TV JULIAN: I'M IN LINE TO BE 007 Feb 25 2005

By Anthony Harwood

STAR of TV's Nip/Tuck, Julian McMahon, yesterday revealed he is on a shortlist of two to become the next James Bond.

The 36-year-old Australian, who plays serial womaniser Dr Christian Troy in the show, said: "I'm a big James Bond fan.

"I met the producers for a final audition. They told me to expect a decision in a couple of months and they said it was between me and one other person.

"It's going to be a very nervous wait."

The other person in the frame is believed to be British actor Clive Owen.

McMahon, who used to be married to Dannii Minogue, was first linked to the role last year.

If he gets it, he will be the second Australian to take the role of 007, who has also been played by English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish actors.

Meanwhile, Bond director Martin Campbell said of new movie Casino Royale "it will be a grittier, tougher and more realistic movie".

It was originally a 1960s spoof with David Niven.

Bond Shortlist Is Revealed

Clive Owen and Daniel Craig are fighting it out to become the sixth James Bond, insiders say.Executives for the next movie will choose either Owen or Craig to succeed Pierce Brosnan.Brosnan, 51, will not appear in the next film, Casino Royale, after he failed to agree terms.

Owen, 40, and Craig, 37, are said to have beaten off competition from early contenders such as Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.

Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell were also in the running, before Owen and Craig captured the imaginations of the 007 producers.

A Bond source told The Sun: "They're both good looking and charming, but also have that dangerous edge.

"We feel they are the real deal. The million-dollar question is which one will get it.

"There have been lots of potential candidates but these two really fit the bill."

Meanwhile Nip/Tuck hunk Julian McMahon claimed he was also on the shortlist.

The 26-year-old Australian, who plays serial womaniser Dr Christian Troy in the TV show said: "I met the producers for a final audition. They told me to expect a decision in a couple of months and they said it was between me and one other person.

"It's going to be a very nervous wait."

It now seems these two useless producers who are going insane, have found cheaper replacements. . .

The Sun article is clearly garbage. Just a trawl through all the press speculation of the last few years without anything to back it up. Is the Mirror story the same as the rumour that went round a few months ago?

Ahhhhh...this is Daniel Craig:

I think he's a brilliant actor, simply based on his performance in 'The Road To Perdition', but I'm not so sure he's Bond material.

I really hope it's not Julian McMahon. He makes a decent TV movie villain, but there's no way he's right for Bond IMO. Too oily.

Julian McMahon is fantastic- and very Bond-like- on Nip/Tuck. There's certainly worse choices.

I think he could do it. Here's a still from Perdition - looks like a back-to-Fleming Casino Royale to me,

No thanks to McMahon- no man who plucks his eyebrows should play James Bond.

And yes, I have seen 'Marnie'.

McMahon proves in "Nip/Tuck" that he can be charming, unpredictable and mean. But this rumor is so old - and an actor who really is in the final round of casting would never admit that to a newspaper. EON would kill him off right there. And if he doesn

I haven't liked McMahon since he was Cole on "Charmed." Apparently though he is set to return as that character on the show which I think is a shame (for the show that is).

Sure it's just a filler fluff piece. (the article)

These stories come from the Sun and the Mirror I believe and my UK friends indicate not the most trustworthy sources. And why in hades would Mcmahon give an interview months before the final decision saying he was in the final two? Wouldn't that totally PO Eon and ruin his chances? Remember a few years ago when Gerald Butler said he was lined up to be the next Bond and of course that never happened because it was either false or he alienated Eon.

Interesting. I wonder if him being Dr. Doom in any Fantastic Four sequels will cause issues? If there are any FF sequels of course.

:) :)

This is truly sad news indeed. This is the same guy who had a part in the aussie soap "Home & away" and was truly an awful actor. I can only hope & pray that EON have purposly gone this route so it doesn't seem blatantly obvious that the other guy (or, indeed anyone else) might have the job already.

What on earth are you thinking EON? please don't hire this guy, he'll be your worst Bond yet!

Daniel Craig?? I swear he's American. He put an very strong American accent in Tomb Raider, I certainley don't see any Bond qualities present in Craig, the news is def'n false.

There's a usefull old English expression that I'm going to use here to describe this latest bit of news: "What a load of bollocks!!" :) I'd take this with a huge grain of salt. Since The Sun, and The Mirror are both tabloids, we know how reliable those can be. I only used to read The Sun for the page 3 girl! :) I might be more convinced if this story starts popping up on more major and reliable news sources.

For McMahon to be Bond his contract for Nip/Tuck must be up for renewal or the show is getting cancelled. Isn't the show quite popular though.

Right you are. The show is quite popular and filming on the third season should begin anytime now for a summer return. His schedule likely won't allow him to play Bond due to his commitments here, and if the current Broccolis are anything like Cubby, they won't allow a guy on a TV series to be Bond anyway.

I like the guy. He displays a lot of Bond characteristics on Nip/Tuck. He'd be much more convincing than Orlando Bloom, Jude Law, Ewan McGregor or Dominic West.

DLibraSnow, his appearance on Charmed is just set to be either a cameo or a one-episode appearance. He isn't rejoining the cast due to the success of Nip/Tuck.

Strange nobody has mentioned this Daniel Craig before. Welcome to the party, I guess. Besides, he can't necessarily be worse than some of the other things we've heard.

Unfortunately, that show has yet to hit my airwaves, but I did manage to catch a quick glimps of an ep while in Sydney recently. All I got to see though was his offsider "enjoying himself agressively" with a blowup doll. :)

I am all for Julian McMahon. I ve seen the two seasons fo his shows Nip/tuck, and i love this guy. he has the style for me to be bond.
But i read recently that the shows has been re-signed for 2 more seasons. so i don't think he will be available for bond.

In a desperate attempt to be in the next James Bond movie, here is an exclusive picture of Julian auditioning as the next Bond Girl.

Julian [aka/Pussy GoodGod]: Oh James. James! Make love to me. Handle my cubes like a monkey handles coconuts. Come to your Prancy Fancy Bear!

James Bond [off screen]: Not for God or country.

This may sound a little mean, but maybe if Julian had more hair over his gigantic forehead... :)

Sorry. I can't get past his stint on "Charmed," even though I've seen Nip & Tuck once. And it was an episode I was embarrassed to watch. :)

You know, the problem with Julian McMahon in any of his roles, it that he simply seems like Kerr Smith Sr.

Here's a pic of Kerr Smith from Dawson's Creek and Final Destination:

Posted Image

They generally look quite alike, especially the high forehead. Julian McMahon looks like what Kerr Smith will evolve into when he's older.
