I was hoping for Saints,Ravens,& Cowboys wins but...no matter who i'm rooting for i much rather a close, nailbiter of a game that goes down to the last minute then blowouts where the outcome is obvious by the 2nd quarter.Great if you were hoping for easy wins for the Saints, Colts 7 Vikings (as I was....); as spectacles they left a lot to be desired...
At least the Jets/Chargers game is close.
Jets are leading 10-7 in the 4th.

Oh,don't worry. They'll let you down yet.Just returned from the Metrodome where I watched my Vikes beat Dallas. After a lifetime of being let down by them I'm trying not to get my hopes up but... you know... they did look good
Jets are up 17-7.
They're starting to look like they belong here.

Tarl man,
OUCH!! This one's gotta hurt.. and boy poor Nate Kaeding.. How many times has he choked in the playoffs?
Vikings vs Cowboys: Awesome performance by Favre and Co, but totally classless the way they ran up the score at the end with that last touchdown against Dallas to make it 34-3...

Yeah, as a Vikings fan that kind of upset me. Your team gets a nice playoff win and you want to brag a little bit but that gives somebody something to throw right back at you. Takes a little bit of fun out of it.
Oh, well. Here's to next Sunday and the 'aints.

with the Chargers out of the way, I feel very good about the Colts chances (no offense to Jets fans)...
btw; as a Brit, I'm a bit confused about folks getting upset about the Vikes last TD; is there some unwritten rule that says teams shouldnt run the score up? don't players want to do that to boost up their records? I dont see that coming up as an issue with any other sports...

Yeah, it's definitely an unwritten rule that you shouldn't run up the score. Some people adhere to it, some don't. I've never had a problem with it. A coach should never have to tell his players to go out and not try to score.
That pass the Vikes made for the TD was 11 yards - from 11 yards out any pass would have probably gotten you into the end zone. I don't think it's as big a deal as some are making it.
As for other sports, the only other one I think "running the score up" really comes into play is baseball. If you're up by 10 runs in the 9th inning and a runner tries to do something extra like steal 3rd, that can be seen as doing something unnecessary add to the score. Again, I'm of the camp that thinks trying to always play the game isn't unsportsmanlike.

It's thought of as kind of kicking dirt in someones face that's already down.The Vikings were clearly in no danger of losing the game.All 4 results went the way I wanted em to this weekend;

Congrats to TDalton and his Jets. They had the chutzpa to win today and San Diego clearly did not. Three missed field goals(one I'll forgive as it was 57 yards) cost us the game. This is the second time Nate Kaeding has choked against the Jets in the playoffs at home. Amazing. Can't blame this one on the head coach, the players health, the rain or any other excuses that have comforted me in the past 5 years. The Chargers just don't have the will to win the big one-they are soft. It's sad really. TDalton, if I were you I'd believe in the Jets.
Go Vikes.
Sorry about your Chargers. I honestly thought that this was their year. I do think that it may be time for them to cut ties with Kaeding, though, in a similar way that the Colts cut ties with Vanderjagt a couple of years ago, even though he was the most accurate kicker in the history of the league.
It's been a nice run by the Jets, and I tip my cap to them, as this is probably the fourth best season in franchise history, but any realist can see that it's coming to an end next weekend against the Colts.

That's how I saw it as well. It was a completely classless move, although I don't expect anything else from a team led by Brett Favre.
And, on a separate note, wow, how 'bout my picks again this week. I'm usually pretty good at picking NFL games, but I'm a stellar 2-6 so far in these playoffs.

When a team has the best players in the league and it doesn't get it done, then they are not gelling as a team. Is it a lack of leadership at the head coach level? You could chalk it up to bad luck or a curse from the football gods, but when a team keeps winning during the regular season but always fails to get further then it's time to make changes. The current mix of ingredients, no matter how good it looks on paper, is not getting the job done.
I'm sure every Charger out there wanted to win, but damn if the Jets didn't look like they wanted it more. I could really see it in the defensive line as they surged and pushed their opponents back on their heels.
I'm sure the Colts would rather face the Jets vice the Chargers, but...the Jets are playing like a team doesn't know they shouldn't be there and have absolutely nothing holding them back. That might put a few beads of sweat on Peyton's forehead at night when he lays down and tries to sleep this week.

Peyton will have no trouble sleeping this week. It's just as you alluded to, which is that the Jets really don't deserve to be in the playoffs. They're a mediocre team (which is what every 9-7 team is, mediocre) that has gotten lucky by playing two teams that gave them playoff victories by missing field goals. Matt Stover will not miss his kicks on Sunday, and the Jets will finally be exposed as a team that has gotten by on luck and a very, very limited amount of talent. So far, the MVPs for the Jets have been Jim Caldwell, Shayne Graham, Nate Kaeding, and Norv Turner, none of which are employed by the New York Jets organization.

Just saw that Mike Nolan has resigned as defensive coordinator of the Broncos after only one season!! I guess this brings the count to like 5 D coordinators in almost as many years??? Most likely replacement candidate..former Pats D coordinator Dean Pees (oh jeez...the pee jokes are gonna be non-stop!! )

I can tell you sports fans that it is dead quiet over here in San Diego today. Calm before the storm?

The Chargers have already been in this situation during the Don Coryell years(1978-1986)Having some of the best players in the league(Dan Fouts,Kellen Winslow,Charlie Joiner) that were setting records all over the place & making it to the playoffs 7 times during those years & all the way to the AFC championship game in 2 of those 7 years but never making it to the big game.

I won't rub anything in for Charger fans. I know what it's like to have your heart broken by your team (I'm a Bronco fan). Heck, I used to cheer for them before they became the Oakland Chargers several years back.
I suspect that San Diego is going to get a steady diet of mediocrity with regard to their team. Norval Eugene Turner just does not exude the winning attitude an NFL skipper needs to embody. I know he's an accomplished offensive coordinator, but as head coach of the Redskins, Raiders and Chargers he hasn't blossomed. The news today is that the organization just renewed his contract for the next few years.
Perhaps I am dead wrong and Norv will soon hoist that Lombardi trophy in triumph. The team is certainly miles ahead of Denver at this point, where Coach McD's only friends are rolling tumbleweeds and the occasional lost cricket. Chargers will rule the floundering AFC West for the next few years, but is that enough?

Anyways....can someone explain why BOTH Wade Phillips and Norv Turner get contract extensions after epic playoff failures??
Norv didn't miss those field goals...granted I'm bitterly dissapointed in him right now.
