Mind you, she was better in Love, Actually than she used to be in EastEnders.

Yeah - I agree on that one.

Judging based entirely on looks, I'd go with Rachel Stirling. Moneypenny should be dignified, attractive but not gorgeous, and not TOO young. Even if Bond's a young man, MP shouldn't be in her twenties. It's a bit too much to believe that a very young woman would be able to withstand his charms with so much common-sense about her, when everyone else falls at his feet.

I have heard that Samantha Bond has decided not to return for the next Bond film, Casino Royale. So, who do you think should take over the role of Miss Moneypenny?

I also think that Rachel Weisz would be a very good choice.

Let's make Moneypenny a gay man lusting after Bond. That should shake things up.

I agree. I recently saw her in The Constant Gardener which really sucked but she's very sexy!

Natasha Richardson, wife of Liam Neeson. She looks reasonably fit and good looking

Seeing Weisz in The Constant Gardener reconfirms my thoughts that she'd be a good Moneypenny.

I've always thought Samantha Morton would do a good job. A bit high profile for such a relatively small role, but worth asking.

Yes, Rachael Stirling does have the right sort of unpretentious prettiness suited for the part of Miss Moneypenny. And, as spynovelfan mentions, the PR of being (the sublime and scrumptious in her day) Diana Rigg's daughter would be a bonus.

However, having seen Martine McCutcheon's name mentioned and then seeing her in the advert for next week's first episode of Spooks season four she herself would be a good choice. Try to forget Eastenders and the questionable music career and she would, in my view, be an interesting take on an integral character.

My choice for Moneypenny would have to be Keeley Hawes. She would make a lovely Moneypenny.

I'm not really sure if I like McCutcheon as Moneypenny or not...from what I've seen of her....I like her alot...but as Moneypenny....I don't know.

It's tough finding that right mix of sexiness and modesty.

I don't know so much english actress to portrait Moneypenny, but one of these is Keely Hawes from Spooks.
She could be nice

Despite the fact I am not enthusiast about her, I think Sienna Miller could do a good Moneypenny. the way she acts in "keen eddie" (arrogant) combined with her natural "weep weep poor me" attitude and her aspect would make her perfect for the role.
otherwise Sonya Walger.

Sonya Walger - that is odd. I remember her well from university, always thought she'd go further than she has done. I think she's too good-looking for Moneypenny, really - she'd have been very good in the Miranda Frost role, for example.

I LOVE Billie Piper.
I LOVE Rachel Weisz.
Never could stand Martine McCutcheon, though.
Mind you, she was better in Love, Actually than she used to be in EastEnders.

Gotta agree with you on both counts. I'd prefer to see Rachel Weisz In the Penny role though.

I think whoever ends up playing the role should play her like Lois Maxwell and Samantha Bond. However, I think it would be interesting if they hired someone in her early twenties. Not only would that allow for her to have longevity in the role, but it seems like that would only intensify Bond's interest in her -- someone young, attractive, smart, and spirited, yet for whatever reason, unattainable. It might give their scenes together even more spark. The more chemistry the two actors have the more fans will root for them to get together (even though they wouldn't) and the more they will speculate as to why they don't -- she rejects him, Bond actually has lines when it comes to women that even he won't cross, M is really touchy about sexual harassment in the workplace, etc.

Even though it's a small part of a typical Bond film, it's always a welcome scene. So hopefully they'll pay close attention to how they cast/portray the role of Penny.

However, I don't have any specific suggestions in terms of casting choices...any thoughts?

Sorry about that Qwerty...don't know why I didn't see the original topic. Must be blind. I should really post topics at a decent hour!

But to keep this an on-topic post, what about...Racheal Stirling? Would be interesting if Moneypenny ended up having a Tracy Di Vicenzo vibe! Talk about subtext!

What about Camilla Power? She did play the Bond girl for the James Bond auditions. And it's rumored she'll be playing Moneypenny or a Bond girl in the next Bond film to repay her services of helping with the auditions. For some reason I just think she would be good with Craig.

Oh god - what have I started?! Should totally have checked the other threads instead of causing multiple merging chaos but was just kind of thinking aloud.Martine is very sweet and pretty but you can take the girl out of the east end but you can't take the east end..... Rachel Weisz also lovely but too high profile. Jenny Agutter I would love to see in CR but not as Moneypenny, maybe working with the villain somehow?
