New car for 007
Fans of the James Bond films will be staggered to learn from The Sun that the producers have ditched his luxurious Aston Martin super car in favour of - a Fiat Panda. The tiny hatchback will feature in the next 007 movie, Casino Royale.

And here's how the UK tabloids take something like this and spin it into a giant untruth. Are they malicious, or just incredibly lazy? And they're get paid for their "reporting." Incredible.

Fiat Claims Panda To Be Bond's Car in 'Casino Royale'
"It will be a fully armed miniature fortress, as indestructable as the other Bond cars."

Casino Royale has always been a modern adaptation since day one. That scuppers the idea of CR being set in the past, then.

Hey, this is weird. Reading THIS article it sounds like the Panda will be Bond's main car in CR. Not sure what to make of this now.
James Bond switches to Fiat Panda
Secret agent's new car is a snail compared to predecessors (ANSA) - Rome, August 2 - James Bond, the world's most famous secret agent, is to abandon the sleek, fast sports cars of the past for a plucky Fiat Panda with a top speed of just 90 mph .
The Turin automaker has confirmed the startling news that in his next film, Casino Royale, the legendary seducer and undercover agent will be driving one of its budget utility vehicles. By taking the wheel of one of Fiat's bottom-of-the-range models, the original 007 will be breaking a tradition of flashy, high-performance autos that goes back to the Aston Martin DB5 in 1964's Goldfinger .
Since then there have been Lotus Esprits, BMWs and more Aston Martins, which 007 has always driven as fast as they would go, usually with a beautiful woman in the passenger seat .
In the last Bond film, Die Another Day, Bond actor Pierce Brosnan drove an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish which could go from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds and had a top speed of 200 mph .
The Fiat Panda to be driven by the new James Bond - the actor to replace Brosnan has not yet been named - takes 20 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph and its top speed is not even half that of the Aston Martin .
But according to sources close to the production company, it will be a fully armed miniature fortress, as indestructable as the other Bond cars. Details of the special gadgets have not yet been decided .
Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell, is expected to appear on cinema screens next year. In it, 007 must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning a baccarat game worth millions .
It remains unclear whether the switch to a modest city car might indicate that Bond is about to become a careful, responsible motorist .
However it seems unlikely, given his past record. "Do you destroy every car you drive?" Bond was asked mockingly by his love interest in 1995's Golden Eye .
"It's routine procedure, dear," he answered .
They seem sure that in the plot that 007 must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning a baccarat game worth millions. How do they know for SURE that this specific aspect will end up in the filmed version. As we know what ends up in the films can be very unpredictable. Any inside access or just an assumption?

Come to think of it, I would rather see Bond in a practical car instead of some tricked out Aston-Martin. I can imagine the Q/R scene right now (Bond getting all of his gadgets, then asking R for his car, expecting an Aston-Martin, and sees this tiny little little car.
Bond: "You MUST be joking..."
R: "Consider this payback for all of the cars that are resting in pieces because of you. Now despite how it looks, this practical car has all of the usual refinements...blah, blah, blah."
I think that scene would be hilarious to watch. It's about time Bond is given a practical car.
Agree, that would be funny and if that's how they do it, great. I however hope the vehicle's appearence is brief, like the car in GoldenEye was.

The thing is we don't know how closely they will go by the book--they can change who he poses as easily.
I disagree. We do know they at least say they are following the book closely. And we do know that he will be playing a high stakes game with Le Chiffre. So Bond would have to be posing as someone with substantial money in order to even to be allowed to sit down in the game. Someone who arrives at the Casino in a Fiat Panda would not be.

You may be right BUT I don't trust they are closely following the book until I see it.

Strange nobody's commented on this yet. I thought the whole reboot or back to earth movement was supposed to be designed to get away from the fully-armed stuff.
Way down on my list of things I'd like to see in CR is yet another fully-loaded, gadget-filled car. I like some staples in my Bond films -- the gunbarrel, title sequence, visits with the Mi6 staff, Q sequence, martini shaken not stirred, etc. But how many variations of the car do we need?

I'm pretty much with Turn on this one. It'd be cool to see Bond driving a stylish car, but I don't fancy the "gadget-laden" thing.

Imo it's nearly obvious, why this car is confirmed:
As a young agent Bond does not have any money for an Astin Martin. So he drives a Fiat before he gets into the 00 section.
There he gets his Aston Martin ...
The change will also be a chance for a Q scene, featuring John Cleese.

Don't you guys see what's missing?
If Judi Dench and John Cleese reprise their parts it's a continuation serie and not "back to basics". It would be again odd if Bond was set in a new universe.
New M and New Q meet Young Bond?
Bizarre.

Bond could appear in it but thats about it.
Not even a fresh faced young Bond would be seen dead owning one of these as a first car on his 17th Birthday.
