However, as fun as it is to think this is related to Bond, as a Nip/Tuck fan I can report single sponsor buy outs are not unusual for this show;it was the most watched show on American cable by the prized demographic (19-49 age group). XM satellite radio sponsored the premiere last year, I think. Sure enough, Sony has a new product coming out to challenge the iPod, called the Bean. Thats what I am guessing they are promoting on the Nip/Tuck premiere, but who knows?

I am glad to see some folks are getting past the Home and Away/Mr Dannii Minogue concerns and seeing McMahon for the fine, mature actor he is in 2005 ( the breakout performer on a critically acclaimed, well acted, well written and directed show). As a big Pierce fan, I can tell you they are very different, although can both wear a tux equally well. The Sony news is fun and intriguing (and don't know if the TPTB would let him continue but the filming schedule for N/T will not interfere with Bond)I would love for him to be Bond, and frankly seems like some of the other choices are dropping out (even huge JM fan that I am, admit to warming to Clive).

Who knows? You could be right. We'll find out September 20.

I'll update myself here--I checked the story again chiclit and the specific advertiser for Nip/Tuck on September 20 is "Sony Pictures". Hmmmmm......seems it won't be an ipod BUT most likely something movie related being advertised.

Where's the source for this advertising thing again? Anybody have an actual link...
I don't know how to create a link BUT it's from Imdb on August 22 under, I believe, Studio Briefings. You can google this by using Nip/Tuck season 3 and adding Sony and will get the story. If you know how to create a link perhaps you can add it here.

Sony To Be Sole Sponsor of 'Nip/Tuck' Season Opener
The 90-minute season premiere of FX network's hit series Nip/Tuck will have a single sponsor -- Sony Pictures -- and commercial content will be limited to just 11 minutes, TV Week reported today (Monday). The trade publication estimated that Sony probably paid FX more than $1.8 million for the package, which also includes a custom opening and close, vignettes and thank-you messages in addition to the spots, which will air on the Sept. 20 telecast. ...

Why would they announce a Bond through a TV commercial? Since when do they do that?
Why would they need to buy all the advertising? Are they going to run the same 30-second "McMahon is Bond" spot 22 times?
Who the heck runs TV commercial spots for a movie that isn't going to be out for at least a year (if we're lucky)?
Isn't it a lot more likely that they wish to advertise films coming out sooner, as is normal for movie commercials? (Sony has three films coming out in the two weeks after that episode: Oliver Twist, Sep. 23; Capote and Into the Blue, Sep. 30.) Or perhaps they're advertising MP3 players... cameras... videogames... or any of the literally hundreds of other things Sony has going?
Amazingly farfetched, IMO.

Not sure I buy this theory though. 11 minutes is a ton of time for an announcement that "hey McMahon is Bond dudes.." and only on FX? If you're gonna put up the dough for a special announcement like that, why Nip/Tuck? Because McMahon is on the show? Why not a bigger audience than FX? Why not Desperate Housewives or something. I'm serious. It was the #1 show last year and I'm sure if you're announcing a Bond on a special advertisment deal you'd want to hit up a sizable market. And why September 2005? Seems rather early. Maybe not for the announcement of Bond (which is going to gain national/international attention the moment it's decided - it markets itself), but to start generating buzz about Casino Royale - September 2006 would work just as much, if not better.
Still, I'm sure it's possible, but I don't think it makes that much sense. Sony is a huge corporation. It could be for any number of gadgets, video games, music, films, television shows, or Z: All of the above.

Actually I agree with you that it's possible but that it could be many other things and probably is.

Sometimes F/X runs shows in their entirety with maybe one or commercial interruption. They did it with Nip/Tuck's season finale last year. Maybe Sony will have the intro and they will say something like "This F/X show is presented without commercial interruption by Sony Pictures" or "by Sony Pictures new film (Fill in the blank)." Then they will have a commercial at the end or something.

Another possible thought here about the September 20 Nip/Tuck premiere and the Sony connection:
Sometimes F/X runs shows in their entirety with maybe one or commercial interruption. They did it with Nip/Tuck's season finale last year. Maybe Sony will have the intro and they will say something like "This F/X show is presented without commercial interruption by Sony Pictures" or "by Sony Pictures new film (Fill in the blank)." Then they will have a commercial at the end or something.
that is the likely answer.

I am not Bond expert, or Public Relations expert, but this "picking the new Bond" thing just doesn't seem too well handled, no matter who ends up with the tux.

I didn't for a moment think that an announcement would be made during Nip/Tuck BUT it did occur to me that perhaps when Sony committed all that money to the sponsorship they knew something that we didn't - that when people tuned in to the premiere of Nip/Tuck (a highly anticipated event in any case) they would also know that they were seeing the next James Bond. That would certainly add a bit of bang to the advertising buck.
If I could also just ask a slightly technical question, is it possible to change the colour sceme on the board from the black background?

Onlooker, that's perfectly possible BUT it could be something else and we won't know until it happens, and until then I will continue to point out that nothing is certain in this life and that none of us know anything at this point and that any suggestion anyone has about anything at all could be right BUT then again it could also be wrong until I'm blue in the face.
Seannery wasn't online, so I thought I'd do the honours.
