Seriously, nice win. The Jets totally out gutted the Bengals and played as though they actually wanted to win. I think they have a decent shot to upset the much ballyhooed Colts.

Our pass offense looked so bad...how did we win 10 games this year? Oh well, it's better than 4-11-1 (last season) or anything else we've accomplished in the past 19 years other than 2005...which ended in the same way.
Looks like the Jets are peaking at just the right time.

TDalton, when are the Jets gonna fire Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and Brian Shottenheimer?

I guess his job is safe now after that win (not that it was every actually in doubt. For the record, I like Rex Ryan quite a bit, but I just wish that he would not spout off at the mouth so much to the media. It's annoying and it's not something that you do when you're the coach of one of the most inept franchises in the NFL. Win something first, then you've earned the right to be arrogant.). You know the stars are aligned in your favor when even Brian Schottenheimer is able to get out of his own way and actually call a competent offensive gameplan.
The Jets have zero chance next week against the Chargers. The Chargers are the team that's probably built the best to make easy work of the Jets defense. Revis is going to have a tough time with either Vincent Jackson or Antonio Gates (whichever they line him up against), and the rest of the Jets DBs are just so horrendous that Phillip Rivers is going to put on a clinic out there (the only reason the Jets pass defense is any good now is that Revis takes the #1 receiver out of the picture, which allows them to give additional help to the subpar Lito Sheppard and whoever else they stick out there at DB.
And besides the Jets/Bengals game, it was good to see the Cowboys win just for the sole reason that I wouldn't have gone 0-4 on my picks this weekend.

Yeah, I didn't expect that to happen. I'm a little worried about this game to be perfectly honest.

Nah, they have a chance. They have the best defense, a great running game and anything can happen. A Rivers injury would be a deal breaker...but I think SD has too many options in the passing game for NY. If Revis shuts down Jackson, we have Floyd, Gates, Sproles...etc. And Rivers will throw to Jackson one on one all day anyway...but you have to love what the Jets are today vs a month ago. Congrats for a surprising season. Sanchez, win or lose next week, is gonna be a fine QB in NY for years to come.

Thanks for the congrats, and I'll pass along my congratulations to you on the Chargers once they take care of their business on Sunday evening and move a step closer to finally punching that ticket to the Super Bowl. Actually, I'll congratulate you now as well on a fantastic season. Honestly, I think the Chargers are the best team in the NFL right now, they're really firing on all cylinders.
I know that you're taking the cautious approach in terms of respecting the Jets as an opponent (I think that that way is always the right approach), but honestly you've got nothing to worry about. The Jets fold up like a cheap tent every time they play a team that is anything close to being good. No offence to the Bengals and their fans, but they aren't the team now that they were when they were breezing their way to the North title a month and a half or so ago (I know that that's in large part due to some very terrible things that have happened to them off the field, and it's certainly understandable that their play suffered as a result, as that would be the case with just about any team out there). When faced with good, quality teams, the Jets have found ways to give the game away (Falcons, Dolphins x2, Jaguars, Saints) or got completely blown out of the building (@ the Patriots). The Jets now 10 wins have come against some rather pedestrian opponents, and I'm 110% confident that the Chargers will expose the Jets for the massively overrated team that they've become.
The Chargers are not only a good team, they're a great team, and I'm fully confident that after they've done dispatching the Jets by what could end up being the most lopsided playoff game since the Jaguars beat the Dolphins 62-7 in Marino's last playoff game, they'll breeze past either the Colts or the Ravens and cruise to a relatively easy Super Bowl title.

New England Patriots: Laughing my off at their EPIC FAILURE!!! The game was OVER at the end of the 1st quarter!! and I'm VERY impressed by how good the Ravens defense has been (hint,hint...pay attention my Broncos! LOL)
Arizona and Green Bay: Where was the defense in this game?? LOL I don't think anybody saw this type of shoot out game coming!! Way to go Cardinals and Kurt Warner.. and I give props to Aaron Rodgers too.. he's becoming quite a good QB.
Bengals and Eagles: Way to blow it..sorry try again next season..

Jeez tdalton, have you so little faith in your own New York Jets? LOL
I have no faith whatsoever in the New York Jets. I've been a fan of the franchise for a good number of years (certainly more than 15, perhaps even bordering on 20, but I know that I had been a fan a couple of years prior to the 1-15 debacle with Kotite), and I know when I'm being set up for massive disappointment. When the team came out of nowhere in 1998 to make that surprise run to the AFC Championship, I thought, we've finally arrived at the big time. Flash forward to the next season, and not even 10 minutes after an entire pre-game panel had predicted the Jets as their AFC Super Bowl participant on opening weekend, Testaverde is lying on the ground with an achilles injury and the team goes 8-8 in what should have been the Super Bowl season. Then there was 2002, when they were the hottest team in the league after starting 2-5 and finishing 9-7, and went to Oakland and laid a massive egg out there. Then there was 2004 when they completely outplayed Pittsburgh in the divisional round, and yet still managed to find a way to lose because Paul Hackett and Herm Edwards thought it would be a good idea to take a knee and back up Doug Brien even further for the game winning field goal. Those are just the good years where they gave us hope, the rest of the years they've just been the model of pathetic. If you follow football at all, you've heard the term "Same old Jets", and that's a motto that took a long time to earn, and there's not reason to believe that this team, led by a duo of rookies and our butterfingers receiving corps is going to change that this year.
On a more specific note, if there was one team that was built to beat the Jets as they're currently configured, it's San Diego. Revis is a great corner, but I don't see him shutting down Vincent Jackson and/or Antonio Gates in the way that he's done the other receivers he's shut down. Even if he does manage to shut down Jackson, that's going to leave either Lito Shepard or a linebacker on Gates, and I have to say that our defensive backfield (Shepard in particular) has been abysmal with the exception of Revis. Revis is so good, that he allows the Jets to roll coverage the other way to help out the awful play of Lito Shepard and the rest of the DBs. That's not going to be an option against San Diego, as there's just too many good receivers to cover. The Jets DBs had a miserable time against the Colts' starters while they were in the game, and the Colts don't have anywhere near the talent that the Chargers do at that position.

the patriots are out. i blame the whore with the initials GB. and that's all i have to say about that.
Uhhhm, this whore you're talking about? Did she break Brady's ribs, finger and Welker's knee? Did she get Randy Moss drunk the night before?

Agreed. I don't see how it's her fault at all (it's not her fault). The problem is that the Patriots had their entire defense either retire or traded them away, leaving them with a lot of young players. I think that the Patriots had a tremendous season considering that they managed to win the AFC East and make the postseason while in a rebuilding year. That's rather impressive, actually.
I don't think the Pats will return to their dominance of the last decade, as the Jets and Dolphins now can actually stand up to them a bit and steal a win with more frequency than they did during the middle part of the 2000s, but the fact that they were able to win the division in a rebuilding year is a phenomenal coaching job on the part of Belichick.

Some sports pundits are speculating online today that Tom Brady's contract expires in 2010 and that he could be heading out of town (I believe that would be season after next, not this upcoming season).
Might he head to Denver for a few years before retiring and reunite with Josh McDaniels? I'm just sayin'...

All good dynasties and things eventually come to an end... I too don't see Gizelle Bundchen being a distraction to Brady (a la Jessica Simpson to Tony Romo) which explains why that Pats are in decline.. Bruschi and Harrison retired, Vrabel goes to the Chiefs, Richard Seymour traded to the Raiders (biggest WTF move Belliflop ever made! ) and of course losing Wes Welker certainly didn't help matters one bit.. but still give credit to the Ravens for playing New England hard..
Actually, it was a great trade. The Pats get a # 1 in 2011 for a 30 year old DE who's contract expired at the end of 2009-so he's a free agent now and could rejoin the Pats next year and the Raiders will still have to cough up that pick-brilliant investment! That pick will most likely be a top 5-10 so no new franchise QB for Oakland.

Ahh the NFL news continues:
KC Chiefs: Not only is Charlie Weis the new offensive coordinator, but they just apparently signed Romeo Crennel to be defensive coordinator.
Seattle Seahawks: I'm very curious to see how Pete Carrol will do as their new head coach but I do feel Jim Mora deserved better and got hosed being fired after only one season!
Denver Broncos: Well Rick Dennison, our offensive line and assistant coach has agreed to rejoin Gary Kubiak in Houston, so our first big coaching vacancy is here...I'm expecting very soon WR Brandon Marshall and TE Tony Scheffler are gonna be cut or traded.. hmm Mike Shanahan could use both of them in Washington..
UPDATE: Oh man I just saw that Bobby Turner, our Running Backs coach, who coached Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, ect.., is leaving as well..to join Mike Shanahan in D.C.!! Guess every coach wants to get as far away from Josh McDaniels as possible!!!

What's the word back there, Dove? Is McD a d***head to work for and everyone is voting with their feet? I was back in CO for the holiday season but didn't really hear anything to that effect. Seems like no one is talking at this point which I suppose is the professional way to handle it.
All of our playmakers are hitting the road. Who's next? Champ? At this rate San Diego will rule the roost for the very long term.

personally, i think the jets will win their contest. they have thomas jones and one of the best rushing offenses in the league.
That's true, but their defense does not match-up well against the Chargers offense. The Jets DBs are on the smaller side, and the Chargers receivers are either 6'5" (Jackson & Floyd) or 6'4" (Gates), which is going to create some massive matchup problems for the Jets. Also, if they blitz Phillip Rivers too much, which they probably will to try to make up for the mismatches in the secondary, Rivers will gain huge chunks of yards by just dumping the ball off to Sproles or Tomlinson on screen passes. The Chargers are going to score plenty of points in this game (24+), and for the Jets to win, they're going to have to match that, which they're just not capable of doing.
