Now how is Dallas going to afford signing Tebow as his backup QB?
Redskins fans must be celebrating. A healthy RGIII and moves like this should keep the Cowpokes in the basement for a long time coming. Giddyup.

Damn, Dove. Check out our Broncos now!
Cost or procuring one of the best receivers in the NFL...$12M Experience of sticking it to the Satanic Patriots...priceless
Right...now that free agency has begun.. I'm currently waiting to see when (and if) orange and blue smoke will emerge from the top of Broncos headquarters to signify the signing of Wes Welker by Denver!! This would be a fantastic move for my Broncos..Like the Baltimore Ravens already blundering away many of their top players, the Patriots also are making a serious mistake by not offering Wes Welker a respectable contract extension..Inside sources say the deal with Denver is almost done...*crossing fingers*
UPDATE: Deal just became official!! Welker to the Broncos for a 2-year, $12 million dollar deal... *MAJOR FIST PUMP*
I feel like I just got sucker punched.
Haven't checked in here in a while.. Still buzzed about the Welker signing.. He and Peyton were running drills at Duke and that is a great sight to see! Meanwhile, I'm NOT so happy about the Elvis Dumervil / agent/ broken fax machine/ letting him sign with Baltimore debacle.. The Broncos were exploring the possibility of signing either Dwight Freeney (asking too much for a breaking down player) or John Abraham..now, neither seems likely. So I fully expect Denver's first priority in the draft is to go with DE and find a good pass rusher. We've got some other qualities players in Wesley Woodyard, Joe Mays, and Von Miller who can step up the attack and bring a young rookie along under their wings.

Regarding John Abraham, I think the Broncos are better off just looking for a pass rusher in the draft. Abraham disappears in big games, which is not something that the Broncos really need, as it's a Super Bowl or Bust season for them. Abraham's been doing it all the way back to his days in New York.

Agreed. This is a great draft for pass rushers. Let's get Von Miller a new Robin fresh out of college and unleash hell.
Elvis was a loss, but I don't get the feeling the Broncos were totally in love with him. Don't know anything about his attitude per se, but he didn't really show for big games (somewhat true for Von in the playoffs, too) and offenses were often able to take advantage of his lack of size.

EDIT:
Missed this earlier, but it definitely needs to be mentioned in this thread. Pat Summerall, the legendary NFL broadcaster, passed away Tuesday at the age of 82.
I remember listening to Summerall announce games with John Madden while growing up. Definitely the best play-by-play guy ever to call a football game as far as I'm concerned. He'll definitely be missed.

I'm actually surprised to see myself excited for next season as well. I know that the Jets are most likely going to be terrible (although, the last time Rex Ryan was able to play the underdog card with this team he took them deep into the playoffs), but I absolutely love the way that John Idzik is going about rebuilding this team. Hopefully he'll be able to get that 13th overall pick from the Buccaneers for Revis so he can take Geno Smith at #9 without it being too much of a risk.

I know, who would have ever thought. Of course, it helps that this is the first time in my lifetime that the Jets are actually being run like a respectable franchise
I'm just happy that they're getting rid of all of the me-first players that the former GM seemed to love to collect. Hopefully that process will be capped off somewhere in the next week or so with the trade of Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay.

Revenge is a dish best served cold....a chance for payback agains Baltimore in our house and to also show Dumervil that he made the WRONG choice..LOL.. 2013 NFL schedule is gonna be released in just a couple of hours..Anyone else pumped for it?

Doom must have not really been happily situated in Denver. My understanding is that he was offered the same $ to stay in Denver but decided to move east. He left a team that is positioned to make a Super Bowl run for one that is largely in rebuild mode.
My hope is that the Doncos will pick up a bookend pass rusher for Miller and a fresh running back. With our passing game, can you imagine what we could do with the next Terrell Davis? GIDDYUP

Hmm..great points Eric.. Meanwhile, looking at Denver's schedule, we have a lot of interesting "reunion" games this year.. Obviously open Thursday night when Doom and the Ravens come back to D-town..then Peyton gets to return to Indianapolis, and later he'll square off against Eli for Manning Bowl III in New York. Then Mike Shanahan returns to Denver for the first time when the Redskins come to town and finally, Wes Welker goes back to New England when Denver plays the Patriots..should be a fun season!

New York Jets trade Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay, pending physical
Great day for the New York Jets. Revis actually found a team stupid enough to pay him $15 million a year and the Jets now have the #9 and #13 overall picks in the first round of Thursday's draft, as well as other additional picks that will be announced later. They are expected to turn one of the other draft picks (presumably a 5th or 6th rounder) around and trade it to the New Orleans Saints for running back Chris Ivory.

Great deal for the Jets. I'm amazed anyone would give up a # 13 in this year's draft for a non-QB coming off knee surgery.

I'm more shocked that they're actually willing to give Revis somewhere between $14 and $16 million a year.
Regardless, I think Idzik did a masterful job here. He had zero leverage in the negotiations, and only had one trading partner, yet managed to convince the Buccaneers to raise their offer not once, not twice, but three different times.
Now it's time to turn these newly acquired picks into a brand new offense.

I was just thinking what a boring Jets team this may be, what with all the drama queens departing. Better but boring. But, heh, we still got ol' Rex to entertain us!
Posted 21 April 2013 - 11:50 PM
Well, I jumped the gun too soon on being excited for this one. Early reports were that the Jets would receive the #13 overall pick (which they did) on Thursday as well as the Bucs' 3rd round and 5th round picks, and possibly a conditional pick next year on top of all of that. I was excited for that trade, but it seems like the Jets' organization got fleeced again.
The actual trade terms are Jets get #13 overall pick Thursday and a 2014 conditional pick, and the Bucs get Revis.
I'm not nearly as happy with the actual compensation as I was with what was being widely reported today, which was that the Jets would get a 1st, 3rd, and 5th round pick in this year's draft. Now this means that there may not be enough draft picks to go after Saints running back Chris Ivory, who the Jets were expected to flip the 5th they were supposed to get from Tampa over to the Saints to complete that trade. It also means that there won't be the possibility of lowering the risk of drafting Geno Smith at either #9 or #13, as the picks that would have been held back in reserve to make that QB pick in the first round less of a risk just aren't there. There are other holes to fill. Hopefully Geno will fall past #13 and maybe the Jets can make a play to jump up to the front of the pack in the second round and get him there.
The real kicker in all of this, though, is that apparently Revis signed a deal with little to no guaranteed money with the Bucs. The Jets should have pursued a similar deal with Revis.

This really isn't a great draft to build out of anyway. There will be some better picks from the second to fourth rounds, but other than that I think this will probably be one of the weakest drafts in recent memory. I wouldn't exactly count missing out on Geno Smith to be a bad thing either. They already gambled with a high pick on Mark Sanchez and that has not gone well at all. Granted, I think anyone is better than Sanchez at this point, I just don't see Geno Smith being much better than Sanchez. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Couldn't disagree more. This is a great draft to really build a solid core around. There aren't many great "skill" players out there, that's very much true, but the "non-skill" positions are rather strong this year. There are a lot of good linemen available in this draft, and the Jets need to take advantage of that. There's some good defensive players as well, and as you said, there's a lot of depth in this draft, as some good players are going to go in the later rounds.
I mainly want them to draft Geno Smith because I think that Marty Morninwheg can fashion some kind of an offense around him that can help make the Jets competitive this year. Mark Sanchez is done as the starter, and I actually think they'd be doing him a massive personal disservice if they subjected him to the wrath of the fans that actually show up to that Week 1 game against the Buccaneers. He's going to be booed at that game from the moment he gets out of his car in the players' parking lot all the way through the final whistle of that afternoon. They just can't put him out there. It's not fair to him and, at this point, it's not fair to the other 52 players on the team.
I also think that the chip that Geno Smith is going to have on his shoulder coming out of this draft is going to be something that's going to fit right in with the rest of the team. Rex is going to have this team playing the underdog card that worked so well for them in 2009, and quite frankly, his Jets teams have always been at their best when that's the motivational factor they tap into. Rex is always going to have a great defense on his teams, that's just how he does things, but if Morninwheg can put together an offense that can play to a guy like Geno Smith's strengths, they can steal a couple of games during the brutal first couple of months during their schedule and set themselves up for at least a slight chance at making a run at the postseason in December, thanks to one of the weakest December schedules ever put together by the NFL (Miami twice, Oakland, and Carolina).

I would agree that this is a draft with players to build around versus immediate impact players. To me, it seems very weak though especially offensively which is a big area that the Jets need to work on. Another problem with Smith too is that he may not be available when the Jets are ready to select. There are several other teams needing QBs ahead of them meaning Smith and even Matt Barkley may not be available by 9 or 13. (I'm not sold on Barkley as a franchise QB either, he regressed quite a bit in 2012 from 2011). They have also been very poor with their management of the QB position the last few years, missing out on Matt Flynn twice now and Alex Smith. Obviously neither are stand out players, but they would've been solid in the Jets system for at least a few years.
Posted 25 April 2013 - 03:59 AM
Missing out on Matt Flynn isn't something that I'd qualify as mismanagement. Especially now that John Idzik, who was part of the personnel staff in Seattle that brought in Flynn last year, is the GM. He spent a year with Flynn and if he doesn't think that Flynn is worth trading for, then I'll accept his judgment on that front. The only real mismanagement of the QB position that I could see from Rex Ryan was sticking with Sanchez far too long last year.
Regarding Matt Barkley, he'll definitely be on the board by the time the Jets pick. I would venture to guess that he'll probably fall way down the board and probably into the second round. The only team I worry about taking Smith before the Jets pick at #9 is Cleveland. In that case, I could see the Jets and Browns swinging a trade for later round picks to send Weeden to the Jets as a stop gap measure to compete with Sanchez. If the Jets do draft Matt Barkley, though, I'm finished as a fan of the team. I've spent four (and now possibly looking at a fifth) year of the Jets trying to make a USC quarterback into a real QB, and I can't sit throught hat process again. USC quarterbacks, as a rule, make for abysmal NFL quarterbacks. Barkley, IMO, could be one of the worst that they've sent to the NFL, and that's saying something for a school that has sent the NFL QBs like Sanchez, Rob Johnson, and Carson Palmer.

No way in hell the Jets will take a gamble on Matt Barkley. Fans would burn the stadium to the ground!
I'll be surprised if RR can make this work this season. Too many challenges and changes and I don't think he is a strong skipper for this ship. Is he done if this team does not make it to the playoffs? Would Jets fans like to get a more solid, less flamboyant head coach? Is this the last year of Ringleader Ryan and Sideshow Sanchez?

Agreed. They've been burned by one USC quarterback. I can't see them going for another one. Plus, John Idzik is just too smart to draft a USC quarterback. It's only GMs that don't know what they're doing that think USC produces quality players at that position.

I'd be surprised if he can as well, but this season feels a bit like the 2009 season when Ryan took over. Nothing was expected, especially from a rookie coach and an odd assembly of an older, veteran defense and a young, inexperienced offense. Nothing is expected this season, and while the defense isn't going to be what it was in 2009, I never worry about a Rex Ryan coached defense. I believe I've read somewhere that he's never had a defense that finished worse than 8th overall, so I would expect another solid defense this year. Marty Morninwheg will field an offense that is drastically better than anything Brian Schottenheimer or Tony Sparano ever did in New York, even if he has less talent than either of those two coordinators had to work with. That might be enough to get the team to be somewhat competitive.
With regards to Ryan's job status if the team misses the playoffs, I'm not sure it's that cut and dry. If the team improves on a weekly basis and they're playing well towards the end of the season, I would think that Ryan will be back. I think it'll take a 6-10 season or worse for Ryan's job to be in serious jeopardy. As for Jets fans wanting a more solid and/or less flamboyant coach, I can only speak for myself, but I would say that I don't want a change. They'll never be able to bring in a coach that can run the defense better than Rex Ryan. He's also the second-most successful coach in the history of the franchise, so it would make little sense to fire him when the failings of the last two seasons fall much more on the former GM than they do on Ryan. When Ryan's had talent, he's done exceptionally well for the franchise. I'd wait and give him at least two more seasons (this season and next), as there will be so much cap room opened up before the 2014 season that would allow them to go out and have a spending spree in free agency to really bolster this team into a contender.

I love my Broncos. It was great to acquire Manning, even though I was concerned about the neck recovery. But, I still do not believe John Fox has the on-field, real-time tenacity to get it done. Fox fizzled.
Nota bene: Pat Bowlen and John Elway ~ Please get a coach that will take these guys and make them gladiators, ala 1997.
Posted 28 April 2013 - 07:54 AM
I think the Packers had a great draft. Datone Jones will help a defense that has been desperate for a consistent pass rush over the last two seasons. On top of that, the Pack finally addressed their greatest weakness of the last few years by drafting Lacy and Franklin to actually (in theory at least) put together a competent run game.

Bill!! Long time, no see!! Given the choice between Coach John Fox and the former one..umm..what was his name again?? Josh McDumbass?? LOL I couldn't be happier with Fox.. True, he did get mighty conservative and should have let Manning be more aggressive during that playoff loss to Baltimore, but still I'm not ready to declare the need for a coaching change...that might be different, should we not get it done this season.
Posted 29 April 2013 - 06:30 PM
And to build on that...getting it done in this case means a Super Bowl win, or perhaps more realistically a Championship Game appearance at the minimum. Less than that and I think Coach Fox may have to put his house up for sale. Elway is not fooling around these days.
I get the feeling Coach Fox can get it done, especially with this team. I just don't think I know much about him as a coach or a person. Most of us Bronco fans were just happy to get rid of McDouche. It was good to get a seasoned coach with gray hair who could bring some stability back to the team. And how about some credit to Fox and his coaching staff for totally revamping the offense around Tebow and beating Pittsburgh in the playoffs? Most football pundits at the time said that was an amazing feat.
Posted 29 April 2013 - 11:27 PM
John Fox can definitely get the job done in Denver, and I'm fairly confident it'll be sooner rather than later.
