My favortite thing about a new Bond story on AICN...
Talkerbackers!
Love this stuff.
There's something about reading those posts that reminds me of Blofeld's pirannah pool in "You Only Live Twice".
Bon appetite!

Here are the photos that made me think McMahon could pull off Bond:

NO! He looks like a slick salesman. Sales rep as James Bond? I think not.

You've convinced me. McMahon is perfect for the role of Napoleon Solo if there's ever a "Man From U.N.C.L.E." movie.
As for Bond---------------> HUGH JACKMAN (Everyone else is a pretender)

I still think Owen is a better choice, or Jackman.

I used to be opposed to McMahon getting the role, but I caught an episode of Nip/Tuck, and I have to say that I was fairly impressed with him and could definitely see him potentially being Bond. I think that my opposition to him at first was out of ignorance because, up until tonight, I'd never seen the guy act before. While he definitely would not be my first choice for the role, I think that I can now say that I wouldn't be opposed to him getting the part, though.
I'm glad someone else is starting to see his potential.

I think McMahon looks smug and oily, and the kind of man who pays too much attention to his appearance - not Bondian traits. He also looks like the result of an experiment to cross Matt LeBlanc with Kevin Spacey. Finally, he seems (and I admit I've based all this on photos - never seen him act) the kind of actor who should specıalıse in villains/unsympathetic characters - maybe not Blofeld-style world-dominating megalomaniacs, but more down-to-earth and small-time roles, guys who are too full of themselves and end up getting some kind of comeuppance (think Hart Bochner in DIE HARD or Bill Paxton in TRUE LIES).

Well there can't be any shutting down now then, he's definitely had his name up there or close by for a long time.i tipped mcmahon for bond over three years ago on ajb007 and was politely savaged haha...he is i feel an excellent candidate and one of the few genuinely good looking contenders with a nice line in sadism judging by his niptuck role

I agree, Loomis. I actually really like Nip/Tuck, but it's a show about the most depraved, narcissistic people imaginable. McMahon's performances are quite well done, and he actually engenders some sympathy for a character who does some truly unredeemable things.
But there a many Bond #6 candidates I'd choose before McMahon.

Sounds like a description of Pierce Brosnan to me...
JM is by far not perfect for the role, but after seeing him in action in Nip/Tuck week after week I find him to be a decent fit and a more likely candidate than most of the others mentioned.

I'm with Loomis here and this is with watching Nip/Tuck a number of times to see what the fuss is. Loomis is dead on with McMahon being smug and oily and along with bland and plastic much like a soap star. Yuck! He would not be a good Bond at all. And I also caught him on some TV interview shows and again it showed him on the smug oily weaselly side--so it's not just his role on Nip/Tuck. He has a bland rather blank flat presence and voice--not a Bondian vibe at all. In a word--NO!!

I'm not keen enough on the guy to launch any defence.

If there's one movie this summer that has my excitement meter redlining... it's certainly NOT Fantastic Four. Everything that's come down the pike for that film has looked rather ridiculous, and to add insult to injury one of my favorite Aussie actors (Julian McMahon) is reportedly TERRIBLE as Doctor Doom.
, so much for 007.

Some, but by no means all.
At the moment (judging purely by what the rumour mill is churning out) it seems the most likely candidates are Craig and McMahon. Personally I think McMahon is more likely. Of course, this changes week by week as new rumours hit us.
But frankly, and I never thought I'd say this, I'm still waiting for a tall, dark and handsome stranger to come and sweep me away. None of the stallions on display so far have blown me away.
