in mind about the most famous superspy in the world. For god`s sake, if Craig is now their first choice, what have they done in eighteen months?? :) :) :)
EON cannot simultaneously plan to conform The Serial to a younger audience and to take Daniel Craig. That is like eating chocolate ice cream with hot potatoes, there is simply no sense in it. Campbell should have taken Antonio Banderas to play Bond. Even `Zorro`would be better than Craig. Daniel Craig definetely won`t attract today`s audience. And this will be a tragedy in the end, because there is such an immense competetion in the last years for the serial-just think of "xXx" or the "The Bourne Identity". They all tried to copy some elements from the big original, with great success. With Daniel Craig Bond won`t get back on track. The younger audience simply will get rid of the serial, and then it`ll be very tough work for any actor to make Bond successful again let`s say after Craig in 2010. I hardly doubt that there will be again a popular and beloved "Brosnan"-type actor to get the job done like it was back in 1995 after Timothy Dalton. Even Dalton was a superb bond compared to that small blond potato-nose. This will be a tragedy. They missed so many chances..They could have taken Eric Bana, clive Owen, Goran Visnjic, James Purefoy, Alex o`Lachlan or even get back with Brosnan...and now they take Daniel Craig. :) :) :)

To be honest i just want them to announce the actor as i am looking forward to film production a la DAD when we members were getting reports/ whispers from the sets etc , all the build up from teaser trailers to the final release it was great fun and then

If it is Craig ,so be it. Apart from looks ( ladies will like him as they like a bit of rough) i think he will give the hard edge we have not had since Sean & Tim. Just announce it EON , and lets enjoy the production experience warts and all.

Kind of risky for them, before an official announcement and after EON said that the casting process is still going on.

Then again, if another candidate is named, the Daily Mail surely will know and explain why Craig was turned down.

Is Craig really six foot? Doesn't look it. Not that it matters much - to me. But I know how you all find the precise height of the actor extremely important. :)

Yeah, there's no real risk for the Mail. Plenty of others have done the same - the Mirror claimed for certain that Dougray Scott had won the part, and several other articles have claimed it's gone to Gerard Butler or whoever. There was a rash of articles claiming Craig had got it earlier in the year. Sure, this is nearer the deadline, but it's just a showbiz column. It's not exactly got a lot of respect anyway, so it's not like the journalistic integirty of the Mail will go down the pan if they're wrong. And they've got a very good chance of being right, anyway - Craig looks to be a serious contender. It's well worth the risk - you think this site got a lot of hits as a result, imagine the Mail and Standard's sites. Big spike in readers - useful to advertisers. If they're right, they will gloat. If wrong, it'll be explained in two lines and they'lll move onto another story.

When the Mail announced Bill Nighy as Doctor Who on the day the BBC announced it was Chris Eccleston they simply reprinted the exact same article in the later edition with Eccleston's face replacing Nighy's. They're not new to getting things like this wrong!

I'm just watching Craig's pictures, again and again.
I don't think it's only my opinion, but the question is...
Is he going to be bald in a short time? If it's true, no matter if he's blond.
Probably in Bond 22 we would see him with a wig.
So you can answer that Connery was the same...
But I prefer someone with his black hair!!!
mmm....
I'm sure he could be a very good bond, but I still don't see him like Bond.

He certainly has a rather high hairline and if he is thinning, i imagine EON will just make him wear a hairpiece in later films!

It's going to be a long [censored]ing year if you guys continue to voice your opinions of Craig based solely on photographs. I really hope at some point you will actually watch a movie with the man and try and come up with some intelligent arguments as to why he would or wouldn't make a good 007 (as the majority of long-term CBn members are doing), instead of continually posting knee-jerk reactions and snide comments about his appearance. Enough is enough already.

Yeah, I know I'm gonna catch a lot of flack for saying this, but I don't really care if the movie version of James Bond looks like the book version of James Bond!

The truth is that the movie version of James Bond has always been a guy that woman find attractive, and men would not mind looking like themselves in some cases.
The public has come to expect that no matter what Ian Fleming described. And the majority of the general public have never read an Ian Fleming novel, and don't give a damn what Fleming described in his books. If they were ever going to worry whether or not the movie version of James Bond looked like Fleming's book version it should have been back in 1962. But since the public have always expected a guy who is considered to be good looking, and who is tall and has dark hair, that is what EON should feel obligated to give them!

"Always give the people what they want." And they don't want someone like Daniel Craig, or a baby-Bond either!

Can't argue with any of that. If it's really going to be Craig, I'll look forward to CASINO ROYALE and his interpretation of Bond, but the points you make are fair enough and won't cop any flack from me. :)

I'm warming to Craig - and would definitely look forward to him as Bond. Granted, he would not make it near my list of top ten candidates - he's just not my idea of Bond - on the surface at least. But perhaps challenging that idea a bit is not a bad idea - it's a challenge to the Bond of Die Another Day, which can only be a good thing. Without having seen him in Layer Cake (which seems to have impressed some people on this forum) I can still see that he's a charming guy, and his face has.... character. So if it is him I say "good work, EON", and will look forward to Casino Royale knowing that with him as Bond they must be trying something slightly different (Campbell's recent comments during the Zorro promos and EON's past behaviour preclude this something from being too different).

all of us here will watch Casino Royale. But I hardly doubt that Craig will give the needful refreshment to Bond. He simply does not look the part. He has a knittered face, a big nose, he is to small, he has very little greasy hair and eyes that don`t kick any(woman) from the chair. Man,this is bond!!It is not "the piano" with harvey keitel! We are not searching for the best actor to perform a character for a an oscar nomination,we are searching for Bond! We all want Bond to continue that tradition of goodlooking charismatic actors.all oof them were fabulous: Connery, Lazenby, Moore,Dalton,Brosnan..and now Craig??Have they got tomatoes on their eyes? :) :) :)
Craig cannot get any chance because he simply doesn`t look the part, finish. It is easy to give a chance and credits to someone who looks the part. Because then it is only the question of "can he manage to convince all of us by his acting". But if you don`t simply look the part, there is nothing left to convince us,as long as we, that could be an idea, close our eyes when watching the movie. :) :)
