Notice how the spoofs have to rely on the characters name for a title?

Austin Powers
Johnny English

Can they not come up with something original?

How about I, Spy? Or...oh, I can't be bothered.

Its got a very good soundtrack, though. Much better than DAD with a very exciting main theme by Edward Shemur and Howard Goodall (he of Blackadder and Red Dwarf)

I've still not got around to seeing this film, but it strikes me as "love it or hate it" thing.

I picked to go and see Anger Management over it yesterday, so i guess it'll have to wait for another day before i check it out.

I just saw the end of a TV commercial for Johnny English. All I know about it is that its a spoof of James Bond. Is it any good?

I saw it in Oz when I was over. It's worth catching, Righty, however, it's a tad predictable, which is VERY disappointing considering it's written by Purvis & Wade, it's nothing to shout about, though it does have it's moments of hilarity (muscle relaxant scene, par exemple).

It's worth catching for the soundtrack alone, though. There's a wonderful Bond-esque theme by Edward Shearmur that'll have you humming along!

So this is why it's taking so long for a "street copy" to hit the market stalls here in Jakarta. :)

Staff Members,

I sent this news to [email protected], is it worthy of being put up on the front page?

'Fraid not, Righty, most people are well aware of Johnny English's release, i think we did an article way back when it was in production though. Might be wrong.

Thanks anyway though! :)

I saw this movie a few months ago. Worth seeing, quite a few funny moments, but i've pretty much forgotten about it now.

The TV Spots for the movie have been quite funny. They've seemed to make a quote from a review the tagline, "This Summer, Bean Meets Bond!"

Just saw it last night. An entertaining romp, might be the best way to say it. A summer popcorn movie. The score is great, though, and I will admit there were some laugh out loud moments. The general theatre crowd we saw it with loved it. Much laughter and even applause at the end which is something we rarely see happen in this part of the States.

I saw the first showing at the UA theater, opening day. The movie was hysterical. My favorite line of the movie is probobly: "The only thing the french should host... is an invasion."

I just saw it last night - it was very funny, and a very pleasant surprise. Edward Shearmur also did a fantastic job with the music.

I saw it on Monday with my little sister. It was good for what it is, a Mr. Bean-Rated PG-Bond Spoof. It was disturbing how they kept showing the Arch Bishop of Canterbury's ***. I didn't really like the sng in the beginning.

Got to see it last night. How disapointing and unfunny it was.

The only thing that got a snicker out of me at all was when the wrong hearse that English is chasing turns into the driveway. As it flashes past the camera you can see flowers on the side of the coffin arranged into a "DAD" sign.

Maybe unintentional, but that sums up the whole movie for me.

I saw Johnny English soon after it came out in the US and I absolutely loved it... if you've got some british humor in you, like 007, and love Rowan Atkinson... then I say... see the movie. I mean, it was perhaps predictable but still very enjoyable and clever. :) I liked it...

Though, I've never really cared at all for John Malkovich... I see him act and it's like... yup that's John Malkovich... I can never get into his character, he's just John Malkovich. Though of course in "Being John Malkovich" getting into his character was easy because well, he was playing himself. The other movie that I actually forgot for most of the film that he was John Malkovich was "Dangerous Liaisons" and "Les Mis

I just got the Johnny English soundtrack and LOVE it. Better than DAD, especially the first 5/6 tracks.

I doubt that! The Die Another Day soundtrack rules!

I saw a little of it and there isn't much to it. It's predictable and stupid, though it has a decent score (surprisingly). The actress playing the female agent (I forget her name) is really wooden and painful to watch, though.

Is it me, or does the guy who did the score for the film owe a lot of money to John Barry.

And in particular, doesn't it also strike you as funny that "A Man of Sophistication" sounds an awful lot like "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and that they decided to do a salsa version of the theme just as DAD had a latino version of the Bond theme in "Welcome to Cuba?"

It's what's called an 'homage' to Bond music of past. I wouldn't say it was overtly Barry-esque to the point of stealing his music. I think it's a brilliant twist on the now tired spoof-spy music genre.

I don't know about that...the more I hear "Theme from Johnny English" and "A Man of Sophistication," the more I think it is a touch too close.

Actually, I found the score to more borrow from David Arnold than John Barry, and as Dunphboy007 pointed out, it is rather more of a homage than a rip-off. All in all, it was an enjoyable score and I'm glad to own it - it was more than I expected for a spoof movie!

Strictly average. And the fact that it was written by the writers of Bond should have meant it was a step above other spoofs.

It was far too predictable and middle-of-the-road to be honest, Matt. Worth seeing all the same, has got a 'few' hilarious bits.

Yeah...er...sort of the point of a spoof, Xen. Bit like saying The Naked Gun rips off Dragnet.

Besides, I rather feel the English theme, whilst played in a very Bond-like style in the first track, stands on its own rather well. And the music actually manages to evoke some emotion in places, unlike the dirge Arnold was inspired to feed to us last time. Howard Goodall is quite a talented man, I feel; having come up with the themes for many British comedy greats over the years.
