I'm a Chorno Crusade and Gundam Seed fan too Icarus! But if you loved Seed, then you're doing to find Gundam Seed Destiny even better. Whose your favorite character there?

Haro. :cooltongue: Nah, seriously, there are quite a few characters I like in SEED, particularly Lacus. And of the Gundams themselves, the Freedom rocks the house.

So, today I have been mostly buying Mobile Suit Gundam SEED volume eight and volume one of Get Backers.

BORAT. A reasonable haul of deleted scenes and bonus material that will be every bit as funny as the main feature for Borat fans (who'll probably consider - I know I did - that just the sight of Azamat [is there a case for saying he steals the movie?] as David Hasselhoff in a spoof of the BAYWATCH opening credits makes this DVD worth buying for its extras), but a menu that's bizarrely difficult to navigate, and one gets the feeling that other good stuff is being held back for a special edition, which will hopefully boast Baron Cohen commentating in character as the crazy Kazakh (a mindmeltingly inspired blend of influences like Clouseau, Austin Powers, Manuel, Michael Moore and possibly even William Brown), a la the commentary by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer on the THIS IS SPINAL TAP SE that renders that film even more hilarious. Also, it would be nice to see the Jonathan Ross interview on a future release.

Still, this is far from a bare-bones affair and won't leave you feeling shortchanged. I liiiike!

I'm trying not to buy anything for the next week, cuz I need to save my cash for my Casino Royale rampage that will take place on the 13th. I just decided that I would buy all the special goodie offers from the stores. It's Bond, I can do it! So that is why I haven't boughten a DVD in a long time. I used to buy them at least every week.

Rambo III - 2 Disc SE (curious to see if original director Russell Mulcahy gets a mention at all) :cooltongue:

Didn't know about this, so I looked it up. Nice artwork. Very odd that the words "A Film by Peter Macdonald" (never a remotely famous director, even at the time, and he seems to have vanished into even greater obscurity since RAMBO III, his one big mainstream hit) are featured prominently on the cover! Does this have something to do with the also-surprising fact that he gives a commentary?

Seems an Australia-only release. Have the other Rambos been given the SE treatment, or is it just III?

They've all been given that treatment, but Rambo I and II are single disc affairs.

RIII

As to Mulcahy's involvement in RIII, I'm pretty sure some of his vision ended up in the finished product. For example, the flying arrows with the light sticks attached to them in the cavern screams Mulcahy.

Well, I take it back about Macdonald. Looks like all the directors have that prominent "A Film by...." credit on the covers. Which still seems bizarre, of course.

Looking up Mulcahy, who I gather left RAMBO III just prior to the start of shooting due to not getting on with Stallone, I was amazed to find he's Australian. For some reason, I always thought he was Scottish. You learn something new every day. :cooltongue:

The Rambos have only ever had one DVD version in the UK, with a few miserable so-called special features and no commentaries. These single-disc releases were repackaged a while back in a box set with pretty decent artwork, but they're the same discs as before.

That said, I bought this box set and it seemed to me that the Thai warehouse stick fight at the start of RAMBO III was suddenly longer and more violent. In a film that, at the time of its release, was notoriously hacked about by the British Board of Film Classification, this scene had always struck me as choppy and incoherent from heavy(handed) censorship. So it may be that the UK now has unannounced uncut versions of these movies, although I'm unable to check them against my old copies 'coz I sold 'em.

Rambo III had all of it's BBFC cuts restored in the early 2000s, aside from a couple of seconds cut due to cruelty to horses:

I think the stick fight was cut in half on the old video.

HIGHLANDER only had one Scotman involved in it, Loom.

These Rambo editions have been around for a while now, but it's only until now that I've completed buying the trio.
