However, I think Dalton gives a rather better performance in TLD, but this doesn't stop LTK being my preferred film.
Incidentally, I believe (going by one of the special features on the LTK SE - it's probably on the UE, too) that John Glen considers LTK the best thing he's ever done.

I like them both equally, for different reasons, but as they are both so different, I wouldn't watch both in the same mood, if you see what I mean. I'd usually watch them on different days, as they fill different Bond viewing needs, and what I need would be different from one day to the next.
Ditto. It's not a simple choice since they are intended as very different movies.
I prefer Dalton in TLD and I prefer it as a more traditional Bond film.
But LTK probably fits together more nicely and suits Dalton very well.
Right now I fancy a bit of LTK... where is my DVD collection when I need it?!?!?!

Oh c'mon, that was Tim's homage to Sir Rog.LICENCE TO KILL - although both are among my favourites in the entire sequence. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS always loses points with me for the cello chase
Strange post to make my 1000th.

However, nobody's written as good a story as Fleming, IMO, and The Living Daylights backs me up on that. Even after the short story is over, the rest of the film plays out extremely well, with the exception of poor old Joe Don.

I prefer this more because I like the way the story goes in this film. I like the way how they have SMERSH in this film, the pre-title sequence felt more exciting to me, and I prefer this over LTK by a longshot. But don't get me wrong here. I thought LTK was alright. It's just that the South American drug lord concept didn't get to me since we've seen alot of drug lords like that before.
And did anyone notice? The bridge scene in Mission: Impossible 3 resembles the bridge scene in LTK.

This holds a special place for me in my heart and always will as it was the first James Bond film I saw about 11 years ago when I was 10 at my Gran and Grandads. Thanks to my Grandad for getting me into 007!
It was the most exciting, pure thrilling and epic action adventure I could ask for with this secret agent played perfectly by Dalton who, I think, no matter what I say or feel with other Bond movie actors, will secretly be my favourite James Bond actor as he was the first one I saw and stuck the image of 007 in my head.
LTK all the way, with TLD a close second with the amazing action sequences.
..don't you think the Dalton movies have some of the best set peices in the whole series, and he only did two movies? I mean look at the whole of LTK (especially the tanker chase climax) and with TLD you have the exciting Afghan airbase climax! Pure Bond!

Well I have to say the gritty and deadly Licence To Kill.

Glad to hear praise from another Dalton fan! Warms my heart. There must be more of us out there than we think.

Up there with Goldeneye and Spy as Bond films I could watch forever and hold a special place in my heart. This film is just a series of great moments.
LTK's "Dirty Love" fight sequence is the most unintentionally hilarious thing ever to me. Dalton's face when he evades the swordfish is legendary.

Since I just recently watched this two, though, I have to comment that both of these films feature two of the worst title songs and title sequences in the franchise. A small detail, but still.

A very Down to Earth Cold War Spy thriller just when the Bond series needed it. And I've always liked Daltons humorous moments in it. It had the hardness when it was needed but it had the tongue-in-cheek and the romantic elements too when they were required. I think they just should have got rid of Whitaker and made Koskov who had betrayed Bond the main villain.
Besides that, TLD was the first one I saw on the big screen, so there'll always be a special place for that

The story flows so well, and the actors other than Dalton (Davi, Zerbe, etc) are fantastic. Bond acts like a real person in LTK - If I were in the same position I'd do the same thing.
Dalton just stikes a chord with me - I love his portrayal of Bond. Connery was great, Lazenby was good (if limited in range), Moore was charming, Brosnan was a good combination of Connery, Moore, and Dalton, but, to me, Dalton is the real deal. His voice, his mannerisms, his speech pattern - EVERYTHING about Dalton worked for me.
I just wish he had gotten to do just one more Bond movie...
But at least we've got the two GREAT Bond movies that he was able to do.
Not to mention a GREAT performance in The Rocketeer (he STOLE that movie)!

Given that, I still prefer LTK. I like films with the main theme on revenge, so naturally LTK is chosen. Dalton always had a dark side as shown in TLD - and it is great to see himself give into his darkness.
The film has a real realistic tone and a superb villain. Both films are of a high standard with excellent plots.
