Bond #6: Is it Daniel Craig?

The Daily Mail reports Criag signed for the role -- official announcement this week

http://www.dailymail...73&in_a_source=

Main page story UPDATED:

Update (10:50AM):

Variety.com is reporting Craig's publicist only offered a "no comment" and the PRs at Eon Productions, the producers of the Bond franchise, were said to be "in a meeting."

Craig's agents ICM in London said they couldn't comment until Eon made an announcement but expected that 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson would let the cat out of the bag by the end of the week.

Nicole Lampert is the journalist that started all this, when she wrote that now infamous article saying Brosnan had been axed due to him being to old. (before CBn, before Mr KKBB, everyone!)

There is more to this, her name on it tells us that.

Her inside info was ahead of everyone else once before, famously.

Please let this be true!

From the same paper that announced 'Bill Nighy is Doctor Who' on the very day that the BBC announced Chris Eccleston got the role. Don't believe a word this lying rag says. If the Sun say it, it's worth considering- not if it's the Mail.

That said, I think he is the most likely to get the role and they will probably turn out to be right, but I doubt they have any more inside knowledge than us.

Without raining on anyone's parade and at the expense of being accused of being picky, Craig isn't the first "blond" Bond, is he: Rog certainly was blond/fair haired as opposed to dark.

Just a thought to provoke the idea that not all the facts stack up...

I really hope it's true. Out of the recent candidates he's the best one, so I hope there's some truth in that article.

Guys.. things are getting UGLY.
News agencies and teletext services (notably reliable) here today say that producers are absolutely in complete DARKNESS on who to appoint. AND THAT THE FRONT RUNNERS ARE (AHEM AHEM): Jude Law, Hugh Grant and Di Caprio.
Now.. if THEY, who are reliable news sources, are so lacking information to write stuff like this, then sorry, I don't believe ONE WORD of ANYTHING the Mail says.
And if what the press agencies say is true then well sorry.. ROFLMAO!!
note: all blond the types here.. hugh grant may be a bit darker than blond, but he's far from dark haired. Never liked blond Bond. (Lol sorry for wordplay)
Anyway.. I think it's pointless to keep reporting stuff about the same names which appears on tabloids.. we know nothing, nobody knows anything.. because EON HAS NO IDEA YET!! (or at least that's what they want the press to believe). So how can the journos possibly know?!?
I am a journalist and I'm telling you: if there were ANY and I mean ANY hints on it, ALL the major newspapers and the tabloids would have it and run full page stories on this. AND they would all have the same name!
since this isn't happening. well sit back and relax, 'cause we're far from knowing who it will be. Sorry, but this is how it works..
This said, MANNNN!! I find Daniel Craig OLD, UGLY and WORKING CLASS looking...doesn't AT ALL respond to the Bond profile that Campbell so wisely mentioned. And he can't acquire class only with nice clothes and a nice car.. he just doesn't have it!! (it's just how I feel, let's clarify, I don't want to offend anyone!)
I DO hope those people are sane enough not to put someone like him to play Bond.. At that point, I'd rather see even JUDE LAW doing it! At least, he can be credible as a classy guy. And he's young and good looking. I wouldn't like Jude Law as Bond AT ALL, but certainly would like him better than Daniel Craig!
:)

I certainly won't lie and say that I am thrilled with this, nor do I want to believe it...but I will let Craig try to prove me wrong if he truly will play the role.

Both Sky and Reuters have commented within the last two hours and neither seems convinced.

I don't believe a word of it. Just too good to be true.

Alessandra, which reliable agencies or wire services have pegged those three? And whichever ones they are, are they reliable for entertainment news, or financial specıalısts?

If the former, perhaps it's time to re-evaluate their status as reliable!

Take me out of my misery please.... :) Putting aside my feeling that DC is not a suitable candidate for Bond, this article has some credibility as it's written by the person who first broke the news of PB being out. That being said, it sure as heck doesn't make it a fact yet! The writer might have been lucky last time, or misinformed this time or just plain rehashing some old rumours with some added meat from news/reports posted on this site.

At least it sounds like the announcement just might be sooner rather than later. Sooner even being this week.

My problem with Lampert's credibility (over and above her being the Mail's entertainment/gossip columnist!) is that Craig as Bond conveniently fits into her obsession with Jude Law. If you Google her and Law you get over 700 results! Google her and James Bond - and remember how widely reported her Brosnan Axed piece got - and you get around 300. She has not only filed several articles on the recent Miller/Law saga - and note the reference to that at the top of this piece - she's also the journalist who 'broke' that Law had had an affair with Kidman. Kidman sued over that, and won substantial damages.

She'd have no qualms about running this story if it were false. Nobody can sue, so she's safe, and it's a guaranteed way of getting more readers to The Mail. There's also a fairly good chance of her being right - Craig is a favourite - in which case she's also got a scoop. If it's wrong - well no skin off her nose and the Mail and the Standard picked up a lot of traffic today.

I'm willing to give Craig a chance, but I don't like this blonde Bond stuff at all. I accepted Moore, although he had brown hair, but I'm sure as hell not accepting blonde hair! :)

It certainly isn't a sure thing. To me Craig is just far to interesting a choice for EON to actually pick him.

Roger Moore had blonde hair. They just dyed it brown for his Bond films.

I'm sure that Craig can ACT the role of James Bond and with a good script it can be a decent movie. But he can never BE James Bond to the millions of women who expect Bond to be a sexy, charasmatic, and handsome fantasy. Die hard Bond fans will see CR with Craig but he will not draw millions of female fans to see Bond like someone like Butler could. Why, when they see someone ordinary like Craig across the breakfast table every morning?
I don't think Craig is ugly like some do and he is a good actor, but he looks really blaahh as Bond. Would have made an absolutely great bad guy though. :)

I know, but he never appeared in a Bond movie with blonde hair now did he.
If they dyed Craig's hair, I'd be fine.

Right, that's why I added that "Despite this new information, CBn has not been able to confirm via its regular sources that Craig is about to become the next James Bond. What we are able to confirm is, as reported, that a decission regarding the actor will be made this week."

Honestly, no idea if she is right, but just the fact she got the Brosnan thing right from the beginning and even set the stone rolling, I think it is definately worth an article.

Absolutely, Tim - I wasn't questioning your decision to run a piece on this.

I'll leave that for when Visjnic is announced. :)

But seriously, as we reach these final hours, it all seems a bit much and it's all very frenzied and, well, we're all burned out by it. But I think you have to follow pretty much everything now - it looks like the announcement could be as early as tomorrow, so it'd be a shame after all this time to miss it. A little more frenzy and frustration are, I'm afraid, going to part of it for all of us until Dancy actually steps out from behind the curtain. :)

Hopefully, it'll all be over very soon. :)

If I were in your position, I'd have run precisely the article you ran (but with one less 's' in 'decission'! :)). She might well have something.

Affectionately,

Spynovelfan
