Coincidence or something else?

The possibilities here is that Pierce wanted one for the family and bought one so marketing minds goes overdrive and announces that it would be in the new movie.
Seems too much of a coincidence.
Another possibility is that Pierce's publicity people got wind of the Panda being in the movie and decided that their man should have the Panda to 'up' his image for many reasons I could think of.

Recently, Alessandra Bacchetta of Bloomberg News reported
that 1) a Fiat Panda would appear in Casino Royale and that 2)
Pierce Brosnan " was so enthusiastic about the car that he
immediately bought one,' this according to Lapo Elkann, Head
of Brand Promotion for Fiat in an interview in Gazzetta
dello Sport and confirmed by Bloomberg. When you read the story,
please also take note of the Brosnan "hasn't been officially
signed for the movie." part.

Isn't this rather strange behavior for a guy who's repeatedly
announced his resignation from Bondhood? Okay, Maybe Brosnan
never heard of the Panda before, sees it, loves it and buys one.
And this same vehicle just happens to be promoted in the
new Bond film. Of course, and folks go to Bond films because
they are gadget freaks.
Or...just maybe: Pierce and Eon Productions have quietly
agreed, ( or are close to ) agreeing on the number of oughts,
and the actor is benifiting all concerned by promoting the
Panda. Dang, I wish it could have been a Fiat Dino spider.
Or a Lotus Elise.
Putting my own cards down, I believe that Brosnan definately
has one more 007 film in him. Save for Adrian Paul, I can't
see anyone else in the role.
And if Brosnan is still Bond, all this other stuff ( e.g. Final
Four Bonds Selected ) is just PR special affects.

I doubt it means anything close that Brosnan is Bond.
I personally can't wait for the Is He/Isn't He rumours to end on Brosnan, but who knows who long those will go on for.

Being an ex Fiat Panda owner, I can confirm that this car is definitely intimate and very cheep to run, but if were 'zooped' up by "Q", we could expect anything.

Will Casino Royale go back to the fun we had with Roger?.
Cheers,
Ian

"Fiat has confirmed that it has supplied two black Panda 4x4s to the producers of Casino Royale, the 21st film in the James Bond series due for release next year."
If you wanted to know the color and type anyway. I don't think it's been mentioned.

Seems like they would go through two of those after about an hour of filming.

Only two? They had dozens of Vantages for Die Another Day! Either Bond's car plays a very minor role in this film or - and I suspect this is the case - the Fiat Panda isn't Bond's car and simply appears in a "cameo" role.ITV Motoring reports:

Perhaps Soup agreed to have a car advert in this Bond film as well like done with the Z3 in GoldenEye. Have Q say some gobbly-gook about armour and more stinger missiles behind the headlamps. And then have Bond drive it for a half a scene and then we see how shiny it is (despite the dirt road) in the background while Bond and Yank agent du jour talk about some plot info that could be easily scrapped from the script without notice.
Yes, I get it now.

Thanks K1Bond007. We did report from the start it would be the 4x4 model (an article in Forbes confirmed this), but it's nice to know the color.ITV Motoring reports:

How can Bond fans possibly be unmoved by breaking news such as this?

And it will probably turn out to be the biggest non-story when the Panda ends up doing a single drive by in the finished film...blink and you miss it.A sad commentary, indeed, that the biggest CR news of the last week is the legendary Fiat Panda.
Still, it generates a five-page thread. Image the thread when Bond #6 is announced. It's going to be wild.

If there is any truth to the rumor that CR is all about young James Bond's first assignment, I find it very hard to believe MI6 will hand him the keys of the Aston Martin... he's got to earn that one! I therefore wouldn't be surprised if the Fiat Panda is indeed going to be Bond's ride in this film.
Yes that is logical.
Bond is 24 years old. He's a pen pusher in MI6, up to his neck in student loans and women, including Vesper Lynd who he works with.
He drives an old classic car that breaks down too often. He dreams of the highlife of the Double O Sector.
On a vacation with Vesper Lynd in her Fiat Panda in the south of France he recognises La Chiffre and tails him.
When Vesper is killed by Le Chiffre's men, Bond seeks to avenge her death and uncovers connections to international drugs trading and terrorism.
Bond is drawn in before help arrives and destroys Le Chiffre and his network.
On his return to London, Bond meets M for the first time and is promoted to the double O sector. His first official assignment as 007 awaits him in Bond 22.

Very good point. Yes it seems too much of a coincidence that Brosnan also bought a Panda. Welcome to CBN.

Hi! I coincidentally saw that you quoted me for my story on James Bond driving a Panda in the next movie..
I just wasn't sure whether it was appropriate to post a message in the page where everyone reads, so just thought to send a private message to you. to explain a few things.
So.. first of all, I couldn't put the most interesting part of the Lapo Elkann interview in the story..(because at Bloomberg they just cut all the best parts off to make room for the most important facts at times!! ahaha) which is this.
in the interview, Lapo was asked, when he said that Brosnan was so enthusiast about the car that he bought one, if then Brosnan was in the movie to play Bond. to which he said "well of course, as far as I know yes." SO at that point YES, PIERCE WAS 007.
The point is this: WHEN Lapo met with Brosnan (note.. Lapo is not just a whatever member of Fiat.. he's one of the Agnellis.. the Agnelli family which owns Fiat) Pierce was evidently in the movie. AND HE SHOWED HIM THE PANDA AND HE BOUGHT ONE. (this I know from Lapo directly). now.. THIS doesn't mean that Brosnan is NOW on the movie (I've read reports that he was fired, whether true or not, because there really is a lot of confusion and just gossip instead of news on this.). He was definitely going to be Bond at the time (presumably pre-production??) but I don't know what happened in the meantime. (I wrote this because I am a sports reporter and this was news widely reported on sports newspapers here because Italians consider cars a serious sport! . As for cinema, I am an ENTHUSIAST of movies but I am not in charge for entertainment/film industry stories at Bloomberg, so I read what my colleagues write and know nothing more than that!)
When I wrote the story the interview had JUST taken place, and Lapo had just announced the Panda deal (WHICH BY THE WAY WAS AND IS ABSOLUTELY CONFIRMED.. THE PANDA IS GOING TO BE THE BOND CAR)so it is actually quite recent.
Don't know what is going to happen at this point.. but I can tell you that I absolutely LOVE Pierce playing 007. and that there's only ONE young actor who could play Bond in my opinion, and that's Hugh Jackman (watch him in "someone like you" with Ashley Judd to have an idea how Bond would be played by him.. he's just the perfect mix between Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan). Of the "older" ones, there is OF COURSE only magnificent GEORGE (Clooney) who could do it, but I highly doubt they would choose him, because as you know they always want an actor from the U.K. (or former colonies) to play Bond. Which is why the choice for me is Hugh Jackman.
just do NOT make me see Colin Firth or worst of the worst Jude Law play Bond. they just don't have the guts to do it.
Anyway... I just wanted to give you all the background info which wasn't in my story. Hope I made some sense!
best,
Alessandra Bacchetta
