So I guess this is a full-on origin story reboot, a la THE SUM OF ALL FEARS.

But if it's okay for IFP to give us "Young Bond", why shouldn't Eon do likewise?

View Post

Because neither is ok! This is the most awful news I've heard so far. I simply refuse to believe it.

It's just plain wrong!

I really don't see them making a film staring "two" Bond's though (the younger & the older). "John Doe AND John Smith ARE James Bond" ... :) That's almost Casino Royale the Comedy. Even though they're shaking up the series by looking for a younger Bond I doubt they'd ruin the dynamic of  one Bond -- in chronological younger to older scenes or in flashback scenes.

View Post

I think they might well be planning to do it, Athena. It's taking Martin Campbell's "young man who matures into the hardened agent" comment rather literally, agreed - but I think Campbell's quite capable of being that literal himself.

View Post

It's funny because when I hear that line: "young man who matures into the hardened agent" ...I don't get the 2 Bond thing from it. I get that they're looking for a young[er] actor who can pull off convincing the world that he will someday be that hardened agent... later on (aka: not in this film). But ya, I can see where you're taking the quote. :)

No way will they rip off INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE. They'd have more class than that. Wouldn't they?

View Post

Probably not but hey...if you're going to rip someone off you might as well rip off someone good. :)

Something horrible has just occurred to me.

Zencat, none of your sources mentioned a twentysomething unknown being auditioned who seemed to have a very high forehead, dandruff and a prominent nose, did they?

Maybe the younger actor is for an opening sequence showing us how James Bond got his licence to kill? In Casino Royale, we are told about how he got his licence so maybe the film will follow that idea. I sure hope this is the case.

Well, I've already pegged Tom Davey. Total unknown. Don't think he's even been in a film. No idea how old he is, or what he sounds like - just found him while looking at British theatre school websites for an earlier thread, and thought he looked the part.

And yes, I'm well aware how that sounds. The things one finds oneself doing while waiting for the new Bond actor to be announced.

Could it be that this has been deliberately leaked because Babs knows Pierce reads the internet boards, and that it's designed to convince him that they're planning to replace him with a 14-year-old, thereby stoking up his anger and bringing his salary negotiations down a peg? After all, Dame Judi *did* say that Pierce would be back for another, and she would know.

As long as they don't forget the humour and sense of fun that films like THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN brought to the series, I'll be happy. They really lost that at AVTAK, I think. So as long as they keep that, but at the same time go really dark and gritty and stay true to Fleming, I'm fine.

For five points, who do I sound like?

I doubt there are any actors of the 20-30 age that look remotely the part. It goes back to the old saying:

If there were an ideal candidate he would be high on the list. He's not. No-one has mentioned these unknowns so it's all a bit of a joke. Sorry to be Mr Doom and Gloom but surely someone out there would have mentioned this ideal handsome, charming 20-30 year old 'born for the role' actor by now?

No-one has. There are no born for the role young actors for Bond. Sorry for the mild rant but this search for Bond saga is getting increasingly silly. And besides, name a 22-30 year old unknown that Sony is going to risk with the Bond franchise? None. Precisely. As I say, the saga is a bit of a joke and drags on and on. The fact we're going to have a 70 year old Dench as M makes the young Bond idea even more absurd.

Mild rant over. Normal pleasant posting by me will now be resumed. :)

Actually, it's Radcliffe, with an "e".  And I once saw Culkin's younger brother Kierin do a stunning Hamlet in this little dive in Brighton.  Knocked my shorts off.  And he'd be a really brave choice for CR, now that I think about it.  So he's not really appropriate fodder, eh?

Two points, who am I?

View Post

Correction. Radcliff from this minute has changed his name because he thought that the "e" at the end of his surname would be associated to much with his Harry Poter role.

Jim, I'm guessing. An astonishing likeness.

Do we have any idea what 'unknown' means? Are we talking up-and-coming British actors, or people straight out of drama school, I wonder. In the former category, I can think of a few who could do it. Hugh Dancy would be a pretty safe bet: looks like a young Hugh Jackman. 27, I think, bit younger in that photo.

* warning: mild rant starting *

Thing is... what and where is this "List"? Are we talking about the monstrous rumors that are all over the internet and in the "news"? That's not a list. That's all PR people. The only thing that's been out there in the "tabloid media" that even has any smidgen of truth to it is that Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon did have a meeting with some influential Bond #6 choosers. That is IT. I'm sick of all that stupid rumors out there. They're not true, period.

And Judy Dench would not know who's going to be cast. She's not on that panel.

These unknowns' (small time actors') names are not out there because they're not meant to be out there yet. As loose as the trust system seems to be in [Hollywood] movie making there is some kind of "security".

Why is Eon casting a septuagenarian Dench as M and then thinking about a very young Bond?

This makes no sense and it seems Eon hasn't a clue what its doing. I'm not against a younger Bond - could make a refreshing change - but at least give him a younger M and make the continuity fit. Argh! Oh what the hell - no point getting miffed as we can't change things. Go with the flow, go with the flow...

By the way, this guy is the only person off-hand I think could fit the younger Bond mould:

Matthew Marsden

http://images.absolu..._matthew_08.jpg

No offence to the guy, but he's not actually a big star so would seem ideal for EON. He's not a bad actor - competent enough.

Something else that they have to consider: Bond has to actually be of LEGAL AGE TO ENTER A CASINO!
