It's a hard choice, but I personally like LTK better than TLD. Darker atmosphere, realistic villain, and of course superior acting from Dalton. Right now, I think of the look on his face when he's sitting playing cards at the Casino, like he's about to fly off the hook.

While I hardly consider either movie great, I'd have to say I think The Living Daylights is the better of the two. Licence To Kill had some good elements, but they were all in the 007 character & not the movie itself. I mean, come on, Bond goes after a druglord? Yay. I just think Leiter wasn't "avenge-worthy" (for lack of a better term) enough. At least Living Daylights had a broader landscape and wasn't bogged down by Tailsa Soto's awful acting (although Gen Koskov was pretty damned annoying.)
Carey Lowell was bad too.
Benicio was terrific !

Licence To Kill by whisker. A great film: dark, gritty, and it stars a Bond who actually bleeds like an ordinary man. I love both of Dalton's Bond films, and he is my favourite Bond, tied in first place with Daniel Craig.
Oh, and by the way, the name's Craig... Dalton_Craig. I'm new here. Mind if I join you?

Welcome aboard Dalton_Craig. I like how you give Dalton top billing over Craig in your screen name(see my sig).

I like your top five choices
I'm never sure which one of Dalton's I prefer - LTK or TLD, but I tend to pick TLD by a whisker as it seems more Bond like to me.

I enjoyed the plot of LTK as well as the casting of Davi as Sanchez. Casting Hedison as Leiter was inspired. I really enjoyed the thought of Dalton as 007, going off-mission and doing the "Yojimbo" bit.
That being said, I enjoyed the cold war aspect of TLD, the globetrotting aspect of the film (LTK only showcases Key West and Mexico) and quite frankly one of the most effective revelations of a new Bond. As I said before when you see first see Dalton's Bond at the moment of that 00's death, you knew things were going to be different!

TLD is also one off my alltime favourites but LTK for me has the edge cause it dares
to push the Bond character further, giving him a personal vendetta and showing the darker side of 007.
The truck chase in the end is also one of the best staged stunt work (at that time at least).
Furthermore, although noone beats John Barry, Michael Kamen's score gives the Bond music a much needed freshness and originality.
And finally, I'm not sure who my favourite villain is but Sanchez always comes to mind as on of Bond's most realistic and threatening opponents.

TLD was a great film as well but I just didn't like the cello case chase, it out of character for Dalton's Bond. I'm not too sure if I liked the gadget laden Aston Martin either. I hope we've seen the last of those cars.

just registered and this is my first post.
I used to think The Living Daylights was a far superior film to Licence To Kill but over time, the latter has grown on me so that now I think the reverse! Daylights is stilla great film but I think the grittier feel to LTK gives it the edge.

I also gotta say LTK has the best gunbarrel music; a darkly sinister variation on what we usually expect and so perfect for the film.

It is one of the nice variations of the more common theme.
