Bring back Louis Maxwell!

That's not Lois Maxwell, that's Lois Chiles AKA Dr Holly Goodhead (the best name ever).

How about Anna Friel?

I've only seen pictures of Rachel Weisz, so I can't say what I think of her as yet, but judging by them she would look pretty good as Moneypenny. McCutcheon is also a very good candidate, I saw her in Love Actually and thought she was excellent. The cockney accent wouldn't be a problem. Stirling would also be good. I was one thinking of her as Vesper (and I still believe she could play the role) but she'd fit Moneypenny just as perfectly. One thing I'm wondering about- do we assume that EON will give us an English Moneypenny? I mean, we all know Lois Maxwell was American, but Moneypenny suddenly changed her accent into a thoroughly English one. Do we assume that she simply picked it up being in England so long? If so, she wouldn't have picked up an accent such as they one they seem to give her with Caroline Bliss and Samantha Bond, so will they go back to Moneypenny being American in Bond 22 and beyond?

Lois Maxwell is not American. She is Canadian. She also studied with Roger Moore at RADA.

Dang, I'm rubbish with accents  . Still, she wasn't English, and now Miss Moneypenny has a British accent are we just to assume she got it from being over here for so long? I find that hard to believe, as nobody can pick up an accent so refined as Samantha Bond's and Caroline Bliss' English accents. Will we see a Canadian/American Moneypenny again?

What about Debra Moore, daughter of ... She had a cameo in Die Another Day as a British Airways flight-attendant. She has a very Miss Moneypenny-look.

I could see Martine McCutcheon as Miss. Moneypenny, but not Billie Piper. Moneypenny should not be so good looking, because then she would not be living for Bond's flirtations.

Since I'm used to Moneypenny being an older figure anyway, how about Tracy Ullman (I Like Paul)?

Now who should play Bond's secretary Loelia Ponsonby?

I doubt we will ever see that character in the films.

Martine McCutcheon would be an excellent choice for Moneypenny. Not sure if anyone as already said this but, either way check her out!
Martine McCutcheon

Martine McCutcheon? You are being ironic, surely? Not only is she positively arboreal and patently the worst thing in Love Actually (quite an achievement, actually). But if her run in My Fair Lady in the West End is anything to go by, Eon would be lucky if she turned up for two days' consecutive work before crying off with an alleged "illness". People dine out on the fact they managed to catch one of her appearances as Eliza Doolittle.

Actually I recall reading a memo that someone found from Ian Fleming to the producers of "Dr. No." The memo was filled with what he wanted the film to be like. Fleming preferred Celtic accents for subsidiary charecters, and nothing too English like school ties, shots of Big Ben and Bobbies etc. However, my source was posted on the internet, so we would have to take it with anchovies. They're loaded with salt.

Not quite sure I'd go that far, and she is pretty, but the cockney accent would definitely be a problem. Can't remember who it was that said it wouldn't, but you can't be British? And I think she may be too known for being cockney in the UK, no matter how well she may do any other accent, I doubt she'd be taken seriously by the English. Admittedly Bond is for a worldwide audience but I don't think they can afford to discount such a large section of that audience for such a major character.

I think Rachel Weisz has the perfect look, but I don't know if any actresses with even a slight degree of name recognition would take up the role of Miss Moneypenny.

Ok, lets cut to the chase here, Moneypenny may not be in Casino Royale but I find it hard to believe they wont put the character in Bond 22. So, I nominated Rachel Weisz, yes I know it's not a very original choice  But it's one that I think is a good choice, she's a great actress (which would fit the theme of the producers casting quality actors now) but she's not a huge A-lister that wouldnt jump at the chance to do what is essentially a cameo role.

Come on, she'd make a great Penny eh:

So, I got my nomination out of the way, who would you choose as Moneypenny?

I was puzzled by the question asked of this thread, but yeah.

Dead on target IMO - She'd be great.

She seems to be having a lot of support around here, think I'll go look her up. Well, had a look, while she's cute, I always prefferred Moneypenny to be close to Bond's age.

Catherine McCormack and Emily Mortimer wouldn't be bad. My recommendation, however, would be Emilia Fox.

If we're talking Spice Girls, then I'd suggest either Posh Spice or Sporty Spice, they at least have brunette hair.

As much as I doubt that Moneypenny will return any time in the near future, given the way that the character of Villiers seems to be replacing the Moneypenny/Tanner/Robinson role, what age bracket would people like to see her fall within? I suppose it would depend on the extent to which the producers would wish to conserve the traditional Bond-Moneypenny flirting.

Someone such as Miranda Richardson would have been good I think, but perhaps she may be now too old for the role.

Couldn't agree more. Catherine is my number one choice too. She is simply excellent opposite Pierce in The Tailor of Panana. I highly recommend that film btw - an excellent performance by Pierce as the 'dark side of Bond'.
